is it me or does the forums lately are becoming more and more a place about whining rather than to celebrate what WDW is, was and will become?

i guess is very simple how to correct this, you either like WDW as it is, or you dont.

just a thought

I'm just not fine with trying to cut costs at every corner. This is my single biggest problem with the WDW of today compared to the WDW of the 80s and early 90s. Quality does not appear to be top priority like it used to.

It's not as simple as either you like it or you don't. I love the place but sometimes get disappointed when I know it can be so much more. There are some that are take the nitpicking too far but WDW is not above healthy criticism.

This is a discussion forum, what did you expect? People whine on discussion forums all the time. We're pretty much no different than the others.

To me is not some much about being a little peeved with recent decisions disney has made, but it's more so the tone that most posters post in. I'm slowly starting to see that a lot of the "whiners" have a point. But I still think it's a little counterproductive to complain and moan about how WDW's quality is slipping, and it was better back in X decade, but still continue to give them your money. It's understandable to be able to go and still enjoy yourself, but when the tone of most of the posts sound as if it was impossible to enjoy yourself because they brought back a 3d show, or because there's nothing else to look at but screens on SSE, or because of that burnt out light bulb, then I start to think "why are you going." But hey, everyone's gotta get their magic fix somehow.

It comes and goes and flows in all directions.

You'll find this on ANY site devoted to certain entertainment-themed topics. There is actually very little new information most of the time, so people have to go round and round discussing the same things for months on end.

There is a point, though, with some posters that you just want to shake them and say, "If you don't like it (in this case, Disney), then stop going!" It's one thing to be critical, but quite another to be perpetually dissatisfied. You see that a lot with the bloggers who write "articles" about Disney as well (many of which have about as much journalistic integrity as a house flea), when you wonder how someone can write day after day, year after year, and just be so perpetually unhappy and critical.

It's basically the nature of the Internet. I have to say, after more than half a decade coming here, though, that while things can get very heated around here at times, overall the S/N ratio here is much, much higher than any other Disney site out there, which is why it's the only discussion board about the topic I check regularly.

I think people belive that by complaining and whining on the boards, Disney will hear them and try to change things to make them happy. If not that then maybe they think people will take their side until someone officially puts in a complaint for them.

I think you raise a good point. There have been occasional articles that claim Disney execs do read fan sites to see what's being said. One would hope they'd put stock in what's being said. The only problem is that often there are legitimate complaints (like the Yeti going un-fixed), but people almost always follow those complaints with comments like, "But I still love WDW and this won't stop me from going there." If I were a Disney exec reading a comment like that, I'd think, "Cool, we don't have to spend the money fixing that thing because people are still going to come and spend money whether we do or not. That's awesome!"

Whine, Whine, Whine, We never know what the real reasons are behind the "whys" and "why nots" are. I just try to smile and celebrate what I have today. ;)

Honestly, I think it is simply like this; Disney set the standard for quality in the 50s and improved on it well into the 70s and 80s. As the cost conscious regime came in, the quality began to suffer. Every other park has always tried to live up to the standards that Disney Parks have maintained. Net net, people expect it in Disney, not at other parks

That is such a great way to think of things. I think more people should be humble & appreciate what they have and what they are lucky enough to do. Disneyworld may not be perfect, but it is still my favorite place on Earth. I think people get so caught up in griping about whats wrong or what Disney 'should' do that they forget to appreciate what an amazing place it is.

It has gotten much better over the past few months.

In the fan circles I travel, Disney fans are some of the harshest and in some cases rudest fans I've encountered and it's been that way since I logged on for the first time 8 years ago. The only type of fan that I've encountered that are worse are online gamers. Granted, that is just my experience, your mileage may vary.

With that said, there will always be people who refuse to not only see the good, but not see Walt Disney World for what it is, a theme park where you exchange your money to make memories.

Once someone crosses over from seeing it as a business to seeing it as having some other higher purpose (whatever that may be...EPCOT Center), that's when the cycle of perpetual disappointment starts.

I think it is perfectly reasonable to not be pleased with your stay or your perceived value. What baffles me are folks who continue to go after numerous bad experiences. We even have had posters here claim that the last time they enjoyed WDW was in 1994 and they are still going back.

I would have to agree. Gamers are followed closely by Star Wars fans. I have gotten to the point where I do not even go into gaming or Star Wars message boards because they have degraded into being nothing more than page after page of a b%$#h fest.

What was it some Disney imagineer/exec. said on travel channel?

"disney is held to a higher standard, because it holds itself to a higher standard."

and then goes on to say something like- "when people go to WDW they expect it to be one of the biggest/best points of their (vacation) lives, nothing will ever be like Disney" or something like that.

Anyone got the direct quote? please? really. I like it.

my point is yes, I have , as well as others at times been snippity on the boards (and I have apologized in previous posts and am trying to be more "Disney").
I think it is only because we all love it sooooo much!!!

If we didn't, why would we care and get bent? People are people, and far from perfect...- Just a tad of perspective

I don't have the direct quote, but you're right, that is a good one.

Personally any time I'm at a Disney park I'm just so grateful to be there, I don't find too much to cry about. Then there's my FIL who went to DL as a child and then to WDW in 1980, and is still to this day complaining about how inferior "the new one" was :ROFLOL:
