Innoventions West to Close in May?

The Epcot Manifesto
I would be all for this, but the chances of Horizons returning are honestly probably better.
Fun little fact I figured out a few weeks ago about Horizons that made me giggle and has nothing at all to do with this thread.
In Horizons, they were showing the future as seen through various points in history. The last scene in this was showing the future as seen from the 1950s. Horizons opened in 1983, so between 1983 and 1950, there were 33 years.
From today to the opening of Horizons is roughly 32 years.
If they were to build a New Horizons, old Horizons could be a scene in it showing how we thought of the future in the 80s, the same amount of distance away in the past as the original attraction looked back.

Google image search for "Epcot Horizon" warms my heart and almost makes me cry. WDW BRING IT BACK!!

I always liked the benches area across from Where's the Fire. Hope it won;t be another coffee shop!

Are you kidding? In November & December they were closing 1/2 of Starbucks around 5 on super cold nights... which ensured a 15 minute long line. Of course they were also manipulating the wait times by hitting the "served" button.

dave.. i think they really have cut corners and under-looked things for far too long epcot and the studios are both a joke on there own....if you remove MK from Florida you have nothing, i think the execs likely know this but are faced with the thought of (we need to do a DCA makeover to two parks!) and financially that's just...a hard pill. alass it could all have been avoided if decisions were made differently i hope they remember the latter.

Epcot isnt quite the disaster that Studios is right now. It can quickly become that way if they let buildings just sit there empty.

I would love to see some sort of Horizons 2 in either the Innoventions West bldg or WoE bldg. Bring back the original concept of Horizons, update it with modern tech like LEDs and LCD screens, make it even better than the first.

here is a little reminder of some of the cool scenery from the original Horizons:

We could get lucky... the 50th is on the horizon (no pun intended), and they could take a "retro" turn with all of the parks and go back to basics; including a major facelift of Epcot which would bring it back to it's original vision of a "Permanent World's Fair."

One can dream. :angelic:

Honestly, all that is going on (or theoretically supposedly planned to go on, like at DHS) is what has me nervous. I hate to continue to come off like a pessimist here, because I'm actually the opposite of that in 3/4 of the Disney parks, but Disney looks to be dropping lots of money into DHS and DAK at the moment, and just dropped lots of money into MK for the Fantasyland Expansion.
Sure, Epcot may get a big makeover, but how far off is it? They are theoretically going to have massive construction projects at DHS and DAK going on at the same time, IMO there is no way anything close to what Epcot needs will be going on until one or both of those are done.

I don't think Epcot is going to get the big make over treatment like we believe is in the works for DHS, I think they are going to get a phased freshening that is at least 10 years overdue. We already have two major projects in the Frozen-Norway and Soarin changes.

I think the BH6 rumors are probably more or less on-point. We've known for awhile that leadership wants a 3rd festival focused on Future World and Technology. BH6 has given them a kid-friendly method to do that. I expect Innoventions will become BH6 - STEM related as others have rumored and that will anchor a new technology festival. and what is currently Innoventions West will be split between that and on-going convention space.

This won't affect the Epcot Character spot side of Innoventions and the open window hallway?
Just as long as that is open...I'll be happy...

Also let's just hope they keep the Innoventions loop going!

I love this area, but NO benches at all...drives me crazy. It's such a nice place to be able to cool off and relax, but NO. There's benches right outside in the sun, but in Disney's great wisdom....no benches in this nice cool area.

This is a very nice walk through area. It has a museum-like feel to it already & it would be nice if they'd continue to use it as such. If that rumor about the LaL images is true and Disney moves them to here, lets hope they do it tastefully and retain the feel of the place.

Or Leave it the way it is and not ruining it and put the LAL Tiles in the area that they are closing...It's much bigger to occupy that spot and also put an Epcot History exhibit there....I'm all for that instead..Ala One Man's Dream/25th Anniversary exhibit

At one point it looked like this.....Although I really like the Banners...
