Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

I really don't understand the logic of using the retro logo on the official calendar unless they are indeed reviving it completely. If this was just for nostalgias sake it would probably less explicit. But again, they have to act on this and not just pay lip service to the diehards like they have done.

Although a lot of the 2013 merchandise uses the retro logo, most of it used the Sorcerer Hat as the icon for the Studios (though the Earful tower is on a few things)

Still it's nice to see the Earful Tower getting increased attention.

2013 used the Earful Tower as well.

I saw a bunch of stuff in the shops as well in January.

I know...that was a sarcastic response to another post I had made a few days back where everybody called me Misogynistic and used the word totally wrong every time.

That will be my new sign out on every post. Maybe it will coerce people to look it up, as you so kindly did for them this time.
The aforementioned thread seems to have disappeared altogether.

What this DOES tell me is that Disney still has not given DHS an identity. They're not consistent on the "icon" used for it in various forms of media.

I agree with this, and maybe this is the gran of truth about the whole rumor about not being able to use the chinese theater as the park icon...perhaps it was just about advertising materials (I'm going from memory, I THINK the chinese theater was used as the park icon at certain times as well).

Having said all of that, the issue with the Earful Tower is the location...it really isn't in the park at all, and can only be seen well on the tram tour.

Of course, Disney is having even more issues with making a central icon for DCA.

The Chinese Theater never was the icon of MGM, It was the wienie, but the icon on merchandise was the earful tower.

That shirt is intentionally retro though it even has the old Walt Disney World signage and logo (unless that was brought back?)

Yeah the above isn't the best example but I had it saved. They definitely used the earful tower and retro logo on lots of non retro merch. It was interchangeable in 2013 with the usual icons and logo.

Either way, my point is that this isn't a signal of change... At least not yet. They've done it before. It's just good ol merchandising like in Spaceballs. Lol

I do think the Studios could do with some clever rethinking of the back areas. But I fear the current proposals will only aggravate the matter, instead of solving it. Adding IP property lands adds nothing but another layer of mess, only increases the park's problem as 'the dumping ground'.
Also, much as I love Star Wars, I'd hate for SW to take over the American Idol / Echo Lake area. This is part of the front lot for me, so very pretty. All this area needs is a fun attraction in the AI building, not an overhaul into an IP land.

I'm glad you said this. I have the same feelings about changes to the park. While new attractions are desperately needed, I feel the essence of the park may be lost in the shuffle.

I take it that you have not been to DHS prior to Sorcerers Hat installation. DHS has lost it's way over the years. It really had the feel of walking into a land of the movies.

BTW, Welcome to the boards. :D
No, I didn't lol and if I did I wasn't mealy old enough to remember, but I have seen pictures before it and it truly looks beautiful to me either way, that was just my take on it.

And thanks for welcoming me!:)

When the park first opened the Chinese Theatre was what you saw as you entered the studios. It may not have been called an Icon - but in reality it was. The earful tower was only seen on the very extensive back-stage tour. You walked back into the 1930's and 40's.

Nostalgia was the total feeling. What you see now when you enter is a horible stage in front of the 'HAT' which blots out the Chinese Theatre.

That crappy makeshift stage is even worse than the hat, okay fine leave the hat there if they must but that stage is cheap and ugly. The entertaiment on that stage isnt worthy either. The place has really become shabby, compared to what use to be so nice.
