Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

I guess you've never seen the pin series....
Did they make pins out of pieces of old attractions or just pins about closed attractions? We all know that they'll squeeze every dime they can out of nostalgia for old attractions, I'm still angry over their "30th anniversary of Horizons" shirts. I was not aware though if they took physical parts of old torn down attractions and made pins out of them.

Where it could ruin World Showcase sight lines, but then it'd be that area's representation of Mickey Mouse.

There are many things that ruin the view, right now that looks like a convenient excuse.

Example of "ruined view": The Dolphin/Swan hotel is visible from worldshowcase, the tower of terror too.
these two buildings have nothing to do nor thematically similar to the world showcase.

You might want to take a closer look at the Hollywood Tower from World Showcase. The Hollywood Tower features Moorish architecture and lines up with the Morocco Pavilion, creating a larger and cohesive image for the Pavilion. It is that view that would be disturbed by the Hat being placed as an entrance to the Hollywood Bowl Amphitheater.

Indeed. The backside of ToT was designed specifically to look appropriate behind Morocco. Obviously can't say the same for Swolphin.

They had pins with pieces of the wand in them

I didn't even notice this until my last trip, which might be the point. It's a nice little touch when you see it.

Disney should incinerate 'beloved' old items like this they tear down and incorporate them into the bursts for a fireworks celebration. If they can do it with people, they can do it with a BAH. Granted, given the magnitude of the hat, the fireworks display would be one of the longest Disney has ever put on.

Yes they have... they are called the 'Piece of History' series. Pieces of attractions from 20k, Spectromagic, and many more. They've done bits from refurbs as well as retired attractions.

Some of the first series - http://gallery.pinpics.com/cgi-bin/group.cgi?group=4812
Welp. I'll be the first to admit I stand corrected.

On a side note, looks like they could make a metric ton of these again if they wanted to:

And in the past... Disney has sold larger elements from attractions in many forms. They've sold scraps to people directly (The notorious MSEP lightbulbs, pieces of the wand, etc), they've auctioned pieces of attractions, they've sold them off at special events, and they've sold them through channels like MouseSurplus, etc.

They've not been shy about selling nostalgia - it's just not always sitting right there in the Main Street emporium. Most of this stuff you have to be in the community to know its even coming...

They do - the latest in this series was pins containing a bit of scrap from Spectromagic

I'm good with either the Earful Tower or the Theater being the Park's symbol, but, my big problem is that DHS is a shell of its former role as an actual working Studio/Theme Park. I'm really not sure what the hell it's supposed to be right now, so once they announce its massive overahaul, then who knows what it's icon should be.

It's moot. The hat is all but gone.

Well, the problem is being addressed. I agree the overhaul should take precedence. It's the park itself and the experience that are more important than the icon. For the foreseeable future, we'll see ToT, Earful Tower, and the Chinese Theatre used interchangably.
