Sure, but for this study they've been kind of useless.

1) none framed on the cutting - all framed on the whole hat.
2) The gallery does not allow you to view the image at very high resolution, only view it on the page
3) The gallery tries to block you from downloading the images to get a larger source image

The gallery is fine for web browsing, but it is not friendly to high resolution zooming

It will display up to 2560px wide depending on your display size.

Shot on a DSLR and not a phone.

Please point out the location of the Matterhorn in the Disneyland concept plan...

The idea of a mountain, and later making it the Matterhorn all came later

I love the story of the Matterhorn being planned for Disneyland:

Walt was traveling to Switzerland during the filming of Third Man on the Mountain. He saw a postcard with the Matterhorn on it, and sent it back to Vic Greene with "Vic. Build this. Walt" written on it. :p

I wonder if there's a chance of purchasing or just getting a piece of the Hat. I'm sure most of you would love to get a piece just so you could do something diabolical and obscene to it, but I'd actually love to have a square of the blue metal just as a nostalgic piece of history from my favorite Icon from my very first trip in 2002. If it's not going back up, having it my living room would be a decent replacement.

It's all about Marketing.
Sleeping Beauty's castle was built as a marketing scheme. There are many Disneyland documentaries that mention Walt needed to market his upcoming Feature length animation Sleeping Beauty. In the original plans the Matterhorn was to the focal point or icon of DL. The castle made it possible to make the cartoon seem real and ended up being the focus in crane camera shots at the opening of the park and took the focus off the matterhorn.
And 2 years before Sleeping Beauty was released the castle had/has again a walk through attraction to sell the story and movie. Yesterland has a nice article about the history of the walk through attraction.
The name Sleeping Beauty Castle was a very late decision that was not even all that firm in 1955.

I've been seeing posts that indicate that each piece is going into a scrap container and likely to a landfill after that. With that being said, maybe they'll cut up some of the lower parts for pins and such.

looks less like bolts, and more like rivets, no need for bolts(reason for using them is to be able to remove them). need a closer look to be sure though.

The blue is fiberglass.

Yes, I thought the same originally as well and the image is inconclusive... but given there looks to be a head and some pixels that look like nuts... I went with 'bolts' :) And in this context both represent far more work than this guy...

the latest high resolution shots confirm that. because the parts being cut, do not match the back bolts.
They bolts might have melted-merged due of rust.

If it took them over a year to plan this, it's obvious that demolition of the BAH is just the first part of the overall plan. Sounds like they may have a new icon up their sleeve.
Already have the plans. lol. Since people don't go back and look I'll post it again. Just say no to the Fedora. Of course there could always be a Charlie Chaplin Bowler hat coming soon. View media item 278

Finally people were posting some high res photos of the hat and not just cell phone photos... from this zoom in, you can see probably why they are cutting it down vs other dis-assembly methods.

Look at the panels - they appear to be bolted together.. with an insane # of bolts. The upper part of the hat appears to be purely a shell structure alone with the skin being all the support for the structure.

The white piping is likely the utility conduit for effects on the pieces.

No one wants to remove that many bolts if you don't have to... they're just ripping through it with saws and cutting pieces down in the chunks they can manage. We know the ring in the base is a big steel superstructure... it should look fun when they get further down.
And those bolts don't look like nylon or stainless steel...Looks like chopping it up was their only choice after all this time.

As to your original concept, my speculation is that if TCM wanted it down, I would go out on a limb and say they don't want something else in it's place either.
If that limb is sturdy enough to hold both of us, I will go out on it with you. It all hinges on whether or not it was their idea, and I think it was. They didn't want their investment covered over by that eyesore.

For all those that have argued that Disney has planned to remove it for years now, all I have to say is, that was the original intent when it was built. However, they were not moving along very fast on that project. How many years now? 14 or so! The may have talked about it but after they mentioned it they would all break out in uncontrollable laughter. It is my belief that it would stay there until the end of the world if it were left up to Disney to get rid of it. They needed a kick, and TCM gave it to them.

If there is a queue line or fastpass available for the chance to kick them myself, I would like to sign up for that on a number of things.
