ImagiNations Design Competition 2011

^ Yeah, they should. From my last email:

Once we finish the judging process, you will receive another email from us with your team’s final standing in the competition.

So it sounds like they'll email everyone regardless of how they did. Don't worry, I haven't gotten mine yet either. :ROFLOL:

Yeah, I haven't heard anything either. I hope this doesn't mean none of us made the finals...

"Finalist teams will be notified by April 22, 2011 and invited to Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California in early June 2011 to present their projects to a panel of Walt Disney Imagineering executive judges."

I'm also hoping they are just late and lagging as they seem to have been with the entire competition this year... But the wait is STRESSING ME OUT... :brick: lol

Good luck all!

Hmmm... we still haven't gotten a response... Is that a good sign? :lookaroun

It might just mean I need to adjust my spam filter.

(long time lurker) My team hasn't received an email either. We're keeping optimistic, but also wondered if they split the notifications onto two or more days based around your team number (we weren't sure what the "sorry you haven't made it to the semi-finals" email looks like so we weren't sure whether they were personalizing them like they did the first ones (thus it taking longer to get them out to everyone) or if it was more of a form type of email that was mass sent out).

As I keep telling my partner, I'm optimistically terrified!

Sorry to hear those who didn't make it, only 6 teams made it this year.

Maybe some of you made it. Keep us posted and for those of you entering next year, good luck and get to work, entries are due sooner than this year!

Have the winners all been notified by now? We still haven't received an email, and my teammates are getting pretty concerned/frustrated at the lack of a response. I know WDI said they'd contact us by the 22nd, but I don't want to pester them by demanding a response either.... :o

EDIT: At least one of the finalist groups already knows... http://www.woodburyalumni.com/s/131...3766&ecid=3766&crid=0&calpgid=408&calcid=2190

There's actually a ImagiNations documentary that followed a few teams around ( http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/imaginations/ ) (not sure when it's from). From what's on there, they didn't get notified that they were finalists until four or five days AFTER what they'd been told (granted, I think that was still under the system where you were notified you were a semi-finalist, asked to send more stuff, then notified of being a finalist)...I'd also suspect that if the finalists had been announced already, there'd be some sort of footprint out on the web already. A newspaper or newsletter or tweet or blog post. I haven't found anything...but I may not be looking hard enough because I'm holding out hope.

We didn't get an email today, either.

That documentary is from 2 years ago.

Not sure if all the finalist have been notified.

Mark Twain: I noticed you're from Indiana. I am too! What school do you go to? I went to Ball State, then last year there was a team from Indiana as well! I hope you make it, represent us dreamers here in the midwest!

If they haven't notified you yet that could be a very good thing. Have patience and faith!

I know of one team entering next year from Indiana. I hope they make it. They've already been working on the entry for the past year.

We got our email. Semifinalists, but didn't make it to finals.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if we're allowed to submit the same project if we do it a second year?

Though, if they change the start date to October like they've been threatening, my eligibility will get tricky (I'm that year off graduation and start grad school in mid October).

You could send in the same concept for a second year but what is the justification of doing so? Especially if that idea didn't merit you past semi finals.

I think it would be like shooting yourself in the foot. Take it from a past ImagiNations alumni...do something DIFFERENT.

You still would be eligible to enter the contest even if you're not in school by the time October comes around. The rules once said that you could be recently graduated (I believe up to one year). I'm not sure if this is still the case but you should be fine, especially if you're going from your undergrad to grad school that fast.

There definitely is a heavy leaning towards doing something new in my mind, but the concept we submitted this year is amazing (I usually don't toot my own horn...but I really love what we did). I think it was just really rough in the presentation and what of it we actually chose to show on the slides (as well as my partner and I getting a really late start on doing anything). There have definitely been things that we've come up with since we submitted the initial slides that were much more worthy of being on them. Though we have a whole notebook of other ideas, just none of them on quite the same level as this.

...I graduated May 2010, so my year out is already up (I spent a year off working as a research assistant and debating over grad school and publication offers).

Semi-finalists. :-/ I won't deny being a bit disappointed; I think all the anticipation and delay led to us hoping for a bit more, and our presentation was pretty solid.

There's always next year though! :)

Hey, congrats everyone! Granted you didn't make finals, but semi-finals is still something to be proud of! :D

I don't know how many teams got in this year, but I know only a handful make semi-finals, and that's a great thing!

As far as resubmitting an idea, I think they have some clause about that; since the idea is legally theirs now, I'm not sure you can revisit it. maybe if there was a lot of improvement?

By the way, Dwyn, you can continue through graduate school, if you're full time. *edit: I just noticed you mentioned you'd be in on mid-october, sorry. I'd say contact them about it. They might have favorable news!

Semifinalist

Hi, Everyone!

I've been following this forum for quite some time now, but didn't want to get too involved until I found out my team's standing in the competition. I became a semifinalist this year and invite you all to view my submission on my website. I'm still adding work to my portfolio, so there are only a handful of projects on the site now, but let me know what you think! I'd love to get some feedback, as well as see what you all came up with this year!

Great job jay! I just wanted to say, it seems like a great presentation!

Awkwardly, I'll admit, if we had entered, our entry is almost exactly like yours, just not as graphically beautiful. Some slight changes, but almost the same. I laughed as I looked through it; very fantastic work!
