important things to carry-on?

a little over 3 weeks to go!
I'm starting to think about what to pack--especially what to carry-on vs. what to pack in checked bags.
Here's what I have so far for carry-on items:
MNSSHP tickets
sunblock (less than 3oz bottle, per TSA rules)
1 change of clothes, swimsuit
camera
video camera
laptop (need to be able to offload pictures...)
3 or 4 pull-ups (for my youngest who needs them when he sleeps)
spreadsheet showing dining plans, etc.
cell phones
medications

There are some things that you just can't afford to lose (MNSSHP ticks, camera, etc.), and some things that you might want if you have to live without luggage because it is lost or something (change of clothes, pull-ups). I'm having trouble coming up with anything else right now... Do you guys have any other suggestions for things that should be taken as a carry-on?

If you are using Disney's Magical Express, but sure to include those vouchers also.
We learned that last summer!
We packed ours by mistake in our check in luggage.
With a little help for the WDW staff, we were able to board the DME w/ no problems though.
By the way, when is your trip?
We are going 9/8-9/16.
We are staying at Pop.
:D

If you're using Disney Magical Express then I would recommend at least one extra clothing in case if your luggage doesn't arrive to your hotel around 11pm to 12am!!!

Yeah, if you're getting in in the evening, you may want to bring pajamas, just in case the ME takes a long time with your luggage. Otherwise, besides an iPod or book, maybe some snacks for the airport :~)

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to add that to the list.
We're going 9/11-9/22, Staying at POR. Will be first time for the kids to be on-site (8,6,4), and our first time at a moderate (POR was the cheapest choice we had for 5 people--besides a tent!). My wife and I stayed onsite at ASM in 1998.
I am SO READY to go...

Our plane arrives at MCO at about 11AM. So, we shouldn't have a problem with the luggage (unless it's completely lost). Some PJ's might not be a bad idea, though...

If anyone in your party wears contacts, you'll need those supplies and your glasses for when you take out your contacts. I hate not being able to see.

PS: The travel size bottles of contact solution are allowed in you plastic baggie because it is considered a medication

How old is the little one and have they flown before? I was a nanny for twins and was w/ them on their 1st flight when they were 3. We were concerned about their ears, so we carried on a few of the little Dum-Dum lollipops...to get them to swallow. We didn't give 'em to them until they started complaining about their ears hurting, and it seemed to work. They NEVER got lollipops so it ended up being a great distraction too. :)

Really?? I didn't know that, I've always checked it because even the travel size is over the limit. Last time they lost our bag so I had to use rewetting drops to put them in the next morning. :hammer:
Thanks for the tip for next time! :)

We stayed at POR last summer - it was great!
There are 5 people in our family too - kids ages 9, 7 & 5. :D
My in-laws are meeting us there this year.
Have your kids ever done the Pirate Cruise at the Grand Floridian Resort?
Mine are doing it again for the 2nd time in Sept.
If you have girl(s), the Princess Tea Party at the Grand Floridian Resort is nice - my DD went last year - I am taking her to Cinderella's Royal Table this year. :king:

Yes, I wear them...I am taking an extra pair of the disposable kind in my carry-on.
I would hate for something to happen to the ones I was wearing & I couldn't see at WDW!

Also, be cautious if any of your meds are liquid. My cousin's wife had to toss her prescription cough syrup (she was just getting over a horrible, croupy cold) for the airplane because it was liquid. Even though it was prescription she wasn't allowed to keep it. She winged it with cough drops but the prescription stuff woulda been better for restful sleep. :)

Also, if for any reason you have a contacts emergency, there is a Walmart not far from the property. Same cousin had a contact rip and she had forgotten her glasses and extra contacts at home. Her prescription was from a Walmart Eye Care Center. We were able to do some quick calling, some faxes were exchanged, and we were able to pick up new contacts for her in a pinch. But juuuuust in case, there are always solutions to whatever pops up!

Have fun!!!!

Thanks, you guys--some good ideas here. We will have to remember some sort of Candy for the kids on the plane.

We don't get to frequent WDW as much as some on this board. This will be our 2nd trip in 2 years, and our 3rd trip in 10 years... So, no, they haven't done the cruise--or much else, for that matter. I'm sure they'd think it's cool.

I have two girls and one boy. We'll all be eating breakfast at the castle one day this trip. I think my boy will be about as excited as the girls.

The tea party sounds fun, too... probably all booked up at this point.

Hope you guys have fun!

My rule of thumb is to carry on whatever it takes for you to be healthy and happy for 24 hrs. On your list I didn't see food and water but I don't board without it. You have to buy the water past security, but I would definitely do that. I also take granola bars. I have an irrational fear of being stuck on a plane with no food and water. All those horror stories of stuck people haven't helped!

In my backpack:
Water
Granola bars
MP3 player
book to read
Sunglasses
Phone charger
Laptop cord
Small, handheld personal fan
Camera and batteries
Small first aid kit - mostly bandaids an ibuprofen
Sweater (or a pashmina shawl which works great as a light cover)
Travel pillow
Folder with all paperwork - tickets, vouchers, maps, boarding passes etc
Change of clothes (usually not pants - I can re-wear a pair of jeans)

My quart size bag has small sizes of:
Shampoo
Toothpaste
Deoderant
Hand cream
Hand sanitizer
Eyeglasses cleaner
Sunscreen
Face cream
Makeup foundation

Be sure all kids have ID that has your cellphone # on it
