Pretty much. Of course if Steve puts that out there, I'm willing to take it as gospel.

I just don't trust Disney to create something as meaningful as IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Technically impressive no doubt, but lacking in that depth of content, most likely in favor of a more franchise obsessed show in the vein of World of Color.

In all fairness, Illuminations pre 2000 was pretty lame. The music was mainly a collection of recycled standards from the countries represented in WS with fireworks not starting until 9 minutes into the show.

There was a lot of room for improvement.

I just don't see that much room for improvement to the core of what we currently have. Sure, fountains could be better, fireworks can get better, maybe tweak the pacing a bit or add some effects for the zero attention span crowd, but I just can't envision a drastic jump like we saw from Illuminations to Illuminations Reflections of Earth.

I sincerely hope I am wrong. I would love to be wowed with something better.

One thing I liked about IllumiNations was how they played music from each showcase and they lit up and strobed.

It begs the question 'Why replace such a popular show?"

I would much rather see Illuminations run for 50 years with incremental improvements to the elements of the show than have it replaced with something inferior.

Disneyworld is more popular now than ever? Is it the best it has ever been?....no so that's yur point. Popularity means nothing Chevrolet once asked customers what kind of car they should make next. In a nutshell you can't build race cars for 15K

I say replace that aging globe jessus a local apple store up ends that things tech.

Roommate has a CM friend who keeps posting on FB about how excited she is for the "new nighttime show that's coming to Epcot which will be replacing Illuminations."

Too limited.

The beauty of all the shows since New World is they're viewable 360 degrees.
It would be interesting to have both, to be honest. Have the 360 degree lagoon show. Have SSE supplement it with imagery and lights and lasers and maybe even the Fountain of Nations for those people still in Future World.

Good point. Why not have a FW projection/fountain show in addition to a 360 degree lagoon show (whether RoE or a replacement)?

Anything more than the current fountain that's going to cause guests to stop and watch would be a no no.

Lessons learned from Splashtacular.

Can you expand? I don't remember Splashtacular beyond the name, so I'm assuming there was some sort of logistical nightmare associated with it.

The viewing area blocked entry, exit and cross park traffic.

Guests had to divert via the two north most doors of Communicore. To enter the park. To leave the park. And to cross Futureworld.

If Illuminations gets replaced, I hope the new show can top the soundtrack heard in Illuminations. Especially since the music heard from 8:35 - 9:29 served as Epcot's unofficial theme song. Which was heard in various advertisements and WDW planning videos for Epcot.
