Is the clock ticking on the Leave a Legacy monoliths at Epcot?

God, let's hope so.

Unfortunately, I don't think anything will be done until EPCOT gets a meaningful update. They are basically letting EPCOT rot until they get around to updating.

I do think the update will be meaningful once they roll out the plans.

Do you make it a point to relay that to the countless number of people that erect white crosses on the sides of roads or dedicate their vehicles to their dearly departed?

Let me start by saying I know you are talking about a very serious matter and I am not trying to be disrespectful, BUT saying "dearly departed" made me think of Haunted Mansion. We have two tiles from a looooong time ago (my parents in one and my brother and I in the other) and I would not mind if they put us in the Haunted Mansion queue. In fact, I'll do it myself! Give me a flat head and some super glue and I'll go pry us off and find a nice little spot in the actual Haunted Mansion cemetery.

That being said, I don't really mind the LaL structures (for lack of a better word) where they are now. I don't think it looks creepy, but then again I've never seen Epcot without them so what do I know. It wasn't that much to get a Legacy tile, so it's no skin off my bones if they get taken down. (See what I did there? Please put us in Haunted Mansion kthxbye)

I always find it amazing how WIDE EPCOT's entrance is and how it could easily never have any lines... but nope. They only keep 1/8th of it actually open. Shameful.
I totally agree. They always cram a lot of people into a handful of turnstiles when the entrance way is so huge. I could understand it they used all of the turnstiles and people complained about how the LaL hindered their path. Personally, I always have to maneuver around the photopass photographers and the giant planter in front.
On a different note, I am one of the few that likes the blocks, but I don't have a picture on any of them either. For the longest time, even when I was a young adult, I never knew that these were picture monuments. So the fact there are pictures (poor quality or not) there is a mute point for me. They always seemed tilted back towards Spaceship Earth like they were guiding you to the symbol of the park. I always considered them to be a part of Spaceship Earth. It would be a sad day for me if they were removed.

OK so I do agree that as far as the blank stones go they should be removed however the ones with the plates should stay its like magic kingdom's bricks my brother and I got one done our first trip to Disney in 2000 not only that but we know where it is and find it each time we go which is nearing 13 times and we love seeing it its not a graveyard its a memory sure Disney did say 20 years however that was if LAL was successful which it wasn't its still amazing to say that I have a picture engraved on a plate in EPCOT and I can show my kids when I have a family. I see where people are coming from wanting it to go however you have to look through the eyes of one of those people who got their face engraved on a plate and think of the memory and joy it brings them! I personally love seeing me way back when I was 4! AndAndf I can recognise it! I do also agree that the area is pretty bland and would look nice with a garden but it kinda is an interesting way to enter the Experimental Prototype City of Tomorrow you enter in the present (i.e. the main gate)look to thee the past (I.e. leave a legacy and the spaceship earth ride) only to find yourself in the future (I.e. future world). That being said Disney has said that they plan to "revitalise" future world after the final phase of Hollywood studios is complete so if they are planning to remove them it will probably be in a few years I also hope that they are moved or the picture are put somewhere because its literally being a part of WDW and I would love for that to be displayed somewhere at least instead of sitting backstage gathering dust like the Tapestry of Nations puppets
You do know that almost all of Future World is not actually set in the future right? You are not supposed to time travel when you are just walking through Future World, it's an expo of different topics and ideas presented in a way to inspire us to use them in ways to make a better tomorrow. READ YOUR THEME PARK HISTORY.

I'm way late to this conversation, so I'll just say this: My family and I never purchased a picture on the Leave a Legacy monuments, but I can understand people who did purchase them would want them to remain up the entire time the contract stated. However, I also understand and sympathize with those who think they are an eyesore. I'm truly curious, do people actually even look at them? Other than those who purchased a picture and go to look at it every time they visit. Do random people/families ever just wander up and down the "aisles" of the monuments and look at all of the pictures? Granted, that certainly introduces a creepiness factor, but it still makes me curious.

I wonder if one day in the far future, people will discover these monoliths (if they are gotten rid of) and somehow link them to aliens, in the eventual program "Ancient, but not as Ancient as the Original Ancient Aliens."

But for real, they are kind of ugly. Not much to be done though if they are under contract to be there for an amount of time. Though, you'd think they could add some stuff around there to liven it up a bit. It's always so depressing when the monorail takes you to the middle then comes back, drops you off in the middle of nowhere, so you can walk to Spaceship Earth then try to plan your route as nearly everything is far from one another.

I wonder.... are there any famous people on any of them? If so it might give me something to do on my next trip to EPCOT... sort of like visiting a Hollywood cemetery.

While they are at it, just rip out those personalized pavers in front of MK as well. No one likes to walk all over people and having to look at them ruins my day.

i wouldnt care if these where lining the sides of the bus loop or outer entry i don't have an issue with the tiles themselves its the fact there a focal point in a theme park and subsequently detracting from the primary focal point.

if your mothers face was in the way of millions of visitors to the magic kingdom i would want it gone asap. pavers are not a giant monolith blocking the entry and screw those people do the opinions and rights of a few trump the rights of the many? why cant they be off to the side or hell stamp them into pavers.

That's a great idea, turn the tombstones into pavers! Wouldn't take much to cut them in half.

Well hundreds of thousands of people each year maneuver around them. Maybe the issue is you.

because you cant doesn't mean you should. next gen was a huge success if you want to put it like that. i assure you i can navigate dead bodys just fine. but why should anyobe have to? furthermore it detracts from SSE as the grand entry.

I'm not sure which doom and gloomer you have been studying under but no one is buried there.
