Is Spain In Epcot's Future?

I think the only place another country could go is where the Outpost is, between Germany and China. Anywhere else would crowd things. I have no idea how seven more countries could fit anywhere in World Showcase. The structures would have to be nearly touching, and all the trees and landscaping would have to go. I think the whole area would suffer if it becomes too crowded.

There are, indeed 5 available plots of land in World Showcase:
-Between Mexico and Norway.
-Where Outpost is.
-Germany/Italy.
-Japan/Morocco.
-Morocco/France.
Plus a sixth if they remove the World Showplace.

Part of the problem is that a number of backstage buildings have been built on some of these plots, most notably the Germany/Italy and Mexico/Norway plots, but there's at least temporary buildings on all of the open plots.

My vote on the most probable plots for future use would be the Outpost and the Morocco/France plot.

As for how the pavilions would look butted up against each other, have you ever noticed how close Norway and China are? The design of the pavilions and the transition between the two works so that you never really notice just how close they are. They're only separated by an access alleyway that can't be more than 30-40 feet wide.

There have been plans from as long back as shortly after the opening of Norway to bring in more pavilions. I remember specifically seeing some advertisements for an upcoming Israel pavilion that never opened and I think a Spain or Greece one two way back when. There's more space there for more pavilions than you realize.

I've been going to Epcot long enough to remember that Israel (and I think Spain) were designated on maps as coming soon and there were even signs where they were to be placed (Israel was between Morocco and France, Equatorial Africa where the Outpost is (scrapped supposedly with AK being greenlighted.

I think the time is right.

Count the empty plots as 6, maybe 7, since the Outpost plot (originally Equitorial Africas location) is infact 2 plots side by side.

If the CM was indeed overheard saying 1986 then I hope it was a slip of the tongue. Morocco opened in `84, Norway in `88. Nothing in `86. Assuming he did know what he was talking about. BTW; I`m not dissing your info, Empress

Spain.... here`s the sign - and also the WS plot situation. Smaller plots were intended additions to their respective pavilions.

Was everyone there at Epcot yesterday. Even I was there after 6 yesterday and got on TT and it broke with me on it:sohappy:. I always wanted to be on the ride when it broke.

Back to the subject it would be cool to see another country in Epcot. What better to do this when the park turns the big 25.

You know what, Marni, he may very well have said 1988. I was trying to be discreet and was "hiding" behind a holidays sign in front of Germany trying to appear nonchalent (and trying not to look too much like a lurking crazy person)!!

Spain would be a cool addition, but I think there could be better choices before that. As some of you said, Greece would be an awesome addition, and I dunno if anyone would agree on this, but I think Austrailia would be a neat addition.

Since the beginning of EPCOT, Disney had planned to build a Spain, Isreal, and Equatorial Africa.

Spain was going to have a design very similar to Mexico, with a boat ride going past a restaurant.

I'd love to see this addition. I'd love to see any addition. Spacing shouldn't be an issue as martin showed on that map... the land is very narrow at the front and wide at the back... there is plenty of space for a ride or something of that sort.

For Spain, Moorish Andalucia would be the best representation - Seville or Granada.

For Greece, either Classical Athens or the white of the Cyclades islands like Santorini. I think people in general would respond more to the Classical theming, especially considering that Italy focuses on Venice and not Rome.

For Russia, either Moscow or St. Petersburg. Personally, I'd rather see Czarist St. Pete's - it's a magnificent city, but I think in the artist renderings from a few years ago they went with Red Square, which is very impressive as well.

Hopefully they either do something proper for Africa, or remove the outpost abomination they have now. Spain or Greece would be fine by me. I'd LOVE to have a Khazakstan pavilion... just dont put them next to the Uzbeckis!!! :)

One thing everyone seems to agree on is that *something* needs to be done in WS- whether it involves updating or adding countries- and I couldn't agree more. WS has always been one of my absolute favorite parts of WDW, and I'm all for giving it some TLC that it needs. I've gotta believe that the imagineers recognize this too...as park enthusiats and frequent visitors have speculated to the degree and large amount that they have, so too am I sure the imagineers are speculating too, even if it's just over lunch at Le Cellier.

Now it's just a matter of "waiting in line" to see how far down the queue the WS updates/additions take place in respect with the other WDW park projects and drumming up the support to make it happen...This "sighting" is at least a good sign that there is potential talk among the powers that be, and hope for us all that it could be sooner rather than later. Cross your fingers, your kids' fingers, and your Pal Mickey's fingers (ok, arms will do)...

While we're hoping, I'm hoping too that we get to see the best of both worlds: give the current pavilions the updates they need to be more effective to modern guests and add that new pavilion we're all craving for. (And as nice as Spain might be, I too would rather see a pavilion from a less represented area of the globe; perhaps a country from South America, Russia, etc....the list could go on and on). Maybe I'm asking too much, but hey, it is the holidays...

"Now, bring me that horizon..."

I think India (ooooh, the food!) and Russia would be completely new and totally different cultures in the WS. I cannot believe that they considered the USSR as half the world showcase might have changed to USSR if they had kept invading countries. Puleezzz give me INJA! (how the brits say India in film: "He's on safari for the great Tiger in INJA") I will eat there all the time!

I'd love to see an Eastern European pavillion with either one country like Hungary or either a bunch of countries together like Poland, Czech republic, Hungary, etc.

I think Greece, India, Russia, an African nation like Kenya and a South American nation like Brazil or Argentina would be great too. Australia would be neat, but I think an Australian land at AK would be best. A Middle Eastern country would round out things well. Maybe Saudi Arabia.
