Rumor Inside Out to Replace Journey into Imagination with Figment?

You're so wrong...

With respect, there are multiple articles out there explaining that Disney invoked the sponsorship contract about 10 years in, and Kodak was in some serious financial issues at the time. They didn't want to lose the sponsorship (and kept it, in fact until 2010) but came back with a dramatically lower budget for the rework than was anticipated. Disney, trying to work within this budget, closed Imageworks instead of updating it, and built basically half a ride.. which barely involved Figment at all. Which was then reworked to at least add some figment content shortly thereafter.

Is that incorrect?

Why can't they let the Inside Out Characters host the Wonders Of Life Pavilion and leave Imagination to Figment and Dreamfinder...The Wonders Of Life Pavilion would be perfect and obvious for that IP...You could easily add several attractions, a restaurant and shop... let the Festival Center move to one of the empty communicore Buildings where they should be, and do a purpose-build out for that... If the festivals are here to stay, make a meaningful permanent home for them...and design them for seasonal festival overlays to redress the space for each festival...But design it this way from the ground up...not repurposing an actual attraction devolving into meeting space....

Much of the pixar IP deals with life in one form or another.. wallE, inside out, big hero six... if I was The Guy WoL would get several small attractions focusing on those and their real world tie ins.. consumption of resources, physically maturing, and the future of medicine.

Let me reiterate changes to the main Imag pavilion are still not agreed nor are going to happen for a while yet.
By "main" pavilion, I assume you're referring to the area where you exit the Figment ride. Would that indicate that the EO / HISTA theater has more immediate plans?

Either way, it's really a sad state of things. I don't hate JIIwF as much as most people, but the pavilion itself is just depressing. It's one of the very few areas in any of the parks where I think to myself, "Disney should be embarrassed."

Yeah, the stuff at the end is a shadow of what used to be upstairs, and half of it seems to be broken every time we go. Plus "email yourself a picture of figment!".. that's "the tomorrowland problem" in a nutshell right there. When it was conceived, I don't think Disney thought everyone would be carrying pocket computers capable of not just pictures, but live video and instant worldwide video communication around in their pockets with them.

I don't know if The DIS is one of the sites we're allowed to talk about around here, but I watch their videos from time to time and they brought up something similar in their reporting from D23. Maybe Walt's vision for Epcot simply... isn't working. It's sacrilegious to say so, but I think they may be right.

EXACTLY!!! Big Hero 6, Inside Out, Wall-E... all with their own atttractions and keep it as a WOnders of Life theme, but with Pixar/Disney characters hosting... The pavilion retains it's educational background and all is right with the world...
It is so simple...

I think if Walt were around to see it implemented, it wouldn't be having the issues it's having now. Epcot reeks of scope creep. Instead of smaller, easier to update (as was the plan, according to Walt) rides, we got these massive, massive things that, while awesome, take so much energy and capital to update, they get pushed out 5, 10, 20 years.

But Moore's Law is a thing.. and tech keeps increasing faster than they can buiild, and that will always be a problem.

I don't think we ever saw Walt's vision for Epcot.

Moore's Law is over, but that's a separate conversation.

I never understood the hate for imagination, and always defend it. With the current state of Innovations, Wonders of Life, the Energy Pavilion, Odyssey, and what they did to Test Track, and adding the CGI to Soarin', why even complain about Journey to Imagination at all? Its a cute ride, and my girls love the upside down part. As a kid from the 80's, my memories of the original are not as fond as others, as I found the literature room terrifying. I guess the only complaint would be the Pixar short films, however I prefer to leave it alone and address more pressing issues first.

For me the current Imagination is obnoxious and insulting. It's just not very well done. I can see why they haven't viewed it as a problem and keep putting off re-doing it but compared to the original it pales in comparison. In isolation I suppose it's not the worst. I don't mind the new Soarin'. I know some people fixate on the CGI but just sit back and enjoy the ride. It's nice it now fits the park, to a certain degree. I like Test Track but I preferred the dated first version compared to the build a car version now. Even both versions could have been done better. I had to laugh as a guy I was sitting next to couldn't believe we made a spin around a parking lot/dump zone behind the pavilion. It is kind of bad show.

I wasn't fond of Mission Space either. I rode it once and never felt compelled to do it again. Maybe the upgrades it's getting will change my opinion of it and I'll start doing it more.
