Of course, with BAH going away, just imagine the size of the stage they can build for events such as Star Wars Weekend. (Or at least use the same size stage with room for more people)

I'm waiting for some clueless person to tweet that they like the new castle Disney has built to replace the hat.
The theater was never meant to be an "in your face" memorial structure. As has been stated over and over, it was not ever considered the park Icon. It's presence and it's location at the end of Hollywood Blvd. was there to create the Hollywood of old atmosphere and thus the atmosphere of the park itself. So, no it probably didn't stick in your mind at that age because it blended in so well with the theme. You did notice the big blue hat though didn't you. That is exactly what all of us "anti" hat folks are trying to get across. That hat was in your face and took away the balance of the park. It was never meant to be there when the park was designed and if sane minds had been in charge at the time, it never would have been there. Then I guarantee that as you matured you would have noticed the theater, you just would not have been overwhelmed by it. However, you would have known that it belonged.Funny thing is, I visited MGM a lot as a child (before BAH), then again as a Teen when it became DHS and then again as an Adult over the last 15 years years. All I remember is that HAT because as a child I simply don't remember that theater facade being all that memorable. But the HAT certainly was a Weenie I could remember and sure enough I always associated it with MGM/DHS. So seeing the Chinese theater starting to surface from behind that hat as you look down Hollywood blvd. feels a little strange to me.
BTW I am in the camp that thinks, while the BAH certainly felt awkward in the location it was in. I still feel like a lot of the good memories of MGM/DHS growing up included seeing BAH in the distance as you approached and entered MGM/DHS and I am a little sorry to see it go. But I realize it has to go.
This here just proves that piece of junk has been up far too long. My first visit was in 1989 and I remember thinking of the Chinese Theatre as a great 'weenie' for the park. Honestly, I've visited far more times while the Hat was there then when it wasn't, but the original view is far more suitable. I can't wait till the thing is completely gone.Funny thing is, I visited MGM a lot as a child (before BAH), then again as a Teen when it became DHS and then again as an Adult over the last 15 years years. I never noticed just how big that BAH is until now
My apologies if this has been asked before, but are they still taking pictures of guests down Hollywood Boulevard while the hat is partially removed?
Yeah that's a generation gap for sure. My first visit was in 03 so we can agree to disagree. At least we can agree about the hat? (Maybe? I'm of the BAH generation and I really don't like it)I'm the opposite, probably because I grew up on the MSEP. Spectromagic music was always mind-numbing repetitive to me. The parade itself was't bad - the music, though...
A gardener at the All Star Movies resort told me they were going to be building a replica of future princess Moana's boat where the hat was. There will also be a Magic Band store in it.I apologize if this has been asked already but whose castle are they building to replace the hat? In the photos, I can see it peaking out but I have not heard any news about this yet. Thanks.
I think a raised platform would be fine, as long as the theater is the backdrop. If you think of Oscar red carpet sequences, where they build a low stage in front, that kind of thing would work OK and fit the old Hollywood theme, but a massive rock concert chunk of metal... not so much.
