Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

Sans spires, this is how the theatre should look like after a refresh

Why stop the copper from turning green? The copper roof needs to be allowed to turn green to be more accurate. I've heard horse urine helps copper turn green faster. Maybe they could splash some on there.

It's supposed to look like its the 1920's/30's. Since none of us were alive then, I can only assume the copper was not green on the theater's opening night in 1927

This thread will stay open until every last trace of the hat has been removed, and the view is the same as it was before it was added. But please try to keep the topic on the theater and the area surrounding it - not the rest of DHS, and certainly not discussions about attractions in other parks, and WDW areas.

I wonder if folks are going to get all nitpicky on defining "the view is the same as it was before it was added", as the awnings are long gone too. :)

My understanding is that it was green back then. I suspect they coated it with something to speed up the greening process.

All the photos and colorized postcards I've seen from that era show the theatre with a green roof.

Also notice that the "Chinese" signs have also been removed in DHS. Makes the place rather barren.

Looking at old photos of the theater in MGM, it never had any awnings or the "Chinese" sign.

Yup the art banners are the equivalent I think. I imagine (despite them looking tacky) that Disney didn't have the 'CHINESE' letters was because officially the DHS version of the building is not called the Chinese Theatre but just 'The Great Movie Ride'.

Maybe he was meaning the original Chinese theater in LA which seemingly has had and not had a center awning at different times:

And half those posts are people complaining that they want the thread locked or the title changed... I've no idea why it's so important to people, but there you go.

I was simply asking a question and making a suggestion. It was on a good roll during the BAH deconstruction then screeched to a halt. The only thing left having to do with the BAH is cleaning up the site and removing the wall. So, okay, continue the thread, then, through that. After which, closing the thread puts a definitive stamp on the BAH's demise.

Then start another thread watching the Chinese Theatre being restored in all its glory, including the spires.

I tried to make a new one based on just refreshing its area but got yelled at by others and a quote with a link back to this one....

Let's say hypothecetically that the roof needs to be replaced, there is nothing wrong with replacing it with new copper. Obviously, it will be gold for a short period of time. Then weathering will turn it green. Here's the new Florida Capital Dome as it was restored last year.

And how it looks when it weathers over time:

Consider this... It was never copper to begin with but just a painted facade to look like copper. They didn't do everything exact you know. I don't know but the patina on the current roof tells me that it isn't copper at all and never was. This would be good because it will give us a whole new topic to talk about how awful Disney has become (even though that happened back during the time everyone now considers the golden time), or how Walt is spinning in his grave or how maintenance has let down and not made the copper naturally oxidize properly.

Well, okay. Can't disagree with that.

I suspect your'e right about the roof not being real copper, as it appears to have gotten less green over the years. The exact opposite of what should happen.
