Indiana Jones Adventure refurbishment

Well said. In addition, it’s a real slippery slope. Is the ROA and TSI “working” by El Supers standards? I mean think of all the rides, stores and restaurants they could fit there. Hardly anybody rides those boats or goes to TSI.

I mean... they did shrink them by a good chunk. There's always been plans floating around to park the boats and close the island.

I think @SuddenStorm is probably right though, that Fantasmic has pretty much negated any value in those efforts.

But the bigger point here is, anytime there is an imbalance between cost and value (in turnstile clicks) there is always going to be a desire to fix that attraction.

I really think it is what was said by others above; people just can't resist wanting to put their fingerprints on the iconic classics. The same thing happened to Marc Davis.

LOL yeah.... by Tony. Live by the sword I guess..

Because it's historically important to the park and Walt Disney, and realistically there's nothing else they can put there that's going to do any better long-term. They've tried to remove Lincoln since the seventies off and on, and it's still there because it's clear that people feel it's an important part of Disneyland.

It's important to the people who run Disneyland, and contrary to what gets said a lot around here, the people in charge do seem to care about the historical significance of the park and the individual attractions. Will it always be that way? Who knows. Is it entirely reasonable to think that some distant future will see the opera house shrink and the retail space expand? Is it worth it to make that concession to keep some form of the attraction around?

Need more capacity? After Mickey and MInnie’s Railway, Imagineering and the suits really need to add some big ticket items and smaller attractions to DCA- and quickly. It's been a decade since they've built something there I just HAD to see. And I'm sure I'm not alone.

I think it's those big ticket, have-to-see attractions that bring more people to the parks than they can handle. It's actually more "small ticket" attractions that would actually add capacity-- things people will do and enjoy even if it's not what brought them to the parks.

MiceChat had a great find this week. A certain AA snake is outside looking ready to be reinstalled (likely during the refurb coming soon):

I never understood the giant snake. In the ride, is it supposed to be a real snake? If so, it doesn't seem to fit. I'm not sure we've seen any freakishly large monster snakes like that in the Indy films...
You're taking it too literal, it's supposed to be fun!

You don't want a Galaxy's Edge situation where they get so story locked they are afraid to have a good time.

Tony talks about this in an interview- George was supposedly resistant to a giant snake. Tony fought for it, saying that in the shot in Raiders with the cobra, it takes up a large portion of the frame and looks much larger to the audience. The argument being- a normal size snake would be ineffective in a ride.

They did put hundreds of normal size rubber snakes in the ride, which mostly go unnoticed.

As a rider, coming across a garter snake animatronic or any realistic-sized snake animatronic, for that matter, wouldn’t have the same effect as an oversized animatronic.

I’ve heard this interview and while I agree with Tony’s point I’d argue no snake is better than the one that made it into the ride. It’s a little too cartoony and doesn’t match the more realistic looking set pieces from the rest of the ride minus the dart blowers in the dart room. It reminds me of Snake Jafar from Aladdin.

Yes, I've often thought it was a bit 'out of place' as well, especially with it not working most the time. Though it does hearken back to a time when dark rides weren't as serious- like old spookhouses.

As a child I remember it vividly though- so it does leave an impression for younger riders.

I wonder what could be put there that's more effective?

Tokyo fixed the awful 'rat projection' room with a far better effect but I believe they kept the snake.

I know nothing whatsoever about AA's or engineering, but it's wild to me how they can just let the figures sit out in the open air for long periods. I thought the elements would make that impossible.

I thought that also, but may have just been a right time, right place moment. Perhaps it has just recently been delivered and next step was loading it into a loading bay?

Is the temporary green snake the original figure that was used on the ride? I always thought that one was much more "striking" and less cartoony than the newer beige snake as other users have stated. The green snake probably got replaced sometime in the mid 2000's but I can't put my finger on the exact date.
Here's footage of the green snake from the making of the ride, and from a YouTube video of the ride from 2002. Wonder why it got replaced in the first place!

Wow the lighting seems much better and I forgot it used to move like that! Why is it so bright in that room now? Looks much better than the new snake
