Dead malls are awesome. To this day it still sickens me that they tore down the Winter Park Mall and along with it, it's 50's and 60's touches!

Just a little bit of exaggeration?

Let me ask you this… Would you rather put up with a couple years of construction walls? Or would you rather the studios continue to be a downward spiral?

The park is on life-support. Time to suck it up and fix it.

Oh, totally agree. What's frustrating is that 1) it was allowed to get to this point in conjunction with Epcot nearing the same state and 2) the clip at which they're closing things that may or may not need to be to facilitate the work being done.

BLT closing was a huge need in moving the park forward, one we've clamored for for years. Closing Idol, may or may not have been necessary other than cost savings. Closing Sparrow feels unfortunate given the small footprint it takes up if work isn't set to start right away. It was hokey, but it killed 20 minutes and ate people.

I honestly don't think anything else can close without something coming online without the park being unacceptable as a destination - especially LMA and Indy. Those EAT people and without them those people have no where to go. The fact GMR had 60+ waits both in August and October when we visited is telling as compared to every other visit since 2005 when it was 10-15 at most.

But yes, this is a necessary outcome to fix a major problem. Frankly, all of WDW is in this state. I have NEVER seen so many construction walls all over WDW at one time. We can complain a lot around here, but the reality is, WDW is putting more into the parks now than I can ever remember (outside of opening a new theme park entirely).

This is what annoys me. I'm all for new attractions and updates, the park sure needs them, but Backlot Tour closed over a month ago, and I'm yet to hear of a single crane or bulldozer moving in, or piece of earth dug.

Jaws closed at Universal and construction began the next week pretty much... here they're closing like crazy, and we keep hearing that the closures are because of amazing things coming, but there's no sign of construction so far, and no visible reason why they needed to close things at such short notice if they weren't ready to jump into action.

The only exception to this is the hat, which has had a reasonable advance notice period, and seems to be being taken down quite rapidly after construction walls go up, thankfully.

I'm curious how long it will take to move and inventory what few movie items they had left on the BLT Tour (though they turned the AFI building over very quickly), relocate the working spaces (costuming actually had a sizable production going back there, not sure when/where they're getting moved), etc. I'm hoping work is being done, but it's work that just doesn't show like the various cranes over at DAK for the new river show and Avatar.

They'll probably just take a bulldozer to the lot.

I hope they do something with Walt's plane though. I can't imagine it would be easy to move anymore. It's probably super fragile; that is, if it is the real one.

Is it the real one.

It was landed on World Drive next to the backlot and craned over the fence.

I thought it was. I bet it wouldn't be able to take off again though. It's been sat there a few years hasn't it?

It might still be able to taxi somewhere, couldn't it? If it can get back onto a main road, perhaps it could still roll to a new location.

Maybe the huge plaza in front of the Contemporary? Somewhere in the Magic Kingdom area of the resort seems appropriate, since that was the part Walt was most involved in. And anything to liven up that plaza.

Ever since the Hat was featured in ABC's Once Upon a Time; I was brought back to a childhood memory about the sheer size of the thing that it freaked me out. Thanks to the show, it once more freaks me out. I for one, am glad it is removed now
