The Ocean

Next to Dinoland U.S.A. will be a look back a prehistoric creatures of the deep, as well as mythical stops along the way. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea is removed from the Magic Kingdom and placed in this new land, along with a dark ride through the ocean to explore its different regions.
Really like the transition of 20K over to Animal Kingdom, and the ties to prehistoric animals (something SeaWorld doesn't really cover) Though that is my one caution about this is SeaWorld itself. I guess with the Living Seas it shows that both can coexisit, but also given the Living Seas is why I'm cautious about putting more aquatic themes into DAK. A great thought, I'd love to hear more about it though. :)

Thank you again for your contributions to the contest - glad to see you back!:D

New land at Disney's Animal Kingdom - October 1999
Forest of Illusions
Located to the right of Asia and above Dinoland (where Expedition Everest currently lies) you will step into the nightmarish world where all of your worst nightmares lie together in an abandoned seaport port town called, Phryre, themed along The Alaska Mountain Range -- animals will be in the entrances of the land in their natural looking forest habitats which will be: wood-bison, moose, and grizzly bears; this will be able to transport you from the real world to a mythical abandoned seaport much more smoothly.

Once you enter the main land, abandoned sailing ships from the mid-1800s line the port's shore as well as Pine Trees-- Legend has it that ghostly fire spirits that belong to the men lost in mines in the mountain come out at night and set fire to ships coming into port, and at the town's thriving peak once it set the town on fire, so it became abandoned; thus the name Phyre (which means one who burns brightly) -- the land will have custom area music, hidden details & interactive elements to help further show the 1800s ghost town.

Arguably one of the best rides in Disney history will be coming to this land: "Escape The Forest," the ride's story will have two slightly different stories, one from 10am to 6pm and the second anytime before 10am and anytime after 6pm -- this is to give a reason for people to come earlier and later as midday the ride's riders per hour can be slightly increased by removing a few effects, and to make it more 'scary' in the darker hours effects that restrain capacity will be added.

The plot of the ride is you are a detective 5 years after the city's great fire in the late-1800's, and you must investigate to figure out what happened; in the line you start at one of the town's saloons, and wander through it until you enter the loading area, which is outside and is a dock along Discovery River; riders are arranged 3 across with 6 rows, with 3 boats loading at once; then from there you go through the forest, seeing real animals like Moose and Bison, and then up a lift hill which leads you to the caverns of the spirits -- you watch the spirits do crazy things like appear and vanish before your eyes, but in the end they force you to leave them when they attempt to set your boat fire and to escape it you go down a climactic 80 foot waterfall drop at the end, but the boats go on a track then and that happens in complete darkness, so you actually don't get wet like Splash Mountain or Kali.

A d-ticket indoor train/dark ride will also be created called "The Railway of The Spirits", which will take you from the railroad station of the town through some forests and into a part of the caverns, the spirits hijack your train and the track switches to change your direction, and with no height requirement this ride will have a huge capacity with 3-cars per train each containing 6 rows that can hold up to four people; the ride will have a roof, but the sides will be open air and the ride will have partial simulator feelings like slight tilts and bounces not to mention it can be operated in the rain -- to conclude, this land will be the first part of the park that brings mythical creatures to the park, all the while having real animals, and adding a flair of the Americas.

(this will be the backdrop of the land, with Escape The Forest's cavern parts inside; it will be 199.5 feet tall like Everest)
ghost-towns-0-featured-kennecott-alaska-740x360.jpg

(style of the land, but the caverns of the rides will have more of a Nightmare Before Christmas style and at night the land will have high tech lighting and screen effects to make it feel very ghost like on the exterior of the buildings, and even the real trees will glow creepishly)
Gotta say, your last two projects have been probably two of the best in the entire competition. Great attention to detail, great premise, overall scope and scale. I really enjoy the train ride, I'm a big fan of trains, so in a theme park I just think that style fits very well with a dark ride/slow family attraction.

Overall, it's great - though I must be fair to everyone (and yes I may be a stickler McGee on this:p) so I apologize in advance, but with the captions under the pictures it goes over 5 sentences. Now, I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt, but to be fair to everyone it may cost gold, we shall see....:bookworm:

But nevertheless, another fantastic concept!

New Dawn

This land in Animal Kingdom focuses on an era of adaptation often overshadowed by the Jurassic: the time when mammals inherited the Earth after the dinosaurs went extinct and eventually led to modern-day mammals, including man.

The E-ticket ride, "Asteroid! - Witness The New Dawn," a grand dark ride in the tradition of Spaceship Earth and New Horizons, will let guests ride through not just the moment the asteroid hit Earth (imagine the effects!) and the immediate demise of the dinosaurs near it, but also the following period where the rest of the dinosaurs died out more slowly and/or adapted to become modern birds and reptiles, while somewhat familiar-looking mammals such as eohippus, an early horse about the size of a dog, and leptictidium, a sort of kangaroo-rat, began to thrive and take over the world.

Two other attractions will include a virtual safari, in which guests ride vehicles through foliage representative of the time period with animatronic reproductions of the early mammals interspersed with some cgi scenes of those animals on screens, and a 3-D theater experience with a lighthearted animated film showing an early human child interacting positively with a woolly mammoth (think retro-Jungle Book.)

The gift shop will feature so many unique items you'd never find at Toys R Us, as none of these creatures are licensed, and who wouldn't want to take home a stuffed eohippus?

For dining, there's a quick service raw bar, there's "The Fire Pit" with hand-foods like the turkey leg and pork shank, and a casual sit-down restaurant designed to look like it's inside a huge cave, with stone tables and a credibly primal-themed menu.
Very interesting choice here!

The E-ticket is by far my favorite part, as I love how it blends a slow dark ride such as Spaceship Earth into Animal Kingdom (something I've always thought that DAK was missing!)

The virtual safari was cool as well, showing some of the effects, though given the cgi of 1999, I think it might be outdated in 10 years, so that is something to consider. Overall, a very inspired choice Tony!

The Polar Ice

full

In 1998, Animal Kingdom has a plethora of animals ranging from some of the largest land animals, to the most agile of birds, to the smallest of insects, but these are all warm weather representations of the animal kingdom and therefore a gaping hole needs to be filled and that is what this new land, The Polar Ice, will do with an E Ticket ride, a dark ride, 1 table service venue, 1 quick service location, several snack carts, a walking experience with no less than 12 animal exhibits, and will also emphasize the melting polar regions and how that is effecting the wildlife there and what we can do to help.

Guests will enter an international research facility and be greeted by large windows and an overhead dome (screens) that show the frozen tundra outside with snow storms and animals wandering by before heading to either of the feature attractions: Kotick’s Quest, a dark ride that retells the story of the white seal’s adventures to find a new home for the seals away from greedy and uncaring men or to the E ticket ride through the wonders of the frozen north pass towering glaciers that calve practically on top of guests, to underground ice caverns, down rushing rivers between converging glaciers, and ending under the aurora borealis among the native wildlife.

Tundra Trek will take guests “outside” to explore the wildlife of both the arctic and Antarctic ice fields featuring otters, wolverines, foxes, wolves, caribou, reindeer, musk ox, before diving below to view the underwater exhibits of the beluga whales, polar bears, walruses, several species of seals, and varying types of penguins and puffins; and while the majority of the animal exhibits will be indoors to accommodate the cold temperatures (which guests will certainly appreciate during the hotter days), some exhibits (polar bears, beluga whales, and certain penguins) will have both indoor and outdoor enclosures with connecting spaces to allow the animals the freedom of movement from outdoor to indoor as they desire.

Of the dinning locations, the quick service location is modeled after the researcher’s cafeteria complete with long lunch tables where everyone can sit together (to conserve heat) and view migration charts of the polar animals, photographs and identification of the many glaciers, and other small details that show this facility is lived in, but the table service is located “outside” where guests enter through an ice tunnel and are lead to one of several different rooms that each have its own entertainment (the aurora borealis shines overhead, a glacier calves, or ancient cave paintings come to life to name a few).

After a filling meal, guests can wander into the heart of the research facility to see scientific side of the polar ice caps through interactive exhibits, short films, and stories to help bring the issue of the melting ice caps to the forefront and accent the importance of this eroding environment to the many majestic animals that call the polar ice caps home.
Awesome job with this Figment!

This is something that I had hoped to see Angels perhaps expand upon, as that was ocean based, but this shifts that brilliant idea and makes it something of its own, especially in regard to the backstory of the international research center. I've always tried to compared DAk and Epcot in regards to the fact that they are not only beautiful parks, but also scientific research facilities as well, something that shouldn't go unnoticed.

Everything in the area seems like it would fit in a respective area for a land. And it would definitely change the landscape of DAK (I think for the better) adding more snowy peaks and ice.

Overall, great job!

Prompt 8 - October 1999

The Old World -

EU-2010-1721.jpg

Instead of being based off a continent, the newest land to Animal Kingdom would be based off a specific time period; specifically the medieval ages where guests would be able to visit a medieval village thrown into the middle of a magical forest surrounded by mythical beasts.
There will be two attractions: The Quest for the Unicorn, is an engaging dark ride where riders are set on a quest to find the last unicorn; the other attraction is an indoor roller coaster known as Wrath of the Dragon, where guests will be chased by a vicious fire breathing dragon all the while going through inversions and steep drops.
There will be two restaurants, and three shops; each of those locations will be in the main village while the two attractions are in a woods type setting, within these woods will be various mythical animals on different trails to really immerse the guests.

Flash Forward 2005: Thanks to an agreement between JK Rowling and Michael Eisner, The Old World will become a land based the Wizarding World of Harry Potter; the village will be expanded and remade to look like Hogsmeade, and the woods will become the Forbidden Forest.
The Quest for the Unicorn will become a ride where guests take Care of Magical Creatures in which guests which guests will journey with Hagrid deeper into the forest as they experience magical beasts; Wrath of the Dragon will be turned into a ride where guests are drawn into the Tri-Wizard tournamet and must face the Dragon Challenge; lastly guests will be able to ride an interactive ride where, using there very own wands will use magic spells to fight off dementors, death eaters, spiders, and many more sinister beings!
I could see the News and Rumors in 2005 literally imploding over this :hilarious:

Harry Potter in Animal Kingdom...get the pitchforks...Harry Potter won't be good...(all many years before the attractions are even built because apparently some have psychic abilities to see the future)

Moving on...:p

I think focusing on the mythical elements of Harry Potter would be a good thing, though would the castle be built? Hogsmeade? Several elements in Harry Potter deal with Magical Creatures, but others don't, and in an animal inspired park, it would be tough to fit it all in...though maybe they could connect the Hogwarts Express to a land in Hollywood Studios with the castle, using the monorail footers that are scattered throughout WDW. :joyfull:

Nice work!

Bonus - Curse of the Lost Civilization
full

This season we have designed a hotel, enhanced a water park, redesigned a restaurant, and added new features to each of the theme parks and all that’s left is Disney Springs which is where Curse of the Lost Civilization will be station (replacing the outdated Disney Quest)to give guests the first truly immersive, interactive experience in Disney’s history.

The time is currently in the early 1930’s, guests enter into this self-contained facility in groups where they are led into one of three rooms where they are shown (using a projector and cast member exposition) the story of Lucy Venture, a member of the Society of Explorers and Adventurers, who has discovered this lost civilization, but who has also disappeared under mysterious circumstances, and it is your task not only to find Venture but also solve the mystery of what happened to the lost civilization before history is doomed to repeat itself by completing six quests (each increasing harder than the last).

After this introduction, a secret panel opens up into Base Camp Alpha where you receive a map to navigate six floors of towering ancient walls, secret passage ways, confusing mazes in your search to decode ancient languages, find forbidden treasure, and break the curse, but be warned: you will need all of your cunning to decipher this tale.

Through notes left behind Venture and her colleagues, guests will comb through the Well of Wisdom, the Cavern of Curiosity, the Maze of Perseverance, the Chamber of Creativity, the Valley of Risk, and the Temple of Knowledge to find the clues left behind by the lost people, but make sure to leave no stone unturned for every symbol etched into the wall, every journal entry, every marking, and even the stars above means something even if it’s not immediately recognizable.

This experience will be the pinnacle of Disney detail that guests have come to expect from the Disney brand, combining great characters into a multi-layered story that will keep guests coming back for years to keep solving these challenges because unlike other Disney experiences, the higher the quest number, the more complex the reasoning and problem solving needed to complete the riddles, physical sequences, and puzzles; and the prize-not only finding Venture and breaking the curse, but an honorary membership into the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.
Bonus (2021+) - Festivals and Concerts

DSC06452.JPG

In the quest to bring more people to Disney Springs, Disney has decided to move the Flower and Garden Festival along with the Food and Wine Festival to Disney Springs.
With the storyline for both festivals that the people of Disney Springs have been inspired, and are putting up a festival celebrating their culture and heritage.
DisneyQuest will be bulldozed, and in its place a large concert venue similar to the one that Universal has built.
Throughout the year Disney will offer guests opportunities to see concerts for free; some of these opportunists may be on holidays or on weekends during the festivals.
When the venue is not going to be used or prepped for a concert, a large screen is put up, and every Friday night a Disney movie will play for free!
All I will say for now after briefly scanning over these is...very creative thoughts! And kudos for doing the bonus challenge!:)

I can do more detailed responses later, but seeing as its 9:30 PM EST - I wanna make sure you all can see the results before its nighty night for us and beginning the work week:hungover::rolleyes:
