In which attractions is videotaping forbidden?

6 weeks and 3 days to go and I am preparing for filming my best WDW (and Florida)-vacation home movie so far. And with some attractions still missing in my "collection" I want to film every single ride and attraction that is interesting to me and where its possible and allowed because this time, my fith trip to world, will be the longest, 10 days, so there is plenty of time for this task.
In which attractions is videotaping definetely NOT allowed? (I am talking about videotaping itself, not external video lighting)

Technically, all of them.

But really, just film any ride anywhere, so long as it isn't dark and you have to turn the back light on. That just bothers people (myself included).

The only circumstances where they really do care (or when they can actually catch you) are ride evacuations and when new rides open.

I actually have to go the opposite route here and say that most attractions allow for photography and video taping as long as you don't use any external lighting (flashes and old school camera lights). Any attraction that doesn't want you video taping will clearly say it at the beginning.

Yes and that's exactly what I want to know, which attractions do this?

I can tell you for sure that carousel of progress doesn't allow it. I was actually surprised to hear them say no photography of any kind as I thought it had always been no flash photography. For some reason I am thinking they said no videotaping at the hall of presidents as well.

I've filmed Carousel of Progress many times and no one ever said anything.

Star Tours doesn't allow it, Someone was trying to film on ours and the CM came over a speaker and told him to turn off the camera.

Then you have been lucky to get away with it. COP has signs saying no photography or video allowed and the theaters are monitored. I have tried myself and have been caught more than once.

I dont know about which ones are forbidden but we have taped the following with no problem whatsoever:

Pirates of the Caribbean
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain
Haunted Mansion
Peter Pan
Small World
Winnie the Pooh
Tea Cups
Everest
Festival of the Lion King
The Seas With Nemo
Spaceship Earth
Gran Fiesta Tour

That's all I can think of right now but I'm pretty sure there's more...last trip I used an hour of tape per day so there has to be.

Just listen to the warning spiels before each ride/show. That's the key. If they say "No external video lighting", that means it's ok, just don't have external video lights on. If they say "No photography or video recording of any kind" then it's probably not the best idea. The types of attractions that typically have this are anamatronic shows (CoP, HoP, American Adventure), 3-D shows (Captain EO, Philharmagic) and Simulators (Soarin', Star Tours).

Oddly enough, Mission: SPACE and Muppet Vision don't care, so those two at least you are free to record. Another odd one is Universe of Energy, but I'm pretty sure as long as you can be stealthy about it, you can pull it off...

I've taped American Adventure a bunch of times too. It seems on some rides and some CM's like to enforce the no taping more than others.

I've taped on Universe of Energy no one ever said "no." I think they do say no external video lighting though.

The worst that happens is a CM says stop, but honestly unless they say it in their spiel or there's a large sign with it how are you supposed to know.

I think the no videotaping thing at Carousel of Progress is a new stance. I can never remember hearing CM's say it in years past.

Thank you, that's sad but important news. I didn't know exactly if it was allowed in soarin and planned to do it.

Why would you want to? I don't mean to be rude but the point of soarin' is the experience (including the motion, effects and huge screen). A video camera just wouldn't capture this effectively.

I'm not sure exactly which attractions do / don't allow recording but if you're planning on filming rides like Expedition Everest, please please please make sure your camera is secured to you and can not be dropped (or even worse, fly out of your hands and hit someone). I've seen some people loop their belt through the camera strap which seems like a pretty good way to keep it attached to you.

I already did EE completely and my camcorder was completely safe in my hands and secured with a strong strap/belt around my shoulders. I know that I don't get the effects of Soarin' captured on video, but when I watch the video back at home I still have some of the spirit of the attraction. You don't get the effects in Mission: Space either on video but I will videotape it this time (on Team Green of course, no risks here) because when I watched it at home I just felt that something was missing, you have all these explanations and board the capsule and then..cut..you walk out again. It's the same with Soarin' you kind of retroactive memorize the effects and add them automatically in your brain if you watch the movie again.

I can't comment on which rides it is or isn't allowed; and somoeone else already commented about external lighting. But one thing I am very tired of is seeing MULTIPLE lighted flip-out screens in front of me in many attractions. Please have consideration for other's enjoyment. I know it's a novel concept these days.
And OP didn't ask this, but I have to add that some people's insistence on videotaping every moment at the expense of actually experiencing it is beyond me. But if someone wants to do that, they can - just keep your lighted flippin' flipout screen closed for the rest of us. :D

I think that's part of the reason they say no photography at all. It's just easier than saying you can photograph as long as you don't ruin it for the other people. Too many people have absolutely no comprehension that there may be people adversely affected by their actions.

Also filming a video screen or movie is hard to do since you can't sync your camera to the projector, you will always get flicker.
