Rumor Is Apple about to make the happiest acquisition on earth?

So, I'll preface with the fact I hate Apple products and the company in general. I use an iPhone for work so have some experience with it. I just can't stand it.

That aside, given the actions of Apple over the years I believe this would be a disaster for Disney Parks. Apple is the company that sent operating system "updates" that intentionally degraded the functionality of it's own products to force people into making new purchases. Do you really trust a company with a moral compass that's that far off? I realize that the OP didn't necessarily give an opinion of whether they wanted this, but the simple question sends a shudder up my spine.

What would they do with Disney Parks? Start slowing down and intentionally sabotaging all rides at the outdated and "obsolete" Magic Kingdom to force attendance to the other three parks. And then years later take a wrecking ball to Magic Kingdom because attendance is so bad while boosting prices to the moon for the rest of the parks?

I can't wait to make iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and Mac more timeless, more relevant, more family, and more Disney!

You truly are evil.

It would solve alot of problems for both companies, but would probably create an exponential number of new problems. I think there would be both governmental (regulatory and political) and customer resistance to such a combination. I just don't see it as very likely. I think both companies are focused on the Macro Economy at the moment, and launching a merger in the middle of this mess, would be not a decision any lawyer or risk manager would advise.

I think it goes against Apple's laser focus of doing a few things very well. Obviously the media content would be a fit, but can you really see them wanting to be involved in cruise lines, theme parks and plastic toys?

Apple holds like a gazillion patents. A while back they received a patent for "Itravel" (although it focused more on the airline side of things). I think they've always been somewhat interested in the travel industry. To what extent, remains a mystery. But I don't think they are interested in entering the OTA fray.

Apple buying Disney wouldn't pass regulatory muster without some significant divestitures, if even then.

I’m not sure on that...anti trust is all but a joke now..

And Disney has no direct system of distribution except for + and direct app subscriptions.

Not sure that would be that big of a problem?
But this is all conjecture anyway. Slow “news day”...I guess? 😉

Just saying, even at today's price, that's a lot of money to spend to acquire IP for a streaming service. I'd hope that Apple would be more responsible with their money.

A purchase this large would take up a lot of time and by the end of it, it's likely Disney's value would be in a different place.

Not quite. The iOS battery throttling allowed people to keep using their devices by preventing them from crashing. It was tied directly to the health of the battery, not the age of the product.

Your statement is more accurate than mine, but why were they forced to pay massive fines and/or settlements? Gotta be something wrong they did. There are many reasons I dislike the iPhone, but not being able to change the battery myself and not being able to install external memory cards is way up there on my list. That's one of the great things about not living in a dictatorship and having choices. We all have the ability to purchase what we prefer. With that said, I prefer Apple not purchase Disney. lol 🤣

Why would Disney sell itself at a discount? They wouldnt.

And Apple has other things to worry about it in this economy, its own stock is down about 25%.

Think of how many ‘never Apple’ Disney fans would all of a sudden convert and switch to iPhone... 🙄

Your roll-eyes emoji says volumes. I have a feeling that if people were forced to only purchase iPhones in order to attend Disney Parks, it might end in a class-action lawsuit. Not saying it'd be successful. Just saying I foresee that happening. I'd rather never again attend a Disney Park if something like that happened, and just spend my dollars across town.

First quarter of 2019, Apple has a 245 billion cash position. Disney the last time I checked was worth $110 billion. That was pre-Corona.

Actually market cap is currently $160B including Corona effect to date. Seems like a bargain to me. Maybe I'll put in a bid. Bet I'd get a lot more crap around these boards if I took ownership. 🤣
