Is the clock ticking on the Sorcerer Mickey Hat icon at the Studios? YES!

Think how long New Fantasyland took to build. WDW time is like inverse dog years - one year of their time is seven of ours, so by TDO's thinking the hat was only up for a couple of years, and thus was temporary!
In reality the BAH was supposed to be temporary but they discovered that an overwhelming majority of guests liked it so much they decided to keep it around until they could find a new huge icon for the plaza area in front of the TCM theater.

I'm glad I don't live in that reality! Icons are for computer desktops, not movie-themed theme parks!

It is funny because I remember hearing the hat was supposed to be "temporary" in the first place, but seeing how big it was, you kind of could tell they wouldn't have put up such a structure "temporarily". A decade and a half later, it's finally coming down!!

I think we need to be patient. It has been there for 14 years. Even if it takes a year to tear down (which it won't), at least it is in the process of being removed. We've waited 14 years for this! It's been less than a week. Can't expect much progress.

A year long celebration is well beyond build code definitions of temporary.

Google Maps says it still exists.

The Hat was specifically a temporary installation for 100 Years of Magic. It was intended to be in the park for that year only, with WDI/TDO knowing it could remain longer, based on how things go. But the original plan was it was an installation just for that marketing event.

It's scheduled to take around 3 weeks to come down, give or take.

Also keep in mind that while it was intended to be temporary it still had to meet hurricane construction codes hence the crazy amount of steel.

google maps is behind as the hat is behind walls, also don't they take photos of the place for this like every 5 months or something? If so then this picture isn't worth a thousand words.
Google maps purchases their maps from third party satellite map vendors (just like mapquest and bing do). As a result, the updates take time, and can vary even within a few miles. In addition, they have a process of "cleaning" the maps before they are posted to the server.

That would answer that, then the picture is sadly not a good determination of the deconstruction of the hat.

The imagery of WDW on GMaps was provided by DigitalGlobe. Current imagery was shot in January of last year.

Their satellites have a revisit time that ranges from a bit less than a day to around 2 days, iirc...depending on which sat. That doesn't mean it's actively capturing images during that entire cycle, by any means.

That being said, Google doesn't pay them for daily updates of their imagery, and as I noted, Google edits their maps as well (beyond what is already edited due to the operational licenses for the providing company) as well...lengthening the time before they hit the actual public service.

In any case, the images on Google Maps are far from "live", or even close to it, and that was the point. They are often months in arrears, sometimes more.

could be worse. In my city.. google maps hasnt updated the satellite images in 8 years..
So... according to google maps, I'm living in an empty lot right next to a dried up tree.
