Ah yes...'Wand Watch 2007" was epic and glorious on so many levels.
I remember the day it was officially announced....such a cry of joy from so many.

As I look at my awesome nighttime Epcot shot that gets so many compliments, I shudder to think of how it would have looked pre 2007. You know why I have no such shot? Because I wouldn't have bothered to take it because of that ugly wand! Likewise the hat. The hat is nice, don't get me wrong. It in no way approaches the inappropriateness and ugliness of that wand. It would be great in a public square in Downtown Disney, or over an information booth at TTC, or over a tollbooth. It just overtook that very small hub of a very small park and dwarfed greater things that were there.

Do we know if they are actually tearing it apart and destroying it, or carefully removing it to be placed somewhere else?

I'd expect to see the walls expand and more demo happen starting Monday after marathon weekend

Dose it worry anyone that this seems like it's going slow? Grant it I know it's only day 2 but when they took the wand down I understand they moved slow as not to damage SSE. If they are just scraping the hat in theory could they not of just cut the gold stuff out in one night? I mean no worry of damage if it's trash right? That pic makes it seem they are taking it out in sections. Maby they are saving it?

One could think it's going slow, but then again, things are being done during the day while Guests are there and you don't want to totally ruin the magic.

I don't know. I'm not a BAH hater in and of itself. I just don't like it blocking the Chinese Theatre. Wouldn't mind seeing it moved. As was already pointed out, there is already a Sorcerer's Hat at the values.

It's in such a poor state of disrepair, and doesn't bring any financial benefit, yet would cost a fortune to relocate, so I think it's almost certain they'll just demolish it. If they did want to put one elsewhere, it would probably be cheaper to just build a new one.

I was about to argue with you as I remember them painting the other ear on top of the buildings but now it's completely gone. You have to go back to 1999 on Google Earth to see it.

Sunset had no effect on Mickey's ear. But, yes the ear would have to be repainted.

Well, Sunset had the effect after the paint was gone, yeah. My apologies....I should have clarified more. I mean, technically it could be repainted, but that would mean continuation and that's just foolishness.

All they have to do to settle down the disturbed hat people is show them the hidden Mickey

We don't know for sure that they are scrapping it, and when have we know Disney to do anything fast?

There is no financial benefit that we know of for taking it down either.

Not being designed for decades of use would be one. Sponsorship money from Turner Classic Movies would be another.
