My bonus challenge: Develop an "elevator pitch" for re-purposing the “Leave a Legacy” monuments at Epcot.

Dreamer’s Workshop: The Legacy of Disney Imagineering

In 1999, WDW offered guests the opportunity to “Leave a Legacy” on granite megaliths in front of Spaceship Earth at Epcot, under an agreement permitting an eventual moving of them. I’m suggesting relocating them to the entry of a NEW Future World pavilion (located between The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends) called Dreamer’s Workshop: The Legacy of Disney Imagineering – a walk-through experience, filled with exhibits/videos from former Epcot attractions, thus allowing us to re-experience those memories we all loved while at the same time celebrating the work of Disney Imagineers. Enter the pavilion listening to the music of Epcot Center, as we walk past a full-scale mock-up of the desert farm from Horizons and smell the oranges (deep breath), then view Horizons' Omnimax movie, behold the Magic Palette from the original Journey Into Imaginations, walk past vignettes from World of Motion, or watch Kitchen Kabaret’s Veggies and Fruits strut their stuff. Wouldn't it be great to board “hydrolators” once again, or pass through Imagination’s rainbow light corridor, on our way to watching videos of the opening from The Living Seas, or Ellen competing on Energy Jeopardy? Finally, interspersed throughout the pavilion are models, plans and renderings from the original Epcot designs, in further celebration of Walt Disney Imagineers.

Petstacular

Let’s face it, many of us leave our own “animal kingdom” behind in the form of our pets when we visit Walt Disney World, so a big part of trip planning is arranging for the kennel or a sitter, which makes us think about those “other” members of our family when we vacation (who hasn’t pointed at those gophers popping their heads up in the Living With The Land boat ride because they remind you of the family cat or dog?). “Petstacular,” the newest land in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will grab the hearts and imagination of guests starting with great gift shops devoted entirely to pampering the family pet, including toys, collars, Mickey ears, treats, Disney-themed carriers, and a place where ooos, ahhhs and chuckles can be heard throughout the land. Meanwhile, a musical stage show hosted by Pluto and Marie from The Aritstocats, reminds us in song and dance how adorable they are, and just when we’re missing our furry creatures the most, Cruella DeVille makes an appearance putting our animal friends in jeopardy before a little Disney Magic saves the day. At “Going to the Dogs.” the land’s quick service dining spot, guests are served their grub in “Rover” style pet dishes, and cookies are in the shape of dog biscuits (hey, if people can get excited at the prospect of blue milk and galactic delicacies for Star Wars Land, why not?). Last, but not least, our E-ticket attraction, dubbed “Animal House,” owes its inspiration to the Haunted Mansion and Toy Story, as guests enter through the façade of a giant dog house and board omnimover ride vehicles in the shape of a comfy easy chair for a whimsical journey “back home” to see what kind of mischief their dog and cat might be getting into while the family is vacationing as we ride through the various rooms of a home, maybe even taking a peek in the attic to see what the mice have been up to, and for good measure we include the teen daughter’s pet iguana, a parrot that’s learned a few new words, rabbits who’ve multiplied in our absence, and a snake about to escape from an aquarium in the youngest son’s bedroom, while at the end of the ride guests are comforted when one of the now-well-behaved pets chooses to “ride home” with them (hint: not the snake!).

Prompt 8 - October 1999
is.php

Jumping ahead to 1999 - Disney's Animal Kingdom has a few amenities and experiences such as Dinosaur and Kilaminjaro Safari, however it needs something else to push it over the edge for years to come.

And as a refresher, in the One Sentence Contest, we've designed"
A hotel, dark ride, water ride, pavilion, restaurant, and refurbishment, a show, and finally -- a land!

The Challenge:
In this scenario, you must come up with an "elevator pitch" for a new land at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The trick this time however, is that the land cannot be based on a continent. And it can't be Beastly Kingdomme. It has to be your own creation - a land that fits with the spirit of Animal Kingdom and will be there for decades to come.

Like last round, you can include 1-5 sentences in your description. You may also include an image and music if it helps.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! Two more challenges to go, let's finish strong!

This project will be due on Saturday September 17th at 8 PM EST (but you can turn it in early if you wish!)

Good Luck and Have Fun Imagineers!:)

*With A Twist in Time - wdwmagic's newest imagineering competition, beginning soon - this will be the final challenge before we go on a break for a while. Don't worry - we will be back, and it was a pleasure having the privilege to host one of these episodes:oops: I appreciate it a lot!

To give back to all of you - for your own creative ideas - there is a bonus challenge as well. The bonus challenge can be anything you want. You make up the concept - and submit it. You can submit it before Saturday, or you can submit it whenever you have time during our break, just to give you total control and flexibility over a concept you may have - and also to keep us coming back to the One Sentence Contest and having fun reading each other's concepts!:D

Let's end this on a high note!:geek:
Can I request a change of due date to be pushed back one day? It's fine if you can't:D

New land at Disney's Animal Kingdom - October 1999
Forest of Illusions
Located to the right of Asia and above Dinoland (where Expedition Everest currently lies) you will step into the nightmarish world where all of your worst nightmares lie together in an abandoned seaport port town called, Phryre, themed along The Alaska Mountain Range -- animals will be in the entrances of the land in their natural looking forest habitats which will be: wood-bison, moose, and grizzly bears; this will be able to transport you from the real world to a mythical abandoned seaport much more smoothly.

Once you enter the main land, abandoned sailing ships from the mid-1800s line the port's shore as well as Pine Trees-- Legend has it that ghostly fire spirits that belong to the men lost in mines in the mountain come out at night and set fire to ships coming into port, and at the town's thriving peak once it set the town on fire, so it became abandoned; thus the name Phyre (which means one who burns brightly) -- the land will have custom area music, hidden details & interactive elements to help further show the 1800s ghost town.

Arguably one of the best rides in Disney history will be coming to this land: "Escape The Forest," the ride's story will have two slightly different stories, one from 10am to 6pm and the second anytime before 10am and anytime after 6pm -- this is to give a reason for people to come earlier and later as midday the ride's riders per hour can be slightly increased by removing a few effects, and to make it more 'scary' in the darker hours effects that restrain capacity will be added.

The plot of the ride is you are a detective 5 years after the city's great fire in the late-1800's, and you must investigate to figure out what happened; in the line you start at one of the town's saloons, and wander through it until you enter the loading area, which is outside and is a dock along Discovery River; riders are arranged 3 across with 6 rows, with 3 boats loading at once; then from there you go through the forest, seeing real animals like Moose and Bison, and then odd things start to happen and then the boat goes up a lift hill up the mountain which leads you to the caverns of the spirits -- you watch the spirits do crazy things like appear and vanish before your eyes, but in the end they force you to leave them when they attempt to set your boat fire and to escape it you go down a climactic 80 foot waterfall drop at the end, but the boats go on a track then and that happens in complete darkness, so you actually don't get wet like Splash Mountain or Kali, and on top of it all as you go back you go under bridges throughout the town to get back to the load/unload area.

A d-ticket indoor train/dark ride will also be created called "The Railway of The Spirits", which will take you from the railroad station of the town through some forests and into a part of the caverns, the spirits hijack your train and the track switches to change your direction, and with no height requirement this ride will have a huge capacity with 3-cars per train each containing 6 rows that can hold up to four people; the ride will have a roof, but the sides will be open air and the ride will have partial simulator feelings like slight tilts and bounces not to mention it can be operated in the rain -- to conclude, this land will be the first part of the park that brings mythical creatures to the park, all the while having real animals, and adding a flair of the Americas.

(this will be the backdrop of the land, with Escape The Forest's cavern parts inside; it will be 199.5 feet tall like Everest)
ghost-towns-0-featured-kennecott-alaska-740x360.jpg

(style of the land, but the caverns of the rides will have more of a Nightmare Before Christmas style and at night the land will have high tech lighting and screen effects to make it feel very ghost like on the exterior of the buildings, and even the real trees will glow creepishly)

Thankfully you delayed it though, so thanks so I can do the other one too:)
Sure! This is the final round before we take a break for the Twist in Time Competition run by tcool. So nothing is really being thrown off by an extension :)

Probably later on this fall we can pick it up again (maybe someone else would like to host it next time?:bookworm:) If you'd like to I don't mind:D

I'd gladly host! Though a disclaimer, I've never hosted a WDWMagic Competition before.

New Dawn

This land in Animal Kingdom focuses on an era of adaptation often overshadowed by the Jurassic: the time when mammals inherited the Earth after the dinosaurs went extinct and eventually led to modern-day mammals, including man.

The E-ticket ride, "Asteroid! - Witness The New Dawn," a grand dark ride in the tradition of Spaceship Earth and New Horizons, will let guests ride through not just the moment the asteroid hit Earth (imagine the effects!) and the immediate demise of the dinosaurs near it, but also the following period where the rest of the dinosaurs died out more slowly and/or adapted to become modern birds and reptiles, while somewhat familiar-looking mammals such as eohippus, an early horse about the size of a dog, and leptictidium, a sort of kangaroo-rat, began to thrive and take over the world.

Eohippus.jpg

Two other attractions will include a virtual safari, in which guests ride vehicles through foliage representative of the time period with animatronic reproductions of the early mammals interspersed with some cgi scenes of those animals on screens, and a 3-D theater experience with a lighthearted animated film showing an early human child interacting positively with a woolly mammoth (think retro-Jungle Book.)

The gift shop will feature so many unique items you'd never find at Toys R Us, as none of these creatures are licensed, and who wouldn't want to take home a stuffed eohippus?

For dining, there's a quick service raw bar, there's "The Fire Pit" with hand-foods like the turkey leg and pork shank, and a casual sit-down restaurant designed to look like it's inside a huge cave, with stone tables and a credibly primal-themed menu.
