I'm about to watch the Cast Preview of MSEP.......

One thing I wonder is why this parade has to have the traveling carnival feel attached to it. ("This summer only!" "It's toured 3 continents!" etc.)

Anytime Disney wants two parks to have the same ride, they build another one. What exactly is the impediment to building another set of MSEP floats?

My only guess is A.) They want the promotional juice from the limited time engagement and B.) They don't think it's good enough to become a regular offering at WDW (which makes me wonder if it might be retired at DL as well before long).

Just personally speaking, I'd rather see these floats and hear this music any night of the week than watch Spectro. I've considered the possibility that it might just be nostalgia talking, but after watching them both on Youtube, I genuinely think MSEP is a better/more entertaining parade. I think they should just make a permanent MSEP for both resorts.

Bit of an aside, but when this finally goes back to DLR, I really hope they put it back on Main St. Seeing the videos of it in DCA, it's really pathetic how they try to shoehorn it into the park's theme. ("The creative spirit of California combined with the magic of Disney!" "A California classic!") It's not a Beach Boys parade! Trying to tie the feel of that parade to a particular state feels very artificial.

<t's not a Beach Boys parade!>

true although for a few years after it came to DCA they had this really cool pre=parade band and if i'm not mistaken they sang some Beach Boys songs

I can't pin down which parade I prefer because they're very different. MSEP is nostalgic and fun like "Dumbo," and Spectro is grand and sweeping like "Fantasia"—heck, half the floats are dedicated to the movie. I do remember being blown away when Spectro premiered, so maybe everyone's perceived preference for MSEP is based on Spectro's long, uninterrupted run at the MK. Either way, I love both parades.

But I've got to admit that many of the MSEP floats look downright hokey when compared to the fiber optics in Spectro, and everything looks old when you look at Tokyo's Dreamlights. I hope Spectro gets Tokyo's tech during its refurb.

I think the problem with Spectro is that some of the characters featured aren't so well known these days as those in MSEP, such as those from Fantasia and with characters like Cinderella, Alice, etc shoved at the end. Also, the tech has become really outdated by Fantillusion & DreamLights since its premier.

Hopefully, during its downtime, Spectro will be updated technology wise and character wise.

From 1983-1990 all of the Disney resorts (at that time DLR, WDW, and TDR) had an original Main Street Electrical Parade to themselves. From then on, Disneyland's went to New York City, then had some floats sent to Paris, Walt Disney World, Disney's California Adventure, where the missing floats eventually returned, and back to Walt Disney World. Walt Disney World's went straight to Paris after its run and was amended by a few floats before being sent to Hong Kong where it is sitting waiting for use. Tokyo Disneyland's ended its run and was possibly destroyed, however the Swan Lake floats were preserved and shipped to Paris. And of course they have the new Tinker Bell float and everything from Tokyo's brand-new parade, so why couldn't they build a new Electrical Parade in the spirit of the original over here? It may be expensive but it's VERY popular.

Thanks for the info! I took a look at Tokyo's current parade, and like how it's basically an updated MSEP. So I guess the question is really "Why can America only have one MSEP in 2010?" :lol:

Some people might think Spectro just needs a spit and polish, but for my money, that won't fix its problems. The soundtrack is just soporific. Anytime I hear "Oooon this maaaaagic niiiiiiight...." my eyes just glaze over! And then you have all those white lights. I just don't dig it.

I think a new Tokyo-style MSEP with updated tech and new characters would be great for WDW (or DL). Update the tech, bring in some new floats, but I think any parade on Main Street needs the Baroque Hoedown behind it. And some real colors! :king:

How about "Cinderellabration...All across the nation..."?

Who writes this stuff? :lol:
