I'm Just Sick Over The Great Movie Ride

If they "just updated it" you'd all still up in arms over you favorite scene getting cut. Look at at how well people took journey, energy and now pirates getting updated. You you dont seem to understand is that even if they updated it. The ride would be out of date in 5 years again. Also why on earth should disney promote other companies ip's when theirs are so strong now? I'm sorry but gmr's time has come and gone as shown by the short wait times it had for the last decade.
So Disney couldn't update it with their own IP? Outdated is relative. If the ride is good, timeless movies can still be relevant.

Is Peter Pan not outdated? Space Mountain? Make it good and people will keep coming. Figment's redesign was an abomination and poorly executed as they tried to remove the ride's iconic character. This could be done tastefully and with new technology. It's their job to figure out how to make it great. Instead, they are lazy and just kill it probably for the reasons you enumerated.

My solution is to build more rides, not replace them. TGMR still had legs and just needed some TLC.

I also don't agree with GMR being "outdated," and I don't think that's why it's being replaced. Ironically PP is dated (not the IP, but the ride itself) and in desperate need of an overhaul, but it's still absurdly popular and draws 70 minute standby lines, so I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. (Space Mountain is a "thrill" ride, so that speaks for itself). GMR is the best situated ride in the park (inside DHS's weenie) and doesn't get half that on a good day. Loved GMR, but still don't see how updates to the same premise would increase this ride's popularity in the long term? Especially later when it has SWL to compete with.

And you could be concerned about any rides' popularity when new ones come about. Still not exactly a compelling reason to do away with a ride that was supposed to help define the original meaning of the park.

And there's as much guarantee upgrading the ride would help it as not among riders....

My last trip was my first time at DHS and I loved GMR so I'm bummed it's closing, because I only got to ride it once. Does anyone know if the Chinese Theater facade is staying or going?

Popular? Gmr is a walk even with the closing news the longest wait im seeing is 30 min. The point you seem to be missing is dhs is not dhs anymore. The ride is out of place. I'm 31 years old and almost all those movies I've never seen. Now picture a 12 year old getting on. The movies are out of date and don't matter to today's kids.

I never claimed to be their ambassador but i certainly may know them better than someone who uses hereabouts as a word.

Atleast you didn't go all old English on me this time.

But you might want to look at tcm's demographics you might be surprised. I'd think their 40 and under demo isn't very great.

I haven't seen all of the movies portrayed, and I didn't even know who Clint Eastwood or John Wayne was until I rode this ride. I'm almost 31 and even as a kid I loved this ride without much knowledge of what was going on with the movies or musicals. So, where exactly does that put me?

In a way, I do agree. It's because the generation today is very heavily Tech savvy and unfortunately, the way I see it is that what used to take so little effort to give off great enjoyment (a.k.a. people acting or audio-animatronic portrayals), now takes a whole lot more effort, ex. VR, 4D etc.

Our generation and the way we were entertained as children has become outdated sadly.

Honestly I can't understand how people let themselves get so worked up about a theme park attraction. First world problems.-
This is a forum for fans of WDW - - - - With a post like this why are you here ???????

People get worked up because a ride/show can have just as much nostalgia as a person or special event in their lives. Some of us go to WDW for more than just a vacation - some of us even grew up in these parks - symbolizing some of the happiest moments in our lives - sharing these events with loved ones - rides bring more than just anamatronics and music.
GMR will also be missed in my heart as well.

I maintain that the GMR's biggest problem was licensing fees that Disney was having to pay to keep those movie sets, props, and clips in the attraction.
I had a bit of hope when Turner Classic Movies signed the sponsorship deal....but when the rumor hit that Disney decided not to renew after it expired, it was only a matter of time.
