Does anyone know how the stars and moon are attached? It seems odd that they are cutting away sections without removing those pieces first so I'm assuming they are somewhat "permanently" attached?

I belive they are bolted on. They were put on after the hat was constructed.

No, it should have been placed in front of the park, outside the gates, the first time.

I assume they are bolted on, through the blue paneling. They're probably just taking off the easiest sections first, to make more progress.

It looks to me like they are just torching it apart. It doesn't look like any orderly disassembly that would allow for reassembly elsewhere.

Hrm! Ok! I wonder if they'll unbolt them first and remove them or just cut them out as big sections that those are attached to. Interesting. Really expected to see the stars/moon removed before the blue came down so it was surprising to see.

Agreed. At first when they took the top piece off I thought there was a chance it had further plans but now it appears to be cut into small bits instead.

No it is just 4 X 4 X 8 feet. Lifting anything with a crane is a large safety operation.

I asked on the Parks Blog the other day in the comments of their story about pins for the new year. The response (come on - all together now): I am not aware of any plans to do this.

That might be why they're carving out the section with the star on it.
Or, perhaps those bolts are rusted on, and it just didn't make sense to take the time to get them loose.
-- personally, I wanted a star too, until I realized the scale of it, and how grungy the hat looks overall. I can only imagine the mess it is up close. I want a miniature 2' version that sparkles when plugged in.

Of course... which means "yep we're gonna do that and will announce it later this year." LOL!I asked on the Parks Blog the other day when they had a story about pins for the new year. The response (come on - all together now): I am not aware of any plans to do this.
I just got to thinking... are photogs on the Blvd doing anything to hide the construction in the shots they take during this somehow? Different angle maybe? Photoshopping it somehow in post? I'd love to hear from anyone who is there this week and had their shot taken.
