Indiana Jones Adventure at MGM?

Question. Is the motor stunt show being created at MGM in the residential street area in order to replace the Indiana Jones Stunt Show?

If that is the case, if the motor stunt show is meant to otherwise occupy the large audience that would otherwise be at the Indy Stunt Show, what is going to happen to that enormous piece of real estate?

Are we going to see an incarnation of the Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye (to compete with Revenge of the Mummy at Universal) where the Indy Stunt Show used to be?

This is my first posting so I apologize if this issue is old or has been talked of often on these boards.

I ask this question because a Star Tours cast member mentioned to me that if I wanted to see the Indy Stunt Show again I should do so soon. I replied. “How could they get rid of Indy?” The reply was, “Oh, he’s not going anywhere. Just the stunt show.”

Do you think this is just some silly bit of low level gossip? Or is it a possibility? When I consider a possible reason why the Studios would have two stunt shows right across the street from each other I can’t think of one. Especially since they are in need of some stellar rides more along the tines of TOT and RRC.

Can any of you set me straight on this? With Tower going West after 10 years it might just be that J.R. wants to make a big impression and put IJA in Florida...

Logic would dictate such, but logic these days doesn't always apply. I would be surprised is I J Adv is not there in a few years, I would just hope they improve upon the concept, as I wasn't blown away by I J Adv the first time I went on it last year. I had already been on Countdown to Extinction many times and felt it was much better. But then again it was 7 years newer.

I guess I wanted more in Indy than I thought it was. I heard sooo many amazing things about the ride. And while cool, and being a Indy fan, I thought they could have done much more. Alot of the rooms are empty and could have used more props, AA's or whatever.

Does the TDS version improve upon the concept any or just the same ole same ole? (which is still good though)

It was planned for MGM from the start, but AK got the ride system first. Its mgm's turn this time around.

I think its more a matter of when...not if they will build it. With disney's current trends toward not builing new attractions, i would say it could be a while. On the other hand, i can see them building a new stunt show to replace indy, so that they won't have something missing if they close the indiana jones stunt show to make way for the ride. It would make sense for them to push ahead with construction, though, so that the ride could be open by the time Indy 4 hits theaters.

The track layout is identical, but TDS Indy takes on a Mayan temple theme, wheras the DL version of it is an lost Indian temple. They thought Mayan would be more exotic for the Japanese, since they often vacation in Southeast Asia. The temple is not the temple of the forbidden eye, but instead the temple of the crystal skull.
The overall color scheme of the Tokyo version is more blues and greens, where the Anaheim version is more red and orange.
Also, there are a few new effects for the tokyo version, including a swirling "vortex" of smoke and a giant "skull" that blows a ring of fire around your car, similar to the smoke ring effect at WDW's winnie the pooh ride.
The overall theme and feel of the ride has been modified to take on a more South American feel.

I hope they will change the theme/look somewhat from the DL version, because it seems like they are reusing too many things in both resorts lately (TOT, Millionaire, ITTBAB, Muppetvision, Buzz, Rockin' roller coaster, Playhouse Disney, and Pooh to name a few) and soon people in CA won't have a reason to go to FL, and vice vesa. They could come up with a new theme, or go with the Mayan temple theme (although much less exotic for Americans) when they build the WDW version of the Indiana Jones Ride, to keep it fresh. The next big ride for Tokyo DisneySea (opening before TOT) will probably be an Indiana Jones-themed coaster in the area with the Indiana Jones Adventure. (with something like an $80 million pricetag, compared to the $7 million spent on the Paris coaster) It would be REALLY great to have that come to MGM too, with a whole Indiana Jones Mini-land.

There is no reliable information on this yet. Indy has always been a long standing rumor, just like Star Tours 2! LOL. So until we get something solid on this, I wouldnt count on it.

I second that motion.

I think everything else is pure speculation with little facts behind them.

This is new for me
Im surprised they haven't talked so much about it since it's allready in WDI.

So what I understand is that the india jones stunt show will be replaced by an Indiana jones Ride?

Is it going to be the same ride as in Disneyland??

Man I hope not. I dont' really like it when they copy a ride and put it somewhere else.

yea.........but its only logical for Disney to build this highly successful ride in WDW someday, considering they have already had plans for it for almost 10 years now. We haven't heard anything about it being offical (at all), but, it would make sense for disney to build a new stunt show to replace Indy and make way for a new ride. I am in no way saying I know that it will be built or that it has been greenlighted, (or that i have "insider" information) I am simply speculating that the stunt show could be built to make way for a new Indiana Jones ride.

Dl's was built over parts of existing thigns, like they redone part of the jungle cruse & rail road tracks to get it to fit in. Dl did not have the stunt show

Im Glad Disney Studios is getting another Ride. Specially one where is not in Sunset Boulevard
I think it needs to balance it's ppl flow. Sunset Boulevard it's getting too much attention. With the stunt show and the IJ Ride, it should be balanced. :slurp: :sohappy:

Do you think they would ever do a version of the Indiana Jones rollercoaster from Disneyland Paris? I would prefer the Disneyland version....

I'd just like to reiterate that I don’t have any insider information and I don’t mean to create an issue where none exists. However, it is fun to consider the reasons and implications for and of another stunt show.

I found the Indiana Jones ride in Anaheim to be remarkably satisfying. Kind of a cross between all of the dark rides we love with some thunder mountain action thrown into the mix. Nothing beats those fire (real!) effects, the projections of rats silhouetted in the smoke and the “choice” at the ride's beginning. The ride, like TOT, really seems to be a totally immersive experience and I think all of us would like to see a Florida incarnation sooner rather than later.

I really really really hope that the tearing down of residential street and the future stunt show is a step toward the long term plan of utilizing the Indy space for some kind of ride that helps MGM compete on level ground with Universal and Islands of Adventure. I am a Disney fan (aren't we all) and have been all of my life but I must hand it to the folks at Universal. With Spider-Man, the Dueling Dragons and the general feel of Islands… they are gaining ground.

They aren't gaining as much ground as disney is. After Mummy. I don't think Universal will be investing to build a thrid park.. What else is there for them?

Nothing...

BUT, would Disney put the same ride system that is in DAK into MGM? I guess so, but I hope they chnage the layout although you wouldn't be able to tell.
