I said it yesterday, they specifically edited it (the wand) out of one of the scenes on the new planning DVD.

Really?? I didn't notice. That should say something.

Come on guys....Surely Disney would NEVER EVER make anything tacky for the 50th ....I mean...that's like saying they would turn the castle into some kind of big cake or something!!!.........oh wait....yeah...nevermind with that thought :animwink:  (yes I'm being sarcastic lol)

I just wish they would leave things alone...sometimes I think simple is better...but I know a lot of people enjoy seeing it differently. For me, I hardly get to go, so I like to see it as I remember it how it was originally. Lets just cross our fingers they don't mess this up.

LOL. I hear ya. Sometimes they go over board with things. Your right. Simple is better. Don't get me wrong. I'm all for celebrateing for events, but it seems that lately there is ALWAYS some event to celebrate. It gets kinda old. Would be like having to go to a different freinds B-Day party EVERYDAY.

The DVD is not the only thing they have removed it on. I've seen it missing in the shots on the "in house" tv channels. You can also find more and more t-shirts and such at Disney, without the wand on it.

Ha.. so no other source gave you this information?

Nope. That's why I specifically stated that it's only a rumor. I, too, am wondering where some people get their info (remember, Harry Potter is coming to Epcot!)

By the way, how do I join the D-Troops?

Actually, about two weeks ago, a thread similar to this was fairly popular on here. So I went to disneyworld.com to check out their SE advertising...and sure enough, the Flash movie had been changed on the attraction's page. It began and ended with an older shot of the geodesic sphere that was pre-wand!

I immediately posted this on the board; two days later, the old Flash movie, which includes the wand, was back on the site.

If I had to guess on when it would be most likely to come down, I woulds say in time for Epcot's 25th Anniversary in 2007, that makes a bit more sense.

Just follow the sig link and read through the site. Front page and forums give info. (The site is not competition for any other, we have a distinct purpose, to let Disney know how we feel on many issues). But let's end the d-troops discussion here, we have other threads in chit chat.

As for the wand, there's a big thread in General Discussion ("Which do you think is worse?") I listed my feelings. . . I think 2007 would be a good time to have it come down.

I have a feeling that those noticing the wand missing in video footage are simply seeing stock footage that Disney uses all the time.

Are there other tell tale signs pointing to the video having the wand actually edited out? For example, are the huge stones shown at the same time in front of SSE?

They use old video footage a lot in new promos and commercials.

btw- I also hope it comes down soon.

Stich to Replace Wand

As I posted not too long ago in another subject, (which I tried looking for but the search wasnt working) Yes the wand will be gone for sure by May 5th. It's not going to take months to take down like someone said. It will take about a week. And the Wand will be replaced with a Giant Stich Hitting SE with a Golf Club.... :D j/k but for real yes it will be gone

a week? Yeah, right. I'd like to see them try. It took them several months just to switch the sign from 2000 to Epcot, and it took at least 6 months to build the thing. Taking it down takes roughly as much time as building it--they can't exactly hit it with a wrecking ball and let it tumble down. They need to take it down piece-by-piece just like they built it piece-by-piece.

It was not stock footage. It was the new host (Erin) standing on the pathway just behind SE neat the Art of Disney. In my humble opinion, it seems that I should have been able to see the top of the wand from the angle they were shooting at, the star and the sparks. Just my opinion. Maybe my eyes were fooling me, but from that angle, I would expect to see the top of the wand. But it was not there. And it was definately new material. New footage. The video includes lots of stock footage pre- and post-wand. As I wrote, right after this scene in question, they display an image of SE with the wand. So, this is to be taken with a grain of salt. It's just that from the angle, I would expect to see the wand. It wasn't there. See for yourself:

(animated gif)

as I wrote, take it with a grain of salt. Maybe from that angle, the wand DOES disappear. After all, the clouds are moving in the space where it should be, so maybe there was no *editing out* at all. Perhaps it's just a funky angle.

Ok so I exgerated (sp) a little, but it won't take as long as it did to put up or to switch it. From what I was told they could do in a week, but they have a time table of 3 weeks. They really only need a crane or two and then start un-screwing the nut and bolts lift the parts down to waiting trucks and it's done. After all they can build a house in a week on Home Makeover.

Yes! Called that one too (on D-Troops discussion)! Even got the date right! I am on fire!!

Hey WaltMickey, any news of taking down that ugly, garish hat from 1930s Hollywood at MGM? That would make my day even more.

I'm not a cynic, but I'll believe it when I see it. Although I hope it's true...

I know from personal experience that it doesn't take nearly as long to deconstruct a large structure as it does to put it up.
