When is the removal supposed to be completed? Any word on what's replacing it if anything?
We'll probably need to watch after all the big stuff is pulled out of there to see if they pour fresh concrete slabs to replace the ones damaged...if they just pave over I'd say we're good...I really think this TCM thing has LOT to do with all of this...they aren't going to screw up a sight line like this again...not in this big of way...they must already know all too well by this point how expensive putting something like this up is...and how much it costs to tear it down...and how much complaining the public will do. I'd hope they'd have learned their lesson this time.

This has been arguably the biggest theming screw-up ever...bigger than the castle cake, wand, and (the still lingering) monoliths...

Folks will probably wise up once they see that view as it was intended...hopefully...

For now I guess we watch to see if the tumor grows back!

It's not really surprising. It's been there for 14 years and for a lot of people it's the only way they have ever known the park. They have become very attached to it over that time. I have a friend on Facebook who just today was expressing her unhappiness with it being removed, but when I posted a picture of what it used to look like her reaction was , "Yeah, that does look better".

Amen.

The point of them was/is to remember guests who've died and the happy times they had at Disney when they were alive, so removing the photos but leaving the stones would be a bit of a PR disaster I think. Better to just move the whole things in one go.

If that's the case, I need to tell my buddy and his dad they are in fact deceased or zombies because they have their pic etched on that big ole block of rock and I spoke to one of them today.

its disgusting

Millions of people like that are why the resort has slipped so far
Look I know that its seems crazy to you guys that people care for the hat. But imagine if that was the only thing you knew! Look I used to be a hat supporter for a long long time but I changed. On the other hand some people just don't get it and its wrong to blame them for that. Disney should be blamed for letting the hat stay do long that people became attached to it. So please stop insulting people. The hat is gone so it doesn't matter if people get in line to say goodbye!! Its their choice. Maybe they will understand maybe they won't. It does not matter.

In some instances, you are correct. Certain academic matters, particularly hard sciences, immediately spring to mind. However, I think matters of aesthetic taste, particularly for an amusement park featuring a talking mouse, are far more subjective.
That goes further along with my point. Everybody is entitled to their own personal preferences and aesthetic tastes, but not all should be considered. In the case of canvas paintings and, generally, music, my opinion should not be considered authoritative (as any example).

And that's fair, but, by extension, people shouldn't be derided for having a particular aesthetic taste, generally speaking.

Agreed, but derided and ignored are not the same thing.

Which brings me back to my original point ; Robb Alvey at TPR is a self promoter and corporate kissa$$. He is a public figure in the theme parks enthusiast and promotion world (unfortunately), but he also endorses the awful thematic decisions the company had made in recent history (the masses love BAH, so BAH should stay instead of Chinese Theatre; Frozen should be at more outlets...).

He promotes a huge active user base, also misleading since he doesn't delete accounts, which worries me because less intelligent parks will actually cater to him and his foolish forum members.

That's why he and TPR should be ignored, and frankly, banned from media privileges.

Their opinions are detrimental when attempting to turn WDW into what it should be.

Yeah, we call them tombstones but they aren't, lol, I'm pretty sure it was handled like the bricks at MK except they took your picture. I mean, I'm sure some of them have passed, possibly, and sadly, but they aren't memorials for dead people.
