I think that the Cars theme would be great here. My kids love this ride because they can drive and they are 6,9 &14. It would be so cute to see the little character cars from the movie going around the track.:) To me that would make it more of a Disney ride than what it is today.

....WHY is this inferior attraction in TOMORROWLAND in the FIRST place??? [sic] WDW was not built in 1900 when racecars were a far vision of the future, so what's the deal?

A little history lesson will answer this question for you.

Early in DL's history (very early) they had three Autopias, not just one. There was a Mini-Autopia in FL, a Junior Autopia between FL and TL, and the Autopia in TL. The mini version was the standard park car ride on a track. The junior version did not have a track, but was shorter in distance than the "real" Autopia which was longer and bigger. When WDW was built they took the easy way out and used DL's footprint, with some size and attraction changes, which left Indy in TL.

The reason for the Autpoia in TL was because TL was built to respresent 1984 and this ride was the "future" of the American Highway (Route 66 was still in vogue at that time). It has just stayed in TL as the year's went on.

There's nothing better than riding the Indy Speedway...stopping...and asking the people in the next lane for directions.

Ever go on it with someone else and turn to them and say, "This thing rides like it's on rails?"
