I think IOA is the number one thrill/theme park. MK is the number one theme park. I put IOA as an thrill/theme park because its one of the only themed thrill parks.

I agree. I have no background in surveys or polling, but I've seen enough results of polls, and then the original questions on the poll, to know that a survey can be designed to skew the results. And, let's face it, when someone says "theme park" to many of the people on this forum, they think something that Disney built. But there are alot of people who hear "theme park" and think of the best thrill rides, which (sigh) is not always Disney.

You just brilliantly put into words what I have been trying to say since Day One at WDWMagic. For a thrill park, IOA is an extremly well themed park. Now that you've put that into context I feel so much better. For a theme park only it is lacking some, but for a thrill park, it has awesome theme, even down to the music.

I don't think rides make it a theme park, THEME makes it a theme park.

Youre correct. but that being said, 2 of the biggedt rideas @ IOA, Hulk and Dueling dragons lose their theming as soon as you leave the station. paintong the track gree, blue and red does not continue theming of a ride. Look @ RNRC once the train is launched the theming continues ex: street signs. Hulk and DD have no theming to them once you leave that station.

Aside from your arguements.. which i'm sure you're thoroughly enjoying..

5000 people is fewer (a good deal) than the number of people who visit UoE on any given day.

Hulk does have the launch tunnel with the spiel from Dr. Banner and a surreal theme of "what you may experience when exposed to Gamma Radiation". On the other hand... DD has zip.

Well, there is not much DD could have. Also, the trains are made to be like dragons. So tell me what they could have done with it. I think the queue more than makes up for it.

Hey, i don't think it needs anything, If I want to ride a great coaster, I don't want to be looking at Silly BillBoards. Like I said earlier, IOA is the best themed thrill park ever, so why does the coaster track have to have theme. If they wanted to, they could have... but people are riding for the track layout, not to reinact a story.

I know, I'm just saying this to all of the people who think it needs to be improved.:) And to those people, if DD was in AK, and had the same themeing, would you be complaining? I doubt it.

I think IOA is the BEST park in orlando. I dont think it is a great theme park but it is a great thrill park. the rides dont need improvement i just dont think they are themed well and yes it is difficult to theme a roller coaster but if they can build an amazing park lioe IOA they could have figured out some theming

That is so untrue. MGM Studios isnt just a theme park.

Now come on, we all know Phoenix is right. MGM would have been a dismal failure from day one if it hadn't opened with two strong attractions like ToT and RnR... Heck, it probably wouldn't have even made it into it's second or third year of operation! ;)

 I was being sarcastic, RnR didn't even officially open till the beginning of the Millennium celebration in 1999 (with a soft opening summer of 99)

My point was that no single one or two attractions can make a theme park. It's the entire experience. One can hardly say that ToT was responsible for the majority of visits to MGM prior to 2000. It's one ride, it's like four minutes long. Who pays $50 to go to a park, ride a single ride and see if there is anything else there worth doing?..

One ride doesn't make a park. IOA and it's attendance is living proof of that.

Yes, and more than I would be about the way it is in IOA....

Dragons wouldn't have been that difficult to theme to at least a small degree, instead of spitting you out of the castle and away from all theme, they could have built up crumbling "towers" around some of the supports that the coasters could have swerved through. They could have added sound effects so that you hear a roar or something when the dragons pass each other. One is themed fire and the other ice, they could have done something cool with hot and cold chambers - going through tunnels, sort of like the dragons lair... A lot of simple stuff like that which wouldn't distract terribly from the ride, the tower things (like the dragon - castle scene in the movie Shreck) would have actually made the ride more thrilling since it would appear like you were going to slam or bump against something every other second. With the expense and effort they put into the line, the things I mentioned wouldn't have been that big of a deal to actually implement on the ride itself and we would have had more than just a line with a theme... This would have made it more of a theme park ride instead of the amusement park ride that it actually is... BTW, Dragons and the Hulk, two (or 3) signature attractions are incredibly cheap by Orlando standards... You call up B&M place your order and they even show up to put it together. Bush Gardens has done it a couple of times to boost attendance and those kinds of rides and such things are expected out of them as a sort of second rate theme park that leans more in the direction of amusement park when it comes to rides... And what's funny is that even though their coasters are older, Bush Gardens FL, still holds a higher average rating in the top 20 steel coasters than IOA does and theirs were also made by B&M.People talk like DIsney is being cheap for not putting these kinds of coasters in but they don't seem to realize that these coasters are cheap (relatively speaking) with an initial proposed budget of $200 million dollars Disney could easily have stuck a B&M coaster in all four of it's Florida parks with plenty of cash to spare... Disney aside, I still think Universal Studios Florida is a better theme park than IOA even if the bulk of it's attractions haven't been kept up well over the years.

One comment about the poll. In order for any of it to be even close to fair, wouldn't every single person taking place have had to have visited every single park and hotel/resort in the poll? I mean, unless someone hears about how great one is, how do they even have any idea? Did people just watch the Travel Channel infomercial and believe it or what? I mean, they do a pretty good job of making USF and IOA look like a single big park in that thing anyway, maybe that's why USF got such a low ranking. :D

Not really. Like many people here, they are just tired of Disney's BS and are pleased with all of the improvements that Universal is making this year.

Like many people here? Phoenix, did you stumble across this section of this forum by accident? I ask because unless you did some strange search in a search engine that brought you to a thread in this section, you’d have had to have been out looking for Disney fan sites to have even come across this forum since it is inside of a Disney fan site… Now, this is a Universal section but it’s not exactly separate from the rest of the forum any more than help and support is. I’m guessing that most people who are fed up with Disney would not be out there actively searching for Disney sites and I would think that people who don’t like Disney but are big fans of Universal would spend their time on one of the vast, regularly updated Universal Florida fan sites out there instead of the incredibly small Universal section of a large Disney fan site. I’m thinking that might be why a lot of people in this forum aren’t in clear agreement with you much of the time.
