Is Spain In Epcot's Future?

Hi.....I was shocked to see just how much room the world showcase had......I think new countries would be very important. I think any would be nice, and Spain is a major country :) I think Greece is especially important.....some Parthenon type building would be very cool, especially since Hercules and Meg could finally have a place in Disney as they're own.....though I do want it to pay homage to the country and not those characters. Also I LOVE the idea of Australia....but that may actually go to AK at some point, as Afrcia kinda did. I think to Asia in AK was originally meant as a kind of Indian type area. Egypt could be REALLY cool....if done right, but as said earlier, it shouldn't be like Morocco and should have a pyramid. Even having one pavillion that has smaller permanent areas I'd like, like the Millenium Village was. Also, technically, you could put a pavillion out on an island? But that's just an idea, and would effect Illuminations, which would be a negative.....but I also agree some should be done to existing pavillions.
Foir example, if you aren't going to have Rome be Italy, that makes Greece all the more important, it's even mentioned in SSE. I love how the studios has the Backlot of America, kinda showing a modern outlook on America, because honestly the America in EPCOT, and Liberty Square are very similar.......

Hope this wasn't too long.....:)

Corrus.... stop continually crushing our hopes.....

As an aside, no ones noticed it yet, have a look at the plot plan I posted. Along with Equitorial Africa, have a look what pavilion is where Norway was built. Hint - Begins with a D.

Well, I think it would look weird if you built a new pavilion between two countries and then still have empty spaces elsewhere. Imagine it, wouldn't it look weird if Morocco, Mystery Country, and then France were next to each other on one side, then have a gap between Germany and China and other countries? It wouldn't look balanced. Unless they use the same technique (whatever it is) that they used on Norway and China where they look farther apart.

Some areas wouldn't. Japan has a huge chunk of land next to it. Just stand on the second floor of the Mitsukoshi and peer over the railing... you'll see vacant space.

Isn't there an issue of funds with these countries, too? Doesn't the respective country have to fork over a large amount of money to sponsor a pavillion? Perhaps that is why you don't see an India pavillion, or a Russia pavillion, or an African nation, or a South American nation just yet.

If the CM was indeed overheard saying 1986 then I hope it was a slip of the tongue. Morocco opened in `84, Norway in `88. Nothing in `86. Assuming he did know what he was talking about.

I know it's not World SHowcase, but didn't Living Seas open in early 1986? Perhaps he got his years scrambled around. (Ah, for the good ol' days when they opened up enitre new pavilions every year or two....)

Yes, there must be funding, possibly governmental and corporate. I think that's why a lot of pavilion deals fell through in the 90s. That's also, as I understand it, why we never got the Germany or Italy rides - the sponsors pulled out before EPCOT opened.

For Spain, Moorish Andalucia would be the best representation - Seville or Granada.

THAT would be real nice! :sohappy:
Corrus said the dance was over...that there will never be a Spain in EPCOT...so I'm hoping there will be Spain in Epcot. :lookaroun :p

Indeed it did. January 15th 1986; 11 years to the day since Space Mountain and the CoP opened for trivia buffs. However, Life opened October 30th 1989, so this would have been the last empty plot new build in Futureworld.

Rob; don`t tease. The good ol` days indeed..... sniff....

My only dissappointment with Epcot is that its World Showcase is mostly Western/EU Showcase. It would be more interesting to me to use the remaining slots to showcase countries to cover all continents (except Antartica - BRRR!!!) such as South America which isn't represented at all to Africa, whose lone representative Morocco is on the Mediterranean. IMHO these additions would strengthen and enhance Epcot's larger message of a global community and our interconnectedness.

I'm thinking Brazil needs to be next! :sohappy: If you were an imagineer, which countries would you propose for the seven remaining slots?

It's a matter of funding. Countries with more bucks have a better chance of getting sponsors. Countries that could use the exposure don't have the money to fund a pavilion.

For those commenting on representing African and Australian exhibits...my understanding is that with them being represented in AK (well, not Australia yet), that they would not be present in World Showcase. As for South America, I don't know if there is a country willing to sponsor, or an architectural style/culture that is distinctive to represent.

Taking an approach from architectural combined with distinct cultural images...my votes to fill the six plots Marni has provided would be SE Asia/possibly Thailand, India, Russia, Greece, Turkey and Spain (with bubble countries of Denmark, Australia/New Zealand, Egypt, Poland/Baltic countries, Israel...)

I do have hope that this will be an area for attention in the coming years (along with doing something with WOL pavilion)

Ooooh and it could be like a big 7-11 with slurpy machines and everything...........

LOL, took me a second to get that one.

PS: Non-Floridians, many (50-60%) of the fuel/convenience stores in central Florida are owned and run by people that immigrated from India.

Honourable mention:

Czech Republic
