We were lucky enough to see the Main Street Electircal Parade many times as a kid and also when it returned in 2001. We are going this winter and wish they would keep it around for a while. They went through so much work to transport it and disassemble/reassemble, you'd think they would run it a little longer than a few months. Oh well, everyone who gets to see it....enjoy it! The opening music is absolutely EPIC!

I don't understand why they're only running it for a few months. That prevents those of use who aren't able to go for a day trip or aren't planning on going during those months from seeing it. I know they're doing Summer Nightastic now and this is a treat, but why can't they make a 2nd MSEP specifically for WDW and rotate it with Spectromagic so that more people get a chance to see it?

Shouldn't it be "Disney Electrical Parade" at this point? :dazzle:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Looks great. Can't wait for it to return back to DLR in a few months :D Just keep it clean TDO and maintained or ill be mad >_<

I was under the impression that MSEP would physically be in WDW through at least the end of summer 2011, even if it is not running in the park that entire time. WDW is borrowing the parade from Disneyland while DCA is a mess and can't run it or store it. So, you probably won't be seeing the MSEP in Disneyland for a year or two at this point. At least that's what I thought I read.

For some reason, I think Disney feels it's OK to tell little white lies about the MSEP. (Anyone remember the big "Glowing Away Forever" campaign at Disneyland in the late 90's when they sold off "actual bulbs"?)

As someone just pointed out, the cost of that cross-country trip for a 3-month run seems absurd.

And yet, I can understand the need for a little fibbing.

Summer bookings are down, and Disney needs to fill hotel rooms. If they announced MSEP would be here for 2 years, they wouldn't get as much bang for their buck.

I'm sure on paper this parade is only slated for the summer---just as Disney wouldn't acknowledge that huge new building that was going up next to the Contemporary.

I don't know for sure, but I'd bet come August we'll hear "by popular demand, the MSEP is extending it's run"---and no one will question them about it.

Has any one heard if this will stay longer than Aug 14??? We get in on the 15th and i really want to see it. What are the changes this will be extended??? PLEASE OH PLEASE!!!!!!

The official Disney calendars list "Electrical Light Parade" through August 14, and then SpectroMagic beginning immediately on August 15. So, that's the "official" word at this point. However, some reputable sources have hypothesized that it will hang around for a while longer, with an announcement coming sometimes mid to late summer.

I hope they're right.

Too bad they missed the very beginning. The opening introduction is literally my favorite part.

Very odd that they'd work so hard at having the drum say DISNEY'S Electrical Parade but then call it the MSEP in the intro.

All I can say is extend it into December! I have such wonderful memories of seeing this parade as a child and would love for my DD4 to be able to enjoy it. She is already familiar with the music as it is on one of our Disney cds and I use a small excerpt from it as a ringtone....love it....there is no real rush to get back to California! :animwink:

Maybe you Californians will not get it back quite so soon, eh!
Lets hope not!

There is also some rumours swirling that DLR might get an entire new MSEP for the 60th :sohappy:

Wow, this thing looks good back home on Main Street USA. That original Jack Wagner announcement makes up for the lack of original music and bass drum logo. This is the best parade in the history of the universe, I can't WAIT to see it!!!!

The refreshed parade looks good, would have still liked to have seen the drum updated with a name change so it doesn't scream "THIS IS ON LOAN", but the 70s Jack Wagner recording is great. The music doesn't bother me that much. It does sound pretty fresh compared to the original 70s recording now that I've listened to both yesterday. Would have liked to have seen the blue fairy with the rest of the Pinocchio floats and the Dumbo Circus, but hopefully that will return to DCA.

It is extremely exciting to see it return to WDW; the crowd was cheering during the CM preview. As previously said, it looks completely refreshed. The new technology behind the lights looks amazing! I can't wait to see it again tonight! :D

Get a permanent one for WDW!
Your permanent one is Spectromagic. DLR doesnt even have a night time parade. New video of MSEP on disney's blog. Also they say it will run til the 14th then stop

Tinker Bell now opens the parade by appearing inside a balloon basket above a shimmering bed leaves and flowers. From there, she sprinkles a shower of pixie dust that spreads throughout the rest of the parade, adding a little more sparkle to each float. Other enhancements to the parade include the addition of a Pleasure Island scene for Pinocchio, and a diamond mine for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
You can see it for yourself at Magic Kingdom Park through Aug. 14.

I just hope that it's at one of the parks we go to on one of our trips! I move out West and the parade goes back East... it just figures! One of these day's we'll get to see it!

Im surprised they havent sent spectro to cali for awhile at some point. Is it because its considered a disney world staple and original?

It looks as if the parade is starting in Town Square...is this permanent? Didn't they change the parade route a few years ago to have Spectro start in Frontierland?

If it does start in Town Square, I'll be very happy indeed!

I think SpectroMagic is the only one that goes backwards? All the other parades go UP Main Street, whereas SpectroMagic goes down? I can't remember...

This is true...but why not have it at BOTH parks? Besides MSEP > Spectro by a long shot.
Well we can, but you would have to try and get your lazy tdo to build one :brick::snore:

Also, I dont think they will send spectro out because it is boring, TDA probably doesnt want it, and MSEP will return in august.:p

SpectroMagic went up Main Street the week (and always has as far as I know) during my visit and ended in Frontierland. I believe all of the other parades now go down Main Street to end in Town Square as I recall. It was sometime last year that they modified the day parade to switch and end in Town Square. Better crowd flow was the reason, I think.

Personally, Spectro is my beloved night parade. I think it is better than MSEP. Like the CastleCake in '96, the MSEP is okay for a temporary run but I wouldn't want it to be a permanent replacement. Just keep enhancing Spectro and all will be good!
