Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

In the original plans the Matterhorn was to the focal point or icon of DL. The castle made it possible to make the cartoon seem real and ended up being the focus in crane camera shots at the opening of the park and took the focus off the matterhorn.

Uhhh.. no

1) The matternhorn wasn't a part of the original DL plans - It wasn't even a concept in Herb Ryman's famous concept piece for the park he drew WITH WALT. The Castle was always the largest piece in the center of the park.
2) The matternhorn wasn't under construction at park opening and didn't happen till years later

It was built simply because Walt wanted it built... that was enough.

Didn't say it was. The conceptual plan was for it to a focal point.

Please point out the location of the Matterhorn in the Disneyland concept plan...

The idea of a mountain, and later making it the Matterhorn all came later

The fedora hate is a relatively recent thing because they got adopted by hipsters.
I think that's mostly why the GF won't approve, in all honesty.
Wow, you people really don't let something mis said go. Already acknowledged in a later post. Thanks. Let's harp on something else now.
We had something going with the fedora and fez deal... Although I don't think of a hat when I read the word fez...

Finally people were posting some high res photos of the hat and not just cell phone photos... from this zoom in, you can see probably why they are cutting it down vs other dis-assembly methods.

Look at the panels - they appear to be bolted together.. with an insane # of bolts. The upper part of the hat appears to be purely a shell structure alone with the skin being all the support for the structure.

The white piping is likely the utility conduit for effects on the pieces.

No one wants to remove that many bolts if you don't have to... they're just ripping through it with saws and cutting pieces down in the chunks they can manage. We know the ring in the base is a big steel superstructure... it should look fun when they get further down.

Dunno. If so, it will show up on an accounting sheet somewhere.
Still, your comment was the first I had heard that someone else was footing the bill.

Requested it? Probably.
Paying for it? Doubt it.
I agree with that. I doubt that TCM paid for it to be removed anymore then Siemens paid to remove the hand. It was a requirement of the deal. If Disney wanted TCM to invest in GMR then the hat must go.

I do not know that for sure, any more then anyone can be sure that the did pay for it. Logically, though it was Disney looking for a sponsor. A sponsor replies with provisions and Disney agreed. It's all speculation and unprovable without access to the books. I doubt that any of us on here have that access. Ted Turner didn't get to where he is today by being an idiot.

Why hello Mr Chinese Theatre. How good of you to show your face in these psrts again. We missed you!

Nice observational skills @flynnibus . That there is a heck of a lot of bolts, and if they had decided to disassemble, I'm glad I wouldn't have been the poor guy undoing them all. Or putting them in for that matter! For a temporary structure it sure looked solid enough.

So happy! :):):):):):inlove::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull::joyfull:

They obviously didn't know what they were doing. The train is running counter clockwise. So they probably just forgot to put in the Matterhorn.

Sure, but for this study they've been kind of useless.

1) none framed on the cutting - all framed on the whole hat.
2) The gallery does not allow you to view the image at very high resolution, only view it on the page
3) The gallery tries to block you from downloading the images to get a larger source image

The gallery is fine for web browsing, but it is not friendly to high resolution zooming
