:animwink: Valid point.....that memory of ride as a child is a wonderful thing, that it stays much the same is often a good thing in the future experiences both as an adult and as same adult to share with our children what our memory was...

Think I saw much nicer variety of the cars from the other disney parks online on their similar rides, that would be fun....so yes, overall would be nice to have it plussed and themed much better...:king:

Thanks for the information on the update.....

Isn't a Cars theming logical?

I remember this rumor running rampant around the movie's release and then again for the DVD release but nothing has come of it. Autopia is fun over at Disneyland every once in a while but its same thing with more interesting cars. Still go around the track, still try to bump people in front of you, etc. I don't really utilize the ride but I think it should stay for the younger ones. I do also think it needs a major theming overhaul and I think Cars would be an excellent move...

Why not use the ride to educate on the future car/fuel options we currently have and are developing. I think they would be able to get car manufacturers to sponsor that easily. Any of the other fuels would be less smelly for those of you who don't love the smell of gasoline(I do I love cars).

Just my opinion.

A refurb changing the ride's themeing to the movie Cars would be a great change for the park. Otherwise I would have to say that without any large theming like it is today then it is like the car rides in other amusement parks around the country, a waste of space (please don't bash me for what I just said, it is just my personal opinion). And someone said that it is one of the most prime pieces of land in Tomorrowland, another major piece of land in Tomorrowland is the parkinglot to the east of Main Street. See the link below to land that could be used in the Magic Kingdom. Some of these areas would be hard to use but if certain backtage roads and other obstacles were rearranged, then it would be possible.

--the yellow areas are the empty land areas that could be used. Room for at least 3 E-Tickets.

The Indy Speedway will always be a big hit with kids and there will always be new generations of children being introduced to Walt Disney World. I rode it as a kid and liked it, but haven't ridden it since 1988. I have never really thought it was up to the calibur of other Disney attractions, but it was there when the park opened and I always like when original classics remain. However it is not in the same world as Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Small World, Carousel of Progress...etc. So if it ever did go in place of another attraction, I wouldn't be heartbroken. Oh and I do kind of like the smell of the cars.

As for the "Cars" tie-in, there was this concept art in the Corporate Disney Report but it never said it was for the Indy Speedway. Actually one picture looks more like a Test Track type ride than anything else. I do think it would be cool to make the ride look like Radiator Springs, but it wouldn't fit with Tomorrow land AT ALL.

Not that you are wrong (although despite its lack of theming, I think it is a Walt Disney original and should stay), but there are so many other things that need to be done. Let's try sprucing up the great rides at the park before we start entirely new construction in MK. If you want entirely new construction, then look to the Studios or AK, that is where the help is truly needed in that department.

Its the highlighted part above that I disagree with. What fixed amusement parks around the world did not have some sort of drive your own car ride?? Its not original... and if anything the version in FL is a fluke in theming that really doesn't make it stand out as a Disney original.

I can't say anything about autopia in DL... because I've never experienced it. Maybe WDC just half-___ed the FL version.

I generally like the attraction... I understand the kids like to drive their own cars... But I really think they have to redo the theming to give it a fresh look. Also i wouldn't be opposed to laying down electrical tracks and letting them run without the lawn-mower engines. The attraction is not a loss... it just needs to be brought up to speed... make it look like it belongs in Tomorrow land. Make it appear to be speed cruisers from the future... or something. NASCAR of the future???

Count us in the group of parents who ride this ride with the children. In Dec. the lines were short enough that we rode it numerous times. I wouldn't wait an hour for it, but the kids will wait 30 mins for it while we are in between fast pass times

I agree! I was just trying to differentiate from another poster who said to remove it because it was taking up valuable real estate. I think an overlay would be great, but a change to some cooler cars, perhaps non-gas vehicles would be great.

I believe that all Indy needs is a good and well done refurb. Instead of changing the theme to Cars, we should make it more futuristic by having more streamlined cars by running them on electric power instead of gas. Adding additional props to the area by possibly bringing back the House of the Future as something you drive by could add for a better experience. Some sight gags would not be bad either, such as Goofy (towards the Toontown section) stuck on the side of the road because he forgot to charge his new hovercraft or something like that. By "plussing" what is already there can add for a new experience for those who know the attraction well, as well as giving the kids the experience of "driving".

It amuses me to see a simple, "What was changed in the Indy Speedway refurb?" question turn into a, "This ride has poor theming," opinion. XD

Anyway, to answer the original poster's question, all I know that's been changed is that the cars look better, smoother, and shinier than it used to be. But that's just me. ^^; I'm going at the end of May, so I might be able to make a better report about it, lol.

This attraction is MISERABLE. :fork:

The regional parks have better kids attractions.

The same rail type cars go faster then a 80yr old walkers pace.. and they have different types (race cars.. another track of monster trucks.. another of Model Ts through the woods).. or for the slightly older kids.. they have small cars that aren't on rails that drive around a mini-town.. including signs.. stop lights.. gas stations.. etc.

This attraction is a total waste. Disney could and should be doing so much better with this style of attraction.
