In Search of the Purple Cat & Other Wild Goose Chases

Introductions...and Day 1: Getting settled, getting snacks and heading Dowtown

Well, it's been about a week since we got back...I'm almost done editing and uploading pics...and I've channeled my inner Jennings Osborne and covered my house with lights as best as I can...so, I guess it's time to get this trip report rolling. I don't have many pics for this early section, but I promise you----I have a TON of pics...so please be patient.

If you had a chance to read my PTR, this trip was a surprise for my younger daughter's (Sammie) 4th bday. We also have a 6 yr old daughter named Kendall who got her own surprise WDW trip back for her 5th bday. Sadly- the surprise for Sammie kind of fizzled, but by our departure day (Nov 14th) they were bouncing off the ceiling with excitement.

First things first...I had to get our Daisy Doggy to doggy camp.

Yeah, the girls thought it would be fun to put an 'Ohana lei on her...that didn't last long.

There was MAJOR drama with boarding though...like, "am I going to miss my vacay for this?" kind of drama. Essentially, the girl who took my reservation booked me for October instead of November, and they were booked solid b/c my dates included Thanksgiving. It all worked out in the end, but it was a very ugly 45 minutes. Still, with the dog boarded, we were pretty much ready to go.

We hit the road from the Houston area around 8:15pm. The girls were so excited that they actually stayed awake much longer than expected, but they were both out before we crossed into Louisiana. They woke up each time we stopped for gas, but that was fine b/c it served as bathroom breaks for them and the people with the graveyard shifts at the various gas station convenience stores got a kick out of the girls' road trip bed time attire. They were both in Christmas pjs...Kendall an elf and Sammie as Santa. Kendall also had big furry bunny slippers and Sammie had her ladybugs.

I drove from Houston to the Alabama state line. I couldn't even tell you what time it was when DH took over for me. I went a bit crazy between eastern Louisiana and through Mississippi. I was drinking Diet Mountain Dew and had a couple 20oz diet Red Bulls + peanut butter M&Ms. Let's just say I was WIRED! Around midnight, several stations switched over to holiday music...so just picture me all energized, having a holiday sing a long in the driver's seat, dancing in my seat...and all while everyone else slept! Yeah- it's a good thing there was next to nobody on the road.

The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. DH and I switched off a lot after that just so I could get in some naps. The griping came as we got closer to Orlando...he hates tolls. Still, it was the sign that we were almost there. I was hoping to get some great video of our arrival, but this was the trip where nothing choreographed would work for us. So, you have a pic just before we see the glorious Maingate...

Even my first arrival pic at Yacht Club was pretty pathetic...

I guess at least the pics I was able to get improved...

What really happened, DH and I had a misunderstanding about signs, where to go and what I'd be doing. In a nutshell, I didn't know he was expecting me to navigate. I did take a video (deleted), but it wasn't fit for all audiences.

We parked my vehicle and went to check in. I didn't want to mess with the bags if the room wasn't ready. It was about 3pm and I'd listed our estimated arrival time as 11:30am when doing online checkin. Not sure if it helped, but our room was ready. Which was good because I was a little let down that the guy who checked us in wasn't very enthusiastic or personable. So, since the room was ready we opted to check out the room before figuring out the bag situation. i.e. if it was close enough, we might bring in our own bags. Too bad our room was a million miles away...I swear, any farther and we'd be staying at the Dolphin.

The room was really nice though...a corner room on the 1st floor with a quiet pool from our patio view and a nice water area and lush greenery from our two side windows.

I am so glad you reported on 50s Prime Time and included so many pictures. I just made our dinner ADR for the hubby's birthday there this morning. I can't wait to show your pics to our boys.

I'm so glad the pics can help. I only wish I had told our server earlier on that our kids were good with all the silly stuff. I think the whole section of the restaurant also sang happy birthday to Sammie with a few funny digs from our server...so make sure the bday is noted on your adr.

Your Osborne light pictures are getting me so excited to see them in person on Monday night!!

Just a few more days and you'll be seeing them in person. :D I highly recommend grabbing some hot cocoa (even if it's warm outside) and sipping on it while watching the lights. It adds to the festive feeling.

OK...so now the story behind the lead portion of the trip report title.

Now, if any of you know the story of the purple cat- please feel free to skip this section- otherwise, I found it to be a pretty interesting story.

So, DH and the girls are talking to this cast member overseeing the final set up of the Goofy Winter Wonderland M&G and the photopass set up for it all. I guess he had overheard DH pointing out some hidden Mickeys in the lights and asked Kendall if she was up for an even bigger challenge. Now finding hidden Mickeys is fun and all, but he wanted her to go off an look for a large purple cat that was well hidden somewhere in the Osborne lights. So you're probably thinking - purple cat in Christmas decorations? huh? Well, back in 1995- Jennings Osborne had all of his holiday display delivered to Disney. The people at Disney were sorting through everything and in the middle of all of the holiday decor they found this large purple cat. Well, the purple cat was one of Jennings Osborne's Halloween decorations, so they reached out to him to find out how to get it back to him. He instead told them to keep the cat and find a way to work it into the holiday lights display. So, every year since 1995, this big purple cat finds its way into the Osborne Lights, but it's hidden. So, the challenge each year is to find where they've hidden the purple cat this time.

Ok, so I'm like - VERY COOL! And Kendall is gung ho- totally wanting to find this hidden purple cat. The CM told us he was in a much easier location this year, but part of me is wondering if that was for Kendall's benefit. i.e. make her feel more confident that she can rise to the challenge. So, we head off in search of this purple cat and Goofy takes the stage over at the M&G.

The first thing we found was the Arkansas razorback...

...not a purple cat, but still pretty cool.

When you consider the number of lights and structures in there...it really felt like we were looking for a needle in a haystack...so we decided to approach it fairly casually...just heading up and down each area, taking more pics, looking for more Mickeys, and hoping finding that darn cat!

At least there are plenty of Mickeys to keep the girls interested in the hunt...

Wish I had a toy soldier like this outside my door!

This was one of our fave hidden Mickeys...

Basketball anyone?

Woohoo- the Merry Christmas is now lighting up!

More Mickeys...

More of the green tree!!!

It was about this time that Feliz Navidad came on. Now I don't know what it was, but this time singing wasn't enough. No, singing AND dancing was called for. So, here we are dancing and singing to Feliz Navidad in the middle of the Osborne Lights.

We may have looked a little silly, but ya know what- I don't care! We had a BLAST! Seriously love moments like that with the girls.

Love "Weird NJ." It's been some time since I've been on their website though. It used to be organized by county and really easy to find all of the creepy and crazy things. In saying that, you also reminded me of the other NJ fixture that made me worry about the clown in Luna Park. Not sure if you've ever seen or heard of the Evil Clown of Middletown ---> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_Clown_of_Middletown It wasn't until several years ago when I saw it on Weird NJ's site that I discovered that I wasn't the only one with a deep fear of this clown. My mom's parents lived pretty close to it and we'd sometimes pass it when going shopping. eeeeek!!!!
I've only seen it in the magazine. Never seen it in person, but it looks super evil and creepy!

After the dancing, we went on about our Mickey and cat hunting...and not soon after, we spot a Mickey.

And an itty bitty Mickey...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231570650/]

It was around this time that I noticed a section up the street that seemed to have an overabundance of purple lights. So on a hunch, I took off with Kendall while Sammie stayed behind with DH. I didn't tell Kendall what I'd seen - just told her I thought we should keep on looking for the cat. And wouldn't you know it- that cat was in there. I saw it first, but looked away and pretended to be distracted by something. A second or two passed and then I felt Kendall's hand tug on my shirt- she starts jumping up and down screaming "THE PURPLE CAT! THE PURPLE CAT! I FOUND THE PURPLE CAT!!!"

She sure did!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231565218/]

Next she ran to tell DH and drag him and Sammie over to see it. It was just so awesome to see her feeling this accomplished. And she made a point of noting how it was tough finding it, but she never gave up. She attracted a lot of attention with her find too...lots of people were stopping by to see what this little girl was so excited about...and most just didn't get it, but smiled nicely and went about their business.

So, now we're just kind of hanging out trying to figure out what to do - and of course, I keep taking pictures.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230499793/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230497221/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231557590/]

Then it hits us...we forgot to get hot cocoa. So, I guess it was Writer's Stop that DH ran into to get it. The place was mobbed, but he got to move right to the front of the line because he was the only one in there for just hot cocoa. And man- Disney makes some really fine hot cocoa!!!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230493309/]

Now, finding the cat was not enough for Kendall...she wanted to make sure the CM who told her about the cat knew she'd found it. So, we take a nice walk back to that area and search for more hidden Mickeys along the way.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230490405/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231551596/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230484309/]

The M&G was in full swing by the time we got back to the CM and he looked pretty busy, but we waited for a moment where he seemed to be "less involved." He was just so wonderful- he wanted to hear all about it from Kendall...where she went, how she found it, where she found it, etc. One of the other CMs helping with the M&G also joined the conversation and boosted Kendall's ego some more by telling her she's been looking for over a week and still hasn't found the purple cat.

So, really...who knew a purple cat would be one of the most incredible experiences of this trip!

So, we clearly made the most of our time in the Osborne Lights, but it was time to head "home." We had a really early day on the horizon ... one that would require a little more prep than normal. Sooooo, we head for the exit...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231543180/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232065138/]

Most of these pics are a blur as I'm exhausted and I'm using my non-IS lens. Still, DH let me stop to try and get a pic of the crescent moon rising above the sorcerer's hat. I took 3 pics...all looked OK in my display...but clearly, I just didn't have the settings right and couldn't be still enough.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231001837/]

I took this pic out of frustration.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230999691/]

There was a group assembled in front of the store and every time I thought I could get the whole line of these...someone would move in front. So, I just took this pic above. The best part though...they asked me to take a pic of them and as soon as I did...they all moved on. So, I got my pic after all.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230998443/]

We made a stop at the restroom on the way out...since no telling how long we'd wait for a boat. And yes, I took pics while waiting on DH.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232059484/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232057598/]

And finally time to head out...for some blurry tree pics!!!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230992203/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230989163/]

So, we get to the dock and once again- ducks serve as entertainment. The family behind us had held onto some food and were feeding the ducks as we waited for the boat. Like I said- the girls were entertained.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232050288/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230809823/]

We had to wait on the second boat...and got to see this scene a bit longer than I would have liked...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230808711/]

But- soon after, the boat arrived and we waved farewell to DHS.

DAY 4 - MK, How I Love Thee

Now I don't mean to take anything from DHS...it's a great park and all and I could never see skipping it on a trip, BUT...my heart belongs to the Magic Kingdom.

When I'd originally planned this day, the park was set to open at 9am...so naturally, when booking BBB on day 180, I booked the 8am for both girls. Then this all changed when they started messing with park hours for FLE passholder previews. So, my wonderful 8am appointments would now coincide with the new 8am park opening. There was nothing I could do except roll with the punches and hope that my hunch that it wouldn't make a huge difference panned out.

We had to wake up a little bit early because getting the girls into princess gear takes a tad longer. I also wanted one last chance to try and brush out any knots...especially in Kendall's thick head of hair. I don't remember exactly what time we got out, but it was early...shortly after 7am. At least we had a plan B (my vehicle) if the bus service turned out to be a problem. Thankfully, it was less than a 5 min wait for a bus...

It was also kind of funny because one man in the family out there with us waiting had a Syracuse shirt on. Turns out they live in the area...so we had a nice talk about my time living up there for school. We'd also run into them later on that morning...wound up right behind us on Peter Pan. Just love meeting nice people at The World!

So, we arrive and I'm kind of nervous because there are a number of people there...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230954207/]

If you've ever done anything pre-park opening at MK, you know this is a lot of people for before 8am. Yea- I know the park opening had been bumped up and this was more of a light crowd for 9am, but still.

So, we made our way through the first hurdle...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232016368/]

...and I took some pics as I waited for my bag to be checked.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230952543/]

Once in line, I started taking pics again.

Contemporary by day...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232014216/]

I was actually having one of those super reflective moments with this one. I was thinking of how long I'd waited for that dinner and the cake at Cali Grill and how fleeting it all is...just shocked that it's already a memory at that point and that the seemingly endless wait to get into MK that we were currently experiencing would be a blip and gone before we knew it. I know...sad, but in some ways it makes you appreciate it more when you can stop in the moment and think about it.

Monorail!
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230949309/]

Crowd in front of us...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232010328/]

It was around this time that Kendall noticed an Oswald beanbag plush in a nearby girl's bag. She has become obsessed with him...and the girl thought it was adorable that Kendall was so excited about him. Little does she know that Santa is bringing her the same beanbag toy.

Sleepy princess Sammie...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232009294/]

Actually, she's cold. It was pretty chilly and princess dresses aren't very warm. Kendall's dress at least has sleeves, but both girls spent time in and out of their heavy coats.

In, but still waiting to be let in the rest of the way...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230945205/]

Everyone else just waiting to get into the park...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232007152/]

Love the natural trees...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232006234/]

A little windy too...
[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230942299/]

And finally- we're in!!!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230941265/]

It is kind of strange to see this area without the tree, but still love seeing all of the other decorations.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231999940/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230935751/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230932119/]

We'd had our fun looking at the decorations, but it was time to make that turn...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231994460/]

And there she is!!!!!!!!!!!! Castle- beautiful-Castle!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230930225/]

Now, I don't normally get all emotional at this point. I usually just get a big smile and start walking towards it like it's a big homing beacon...but not this trip. Yup...waterworks! I even stopped in my tracks for a second. Thankfully, DH didn't notice, but still- amazing that it hit me like this for this trip. I attribute it to all of the issues of the past year or so. We had one of those years where just so many crazy insane bad things happened...and every time you foolishly thought "Whew, I think things are getting back to normal" even something more catastrophic or crazy would happen. So, I take my teary reaction as my brain's way of saying "you really needed the magic after this past year."

OK- back to happy. I just love all of the little things in MK as the park is opening.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230925529/]

And now our destination is close up and in full sight...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230924087/]

There were too many people waiting for photos in front of the Partners statue that we just decided to skip that. So, I turned around to get some pics of MSUSA and other decorations before heading up for our appointment.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231986378/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231985530/]

Now that we were so close, the castle's homing beacon effect was now in full force, drawing me in...

Now, I know this is not an actual light fixture, but the beauty here is created by lights. Just love the lighting here...

I guess this lone CM here is also our sign that the park is not officially open yet either...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231980272/]

And now back to taking pics of lights...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230916463/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231978432/]

Now, last time we did BBB it was about 10am...so the boutique was in full swing by the time we arrived. My friend did the 8am at BBB with her girls last December and I asked her if anything was different and she said nothing beyond being in the park when it's empty. So, I wasn't expecting more than the door opening once they were ready for us. Well, our experience was not that...which is a good thing!

First off, the Cindy banner on the door isn't visible before it's officially open. So here we are waiting in front of this unmarked door...like we're trying to get into some kind of secret society or something. When it was time for it to open, a couple of CMs met us at the door.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231976884/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230913013/]

So, they had this whole little ceremony for the girls to open up the place. Essentially, they had to knock on the door and say the magic words to make the door open. Considering the name of the place...I think you can probably guess what those magic words were.

And voila, the door has opened...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230912103/]

And look- I'm already taking pics of lights!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231973560/]

...and other stuff too!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230909663/]

Then I noticed...Houston- We've got a problem!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231970262/]

I don't know what it was, but she just looked sooooooooo sad. Even though this whole thing was a surprise, some time ago I'd asked her if she'd rather be a princess or a pirate when she goes back to WDW and she picked princess...but now I was wondering if I should have gone against that and gone for Pirate's League.

She seemed a little more interested once she got into the chair and started picking from hair styles...

Kendall on the other hand is totally at ease and loving the pampering.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230984371/]

Kendall is also predictable. She got the bun last time and she's still little miss classic princess, so she went for the bun again this time. Sammie on the other hand...well, her fairy godmother in training asked for my approval before moving forward with Sammie's hair. I had a feeling I knew which one she'd picked, but I just smiled and said "whatever she wants." There were more smiles and happy faces after that.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230983857/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230900001/]

Every now and then, Kendall would also look over to Sammie- just these sweet reassuring looks...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232046380/]

I was just happy to see them both enjoying it...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231958250/]

Although, I have to admit that there's a part of me that wanted to leave Sammie like this. She just looked like princess puppy with big floppy puppy ears.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230982489/]

What's really crazy is that Sammie's hair is maybe 1/3 done at best...whereas Kendall is pretty close to done!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230982009/]

Now, while Sammie had a really good fairy godmother in training, Kendall's was total entertainment. I mean, she talked to K about all of the princesses, in depth discussions about the crowns in the room, and so on. Still- this was my single favorite part...something that did not happen last time...even though it's the exact same style. She took this long section of hair that gets sort of wrapped and tucked to create the bun...but before doing all of that, she smoothed it out and stood it up on top of Kendall's head. During the process, she was announcing to the whole room that she was doing the unicorn test with princess Kendall...and that only the truest of princess could have hair that would pass such a test. And then she let go to see if it would stand up straight on its own like a unicorn horn.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232042384/]

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8230886657/]

Needless to say, she passed the test.

***Alright folks...I'm calling it a night. Sorry, I was hoping to finish BBB tonight, but there's just so many pics and little details, that it's going to have to wait. I should be posting more on Sunday! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Yeah, DH made it a point to note all of those times that Arkansas messed up the Horns' seasons. I just kept going, "but it's a crazy pig- in lights!!!"

I had a feeling people would see the purple cat in the title and think Cheshire Cat. Now I do LOVE the Cheshire Cat and he does get a mention or two in the evening portion of the day I'm writing on now. Still, very cool to learn something new about the lights and have that CM add an aspect to the evening and the lights that I never could have anticipated. It also kind of hit home for me because I don't think I've ever met holiday lights I didn't like. In fact, as a nod to the purple cat...I took my halloween lights and found a place in my Chirstmas display for them. :)

Ok- so, starting back up...

I'd previously noted all of the crowns in BBB...

All in all, it's just fun watching the girls get pampered and enjoy themselves...especially Sammie since she's so easygoing. I mean, I know Kendall is going to love something like this and totally fall into this little princess role (which is fun to watch too), but when you have that child who can be so low maintenance and often let's Kendall take the spotlight because she's so agreeable...well, it's nice to see her get her turn too.

Priceless...

And daddy is happy to see her looking happy in this too...

Kendall is making a wish as she's about to be sprinkled in pixie dust...

They even told her that a new star had appeared just for her on the ceiling so she could make her wish...

And finally we have it...princess Kendall...

...and she's thrilled to see she has a hidden Mickey on her head!

Now, my only issue here...and it's petty...is that they gave Kendall a personalized birthday button. They saw her original button that was the basic "I'm Celebrating" - and had asked what she was celebrating. She was supposed to say that she was celebrating Sammie's birthday, but she said she was also celebrating hers. With Kendall being so tiny and Sammie being so close to her in height- we got a lot of "are they fraternal twins?" I just don't like when Kendall tries to take advantage of it. Call me mean mommy, but I had her switch back to her regular button after a while because this was not her birthday trip and Sammie didn't get the luxury of wearing a birthday button when it was Kendall's birthday trip.

So, now Kendall is done, but Sammie still has a ways to go...but, you can get an idea of where we're headed with her...

Let me just tell you moms and dads (and other interested parties)...this thing is REALLY tough to get out of your child's hair.

And with it being time consuming as well, she started looking a little sad again as well, but we managed to extract a few little smiles...

She was a trooper though and before ya knew it, it was pixie dust time. What's funny, she really took it to heart about shielding her face from the dust...

She had her little nose squashed on there the whole time.

And finally, the finished product!!! And a happy princess!!!

I was also very happy that they got Sammie a new birthday button. The one YC put together was done with a Sharpie right on the button. You could barely read them and they were almost completely rubbed off by this point. So, now Sammie had a birthday button to last the rest of the trip.

As Sammie was hitting the finishing stages, we got a surprise visitor in BBB. And I guess it's fitting, since everyone in the BBB is pretty much a fairy godmother in training, this location is in the Cinderella Castle, and there are little nods to Cindy like this...

That's right, we got a visit from the Fairy Godmother herself...which you probably guessed from my avatar. Now, I'm sure this isn't a first, but I also know it doesn't happen every time since my good friend had an 8am for two of her girls last year and she said there was no Fairy Godmother visit. Well, the Fairy Godmother went girl to girl chatting, taking pics, and checking out the work that the "trainee fairy godmothers" were doing. It was just so adorable since it was like everyone in the whole place went into overdrive just pumping up the whole experience.

Kendall and Sammie were last, but that worked out in our favor because we seemed to get a little extra time. She met with Kendall first...

Then she jumped in with Sammie as soon as Sammie had finished...

And when she found out they were sisters, it became this "thing." I mean, it was photo extravaganza between me and the Photopass photogs in there. But- in the end, you get my avatar pic out of it...

All in all, they had a nice little conversation...

...and she was on her way.

Now a funny side note, everyone who saw our pics was like...OMG, is that Paula Deen?!?!?!? I guess the girls could have asked her for some butter when making their wish!

All in all, it was such a wonderful experience this time. Both of our fairy godmothers in training were totally in character making it more than just a princess makeover and the Fairy Godmother visit was that unexpected magic that just put it so far over the top. What's funny, shortly after we left...someone saw the girls and alerted us that the Fairy Godmother was right by the castle...she just thought the girls should meet her since they'd just received some serious "princessification." Love how perfect strangers jump in and spread the magic! I mean, even if we'd already seen her...I really appreciate the gesture.

So, we leave the Castle to figure out the whole "what to do first?" dilemma.

This really was not what I was expecting to be our first adventure...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231196107/]

I opted to run over to Peter Pan to grab some FastPasses. We had some serious time to burn, so we headed back the other way and moved on past the lovely construction...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231194919/]

...honestly, all I could think was that in 2 days I'd be in there and trying it all. Was SOOOOOOOO excited, but had to focus on today...and we headed to Winnie the Pooh.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231193943/]

I love the interactive queue, but sometimes I wonder if I'll ever get them out of all of the fun things to actually go on the ride...

When all else fails, insist they follow the well marked signs...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232248804/]

I do always enjoy being on line with people who don't realize there are images under the "hunny," because you see that lightbulb go off and typically everyone in the party starts going crazy wiping away the hunny to see what's underneath.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232243838/]

Before you know it, it's almost time to board the ride...

Now I always find it pretty challenging to take photos on rides like this...still, I try.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232239062/]

Of course, the ride broke down at the end for us in the very last scene. That always makes it a tad easier to take pics...

So, we're sitting on this broken down ride...

...and it's not too bad at first...but then we're waiting...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232230226/]

...and waiting...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231165251/]

...and waiting some more.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231164229/]

Needless to say, we're not happy and poor Sammie is talking about not liking broken rides. I try taking random pics, but there are only so many things to photograph in the little area...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232235538/]

...and there's not enough continuous text for us to try and read the story (never thought that would be an issue!).

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231163241/]

Then, they come over the PA system to tell us to stay put and that they'd be evacuating the ride. I guess at least we were at the very end of the ride and wouldn't have far to go (although it also meant we were some of the last people evacuated). Still, we are being set free!!!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232236486/]

We were also given these on the way out...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231162299/]

And a little side story with these...I was tired and just happy to get off the ride. So, when we were being offered the fastpasses, I thought they were just for Pooh...so I said that's OK and that we'd gotten through pretty much the entire ride. DH- smart guy that he is- chimes in and says "we'll take them!!!" It was at this point that I'd realized that they were good until November 30th and were for nearly anything in MK. Considering it was Nov 18th and we'd be back in the park again on the 20th...I'm pretty happy DH had some sense in my moment of stupidity. ALWAYS say yes when a CM offers you something...a lesson I know, but should really remind myself of when tired!

Sadly, broken down rides would be our issue today. It's like our TSMM issue followed us into the next day and multiplied.

Next we move on to try some new old stuff...

Kendall was actually pretty crushed that all of this had been changed. She hadn't gotten enough time in Minnie's house back in 2010 and was heartbroken that it was no more. She had asked about it in 2011 and we tried to tell her it was being taken out, but I don't think it sunk in until she was actually able to go back into the area this trip. She was a little more vocal than I'd anticipated about this, but we entered anyway since we were pretty sure she'd get over it enough to have fun...

So, we naturally went to see the flying elephants!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8231158335/]

There seriously was no crowd here. I was thinking we might get to see the kids play inside a bit, but when given the choice to play or ride...the girls wanted to skip the whole play area. So this is the only pic I got as we zipped through that area...

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/houcusechickie/8232219082/]

And next thing you know...we're out there and in the next group to board Dumbo. So, I just took the time taking pics of the details.

I may get skewered for saying it, but I really love everything they've done with the refurb of the ride. It took something so classic and not only made it more efficient, but it's stunning.

And before you know it, we've boarded our Dumbo and are ready for flight...

What a great story at BBB! I love how THE Fairy Godmother checked on her Godmother's in training. And Sammie's hairstyle had some WOW factor! ;) I feel Kendall's pain about Minnie's house being gone. My daughter never got to see it and was so upset when we found out it was gone. She loves Minnie and has seen pics of me when I was a little girl in front of Minnie's house. I told her that Minnie was tired of living in that house and wanted to spend more time with the princesses so they built more castles, lol.
