Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

I asked on the Parks Blog the other day in the comments of their story about pins for the new year. The response (come on - all together now): I am not aware of any plans to do this.

I hope they don't create those pins with parts of the hat encapsulated. It was awful when we had those for the test track tires, and even worse the dog from PotC. It was like wearing piece of the dead body. Looked horrible too.

Of course... which means "yep we're gonna do that and will announce it later this year." LOL!

I just got to thinking... are photogs on the Blvd doing anything to hide the construction in the shots they take during this somehow? Different angle maybe? Photoshopping it somehow in post? I'd love to hear from anyone who is there this week and had their shot taken.

Clever angles:

That might be why they're carving out the section with the star on it.
Or, perhaps those bolts are rusted on, and it just didn't make sense to take the time to get them loose.

-- personally, I wanted a star too, until I realized the scale of it, and how grungy the hat looks overall. I can only imagine the mess it is up close. I want a miniature 2' version that sparkles when plugged in. ;)
I'd say there's probably a good chance you'll find some sort of remnant from the BAH for sale at places like Theme Park Connection next month. I could be wrong but they end up with some of the oddest things at times that I would've never thought someone would want to buy.

A bench? What's that ... TDO seems to dislike benches and shade

Why do you need to worry about benches and shade when your sitting in a wood trimmed leather high back executive chair in your air conditioned office?

They have been building a lot more low stone/concrete walls as of late for guests to be able to sit, but they are nearly all in the sun.

Hrm! Ok! I wonder if they'll unbolt them first and remove them or just cut them out as big sections that those are attached to. Interesting. Really expected to see the stars/moon removed before the blue came down so it was surprising to see.

You can see they are taking it down by the panels (the curved rectangles). My guess is the stuff with attachments they are just taking several panels off in one chunk.. or just taking that piece off right in front of them as they take hte panels down.

The panel construction is very clear to see in this photo posted on the last page

If the add-ons are superficial to the structure and don't pose any risk of becoming unstable, no need to go up and down to take them off first. Every lift takes time... so you try to optimize how many lifts and setups you have to make. They might even be able to remove the smaller ones while still attached to the panels...

What I think is interesting is just how little superstructure there is behind the panels that we can see. The panels themselves appear to be a significant part of the structure.. instead of just skin.

as they get down to the bottom with those larger stars and moon... those will come off first, but if we see it or not will depend on where they stop for the night :)

allright now i am convinced. thanks for the fiberglass facts, and the picture evidence is absolute. Fiberglas, and they are NOT cutting on seams, just where it is convenient(something that no one that cuts steel would do). the dust from the demo saws is clearly visable, so no torches on the 'glass, saws with diamond blades.

OK - so who else spent significant time staring at this photo and trying to guess what's coming down next?

Also - is it just the perspective or do the panels get significantly larger as you get to the bottom ring?

They do get bigger.. its geometry. As the cone goes up, the curve gets tighter (smaller radius) so you use smaller panels so each panel isn't as tightly curved on its own (easier to make).

Yes, you can clearly see they cut this section out between the gold pieces and did not go along the visible seams. Seams grossly highlighted with my fat fingers... and the cuts are off those seams and as you say the grey is likely the dust from the cuts.
