Incomplete trip reports/thoughts

You know who writes really good trip reports and reviews? Tom Bricker, aka WDWFigment here. If you haven't visited his blog, do so:

Oh I'm familiar with Tom & he w/me but mostly from back when only a handful of people were posting TRs here. Before his blog got going. I should go dig thru his blog stuff. I like that he's upfront about things and doesn't water down things he thinks can be better. It adds an honesty to his writing that I value. ;)

ugh Disboards is clunky and filled with ads. Thats why I stay here
Not to mention pixie dust users.

I agree, it is clunky with annoying ads, but most of the people there write good reports, I must say.

I find photos help tremendously.
They spark memories easily, especially right after you return from a visit.

Getting back to the topic on hand,
I am also *guilty as charged* when it comes to not coming back and finishing a thread i started about wanting to visit DL.

Back in 2007, before my first visit, i started one here in this very Forum that received some decent responses.
A lot of good advice from folks at that time.
I was thankful for the insight.
Post-visit however, i never bothered coming back to the thread and *reporting* how it went..as i figured everyone was already familiar with the place and my feeble words of impression would not be of interest.
I had no idea * finishing* said thread with a review of what my experience was like was being expected.

I found out a few years later when i started poking around in this section of the Forum again...inquiring about DL again...and a couple of longtimers remembered and pointed it out.
* You never came back and let us hear how your visit was...!*
Yeah...they laid it on the line...in a nice way.

It was a surprise.
I had no idea that a *audience* had been waiting to read how it all went!

I was also not really a big fan of *trip reports*...so never considered it.
I had done a couple of uber-detailed ones for a few WDW visits, but they never had a lot of readership.
In hindsight, perhaps much of what i was talking about was over people*s heads as i view the Parks with different eyes than your typical Guest in some unique ways. I can also sometimes go off on a tangent and point out issues or design flaws where i feel it needs addressing, and some may take that to mean i am being too critical or *negative*.
So TRs written by me, were in my eyes, failures when it came to entertaining people.
I thought that maybe nobody could relate to them, as i was viewing the Parks from a more technical/show presentation perspective instead of being overly stimulated on pixie dust.
So *trip reporting* i figured was something best left to others.

Well, to get back to the point....i was clued in....so vowed next time i would make an effort to share the experience.
Even if it was a private *themed experience*...where i did some unusual things.

I hope my most recent DL venture,
* The Tony Baxter Tour of Disneyland * thread, made up for what i was lacking previously.
That thread was a fun *before*, novelty *during* (daily), and hopefully a entertaining and interesting *after* from my most recent visit ( September 2013 ).

:)

@Figments Friend , write reports for YOU! Don't you worry one bit what anyone else thinks. I've enjoyed it most when I wrote for me and my family. My husband ( @Sweetpee's Sugar Daddy ) reads and rereads the reports all the time when he needs a little mind escape at work. My brother ( @obrienIII ) used to call me every few days after a trip asking when I was going to start writing. For me, the writing is my way of processing the entire experience again and wrapping my brain fully around all the details. I write for me. My husband & brother used to tease me about my crazed writings but they seem to have finally admitted that they like it. They look forward to it. To me, there's no bigger compliment from them, the 2 guys I actually care what they think.

I think for the DL vets, I would imagine hearing how the noobs or less experienced folks experienced their home parks allows them to view things from a different perspective. Like what you said, not everyone sees things the way you do in the parks. It might be refreshing for the vets to see their parks thru the eyes of fresh eyes. You know?

BTW, I read a good deal of your recent DL report. I may not have commented. Tedious to do on my iPhone laying in bed late at night. I'm mostly doing good just to focus on what I'm reading. My eyes like reminding me we're getting old. ;) I very much enjoyed your report. :)

Indeed.
I agree. I would imagine some long time visitors who are fans of the Park would find it interesting to read about newcomers visits.

Some years ago i enjoyed writing about my more unusual Park experiences ( primarily WDW ), but I find i enjoy it more when i have responses or interaction from others. A 'audience' that interacts.
I find the questions, or inquiries spark off more thoughts...and can greatly add to the pleasure of not only writing a trip report, but also make it more entertaining to read.

Yes
What's the deal with people going to Disneyland, starting a trip report and not completing it?! :bored:Also, @DznyGrlSD you never told us what you thought about your trip! We're still waiting, a billion years later haha. Hey, @TuffyCatt, @StarWarsGirl95 and @Marc Gil, are you EVER going to finish? It's been months. Have you officially left us hanging? Are you just going to leave your reports as they are? I'm curious.

That's all LOL.

I spent ALL afternoon (finally) writing mine - link is in my siggy.
