For Christmas, I got a 16GB iPod Touch. Pros and Cons:

+ The screen quality is amazing. Pictures from here look great, as does Pirates of the Caribbean.
+ It's cool. The touchiness is outstanding.
+ WiFi. Webpages show up like they would on your PC or Mac

- No Flash
- Low battery life
- No external pictures

No Flash...as in camera flash...or as in Web browser flash?

I have the iPhone which is basically the touch with the phone capability and you have to look at it a different way. You're talking about an IPOD or cell phone that is getting onto the internet. I have yet to see another cell phone that has full internet capabilities...or another mp3 player that has full internet capabilities (now, I'm not up on the newest smartphones out there, so there may be others that have it).

I think the battery life is fairly decent. I have yet to run out of battery power if I charge it on a nightly basis. It definitely could be better though.

Here is a con I have with my phone while watching movies...even movies downloaded from iTunes get majorly cut off while watching them. If you don't know what I'm talking about...try watching Cars or Transformers on it...you'll notice that both sides get severely cut off. (Think taking a widescreen movie...and putting it on a standard television set without changing the ratio).

The only other con I'd have is with the speed of the internet while not in a WiFi hotspot. The Edge network is a little too slow (not HORRIBLE...but compared to the capabilities it could have...it's slow)

my voyager has good interent capability. it compares pretty well to th eiphone, I think. but I had the same issue you do about battery life -- I MUST charge thephone every night. I get my video from Verizon Vcast and they look good.

but I'll be sticking with the nano, not buying the touch...the battery life is so much better, and if I'm going to carry two devices anyhow....

I love my iPod Touch! I love downloading songs directly to it... no more dragging out the wire and plugging it in. And it's also so much easier for me to find my music. It's also great for watching movies on plane rides. :)

Define 'low battery life'. My old nano has 11 hours and I've never really thought it was that bad. I've heard the new iPod classic can play 24 hours music on its battery.

I'd say that it greatly depends on whether the screen is on or off. If the screen is off...and the music is just playing, you'll get a TON more time than if you're constantly using it to keep the screen on.

I, myself, haven't had the battery run out...but, at the same time, I also haven't used it nonstop to test it out.

The iPhone allows you to sync external pictures to it...so I'm sure the Touch does also.

When you sync, click on the iPOD in your "Devices" tree in iTunes. There are tabs across the top and click the one that says, "Photos," You can choose which folders to sync to the device.

Apple just released a software upgrade for the iPod Touch that you may be interested in.

For $19.99 you can get five mobile applications to add to it.

1. Mail
2. Maps
3. Stocks
4. Weather
5. Notes.

The iPhone got a free software upgrade that consists of...
1. Send SMS Text Messages to multiple recipients
2. iTunes Movie Rentals
3. The ability to customize the home screen (and now have up to 9 home screens)
4. Not only can you move icons...but you can add your own (AKA, a bookmark on the home screen)
5. Maps gets a major overhaul. You can add pushpins to any location and name it...and now using triangulation, it can pinpoint your exact spot based on the nearest WiFi hotspots. (Sure, this isn't exactly GPS, but I tried it at my house which isn't even located on any maps yet...and it found me.) (It also gives traffic information)

I'm really enjoying the fact that it is similar to a GPS. It's bad enough that you need to tell it where you are going, but to constantly try to find the address that was closest to you got a little annoying. (Probably my only gripe with the iPhone aside from the quasi-slow network).

1 down...now to fix the EDGE :)

I can't figure out how to download it. hehe. :hammer:

Which iPod do you have?

When you plug your iPod in, you should have a "Check for Updates" button in iTunes...click it and it will tell you that there is an update...and you can click "Download & Install Now"

Flash as in web browser. Movies show up great on my iPod, but it can be cut off sometimes.

Define 'low battery life'. My old nano has 11 hours and I've never really thought it was that bad. I've heard the new iPod classic can play 24 hours music on its battery.

My primary iPod (80GB video) has 20 hours for audio. My iPod Touch goes in four hours, probably. I define 'low' as anything below 1/2 or 3/4 of the way down.

I'm not sure what I meant by pictures, but pictures do look great, especially when you flip the screen.

I think I figured it out. Hehe:)

Congrats.

I will agree with that but a major con I have with the Iphone is that it has no stereo blue tooth capability. Why put so many great features into the phone and then leave out the one that should have been the first thing they put on it. My wifes phone is a free samsung and it has it. I guess thats for version 2.

Do you mean like car stereo bluetooth?

The iPhone is compatible with the following manufacturers:

Lexus
BMW
Acura
Infiniti
Chrysler
Honda

No bluetooth stereo headphones like
motorola_s9.jpg

The I-phone is missing the A2Dp profile that allows stereo playback via blue tooth. It just seems like such a no brainer with a music phone.
