I really hope WaltMickey is right. I would love to see that tacky eyesore gone. Also to support his point, disassembly of the wand won’t take near the time it took to put it up. If it was an integrated part of the existing structure (like one of the support legs) the argument could be made that it would take as long or longer to remove. As it sits now it is almost like a completely independent structure that is loosely tied in to SE (like an aluminum sun room tacked on to an existing house).

it's not attached to Spaceship Earth, but that doesn't mean you can just knock it down hap-hazardly. I'm fairly confident that by a Disney timeframe (the same company that took over 3 years to build Mission Space and has given Everest a similar timeframe), it would take several months to bring the wand down. It's a ~230 ft. structure partially over Spaceship Earth and above a guest area. Disney is spending 2 months to put little gold spirals on Cinderella Castle and statues...I have never know Disney to do anything quickly. I'm not saying your sources are bad or anything, I'm just a tad bit incredulous.

True. Disney is not going to pack the base with C4 and blow it to the moon. But it will come down in much fewer pieces than it went up. Not to mention the time and care in disassembly is much less than assembly. I’ll agree with you Disney construction never seems to move at breakneck speed but I can’t see the disassembly and removal of the wand taking 3 months.

I'm not doubting anything in regards to the wand...

However, as others have said, I'll believe it when I see it. For all I know, WaltMickey is yanking 'mi chain. Plus, a week seems speedy even by non-Disney standards. I gotta lean towards Kyle's disbelief on that one.

it just seems to me that by Disney standards, a week is more reasonable for building...a drinking fountain. 2 weeks if it talks.

It would not take more than a week to take the wand down. Steel is pretty quick to take down. The rest of the "sitework" may take a bit longer, depending what they do to the area. I'm still wondering if the wand is not on the foundation for the tower crane used to build SE. If so, I'm impressed. I hate, hate, hate the "Epcot" wand (Like the 2k wand), but that's a pretty nifty reuse.

I like how they did that angle to film the host infront of spaceship earth. I may try that next time I go to Epcot.

I have to agree too, "I'll believe it when I see it". I am not trying to discredit anyone's sources, but I sure will be happily surprised if the wand can come down this May. Otherwise I do hope it finally and permanently comes down for EPCOT Center's 25th in 2007. Oh well, maybe Disney will give us some "magic" with taking the wand down this year.

All these recent promotions of Epcot with a wandless spaceship earth not only using old stock footage, but working around the wand and filming the wandless side of the sphere, makes me wonder if this thing will be coming very soon.

Here's hoping for a May 2005 deconstruction. :sohappy:

While i havent agreed with some of the posters in this thread in the past, I'm backing them up not. There's no way in the world Disney would get that wand down in the span of a week. This company doesnt do anything quickly. I havent seen any evidence of the wand being worked on or any preperations of its removal.

Unless theyre going to do this in the next 2 months..... I dont see it comming down until 2007, at the earliest.

As mentioned...the new Vacation Planning Guide has edited out the wand in some scenes...but other scenes the wand is still there. So either they used old footage or they only edited some of the scenes. And I agree that they would not take the wand down until 2006-2007 at least.

lol...that hat coming down is absolutely, positively, out of the question. It's permanent and most guests like the hat. With all of the construction projects under way for the 50th, I would not hold my breath on anything being demolished.

ok, off the subject, but i didnt want to bounce something form years ago, anyway, my question: i am listening to live365 disney radio station, and the ride thru audio of SSE was playing, and i swear the voice from '03 version sounded just like the bad guy in die hard 3 with samuel jackson. he was the brother of the first bad guy from die hard 1 (hanz). sorry, cant remember the onscreen or off screen name.

anyway, is the narrator this guy or a sound alike?

Jeremy Irons is the person you are referring to. He also did the voice of Scar in The Lion King. His bio lists that he is the narrator for SE.Jeremy Irons Bio

As I posted not too long ago in another subject, (which I tried looking for but the search wasnt working) Yes the wand will be gone for sure by May 5th. It's not going to take months to take down like someone said. It will take about a week. And the Wand will be replaced with a Giant Stich Hitting SE with a Golf Club.... :D j/k but for real yes it will be gone

Heh, sorry to bump the thread, but jeee, what was supposed to happen today?
