IllumiNations New Pyro Changes

Unfortunately, today's Disney is unwilling to allow the creation of a show that pushes the boundaries. I would not be surprised if the show is replaced with some IP wh0re-fest in the near future. I have low expectations for a replacement show, well perhaps realistic is a better word. I hope they prove me wrong, I doubt they will.

Rivers of Light? "Today's Disney" is making that one. Doesn't look like an IP wh0re-fest to me.

Happy to report the torches are still lit for the pre and post shows!! :) Also of note is that the 1999 music loop seems to be the preferred loop now. I've heard it nearly every night I've been to Epcot since February, which is weekly. I even thought they may be alternating nightly between '99 and '04, I even kept track of my visits on the nights when I heard both, but this switching doesn't seem to be the norm anymore. Though I did hear the '04 loop on April 24th, so who knows LOL

Interesting. Was wondering about that. Always thought it was strange that they started using the '99 loop again, and yet still somehow occasionally switch to the '04 loop.

And this sir is in fact why, you are the man. Thanks for all you do.

In brief....

Big Bang. Universe forms. Chaos.

Order. The earth forms from molten rock, cools, drifts across the solar system.

Plant life. Water. Animals. Mammals.

Man makes his first kill and records it on cave walls.

Man leaves the cave.

Begins to travel.

Begins to invent and travel further.

Builds around the globe.

Gets arty. Paints. Draws. The modern world.

Celebration of man.

Smoochy we all need to live together no matter what ethnicity.

19 torches light for each century AD

20th torch lights on the globe for the new century

Accelerate into the new century for finale

In a nutshell.

I'll just keep using my memories from going there every 2-3 years since I was 6 in 1982. Don't get your dander all fluffed up, this is just my opinion.
Down Tonto, no fluffed up Dander here.... just don't let facts get in the way of your opinion.

Maybe the addition of water screens to bring the images "of the globe"and make the show more dimensional and closer. Maybe add some small watercraft during celebration to add more kinetic energy. Possibly there are additional "planets" during the transition from chaos to order to add depth.

There wouldn't be watercraft but additional water screens to replicate the globe imagery sounds good.

What's not to get? How are people so "out of it" that they can't see its a celebration of humanity. The opening is a re-creation of the "big bang", the middle segment showcases the birth of human achievement, and the finale is a call for all of us to "build on all that we have done" and continue towards the future. People like you, who require meaning to be spoon fed to them, are why Disney feels like they can't get away with creating shows like this anymore. Don't want to be inspired? Go watch the sappy Wishes.

It's not the big bang... it's the shot heard round the world. The drums leading up to it, it's a call to war. Each country starts firing, we are all against each other. Eventually art and culture open up dialogue between the countries and we see unification. The globe comes out, we celebrate our joining as one, the globe unfolds and the fire is now a force of unity not destruction. The show is all about showing the world coming together and being one community. I love the message of the show and I used to go see it every night when I worked at Y&B a decade ago.

That being said... the show needs a massive update. It's not impressive anymore. We see lasers and projections all the time now throughout the parks. The screen on the globe is horrible quality, many points in the show feel "dead". I get that it's about transition and all that, but with today's technology the show is capable of being so much more.

WOW - you got a TOTALLY different meaning out of that - Not quite what was intended, but hey if that moved you - mission accomplished!

I noticed that last night's 4th of July (2016) show had ALL the pyro (both type and supply) from the last version of the show before the recent changes.

Any word on if this is now going to be the norm again or will they be switching back to the newer pyro? Could they have set aside a handful of the older pyro for special occasions such as this? Like I said, not only was all the pyro the same as the last version, but even the amount used was spot on. With the version they've been running lately, the supply has sadly dwindled.

Illuminations is one of the last remaining things that still feel "Epcot" to me. While most of the park has changed (or declined, whichever way you chose to view it), Illuminations always takes me back to the original feel and message of traditional Epcot. I hope they never change it to be honest. Improve and upgrade, sure.... But to completely change it, that's the end of any "Epcot" feelings forever.

Well, everything but the screamers (aka best part).

Each torch around the world showcase Lagoon represents a millennia. The opening number is called chaos and it is a representation of the Big Bang. It is not a call to war. At the end of chaos you will see the Earth, at first it's red molten lava State and then as it drifts through space it cools off and turns blue.

Second act.... And then you will see the animals in the plant life on the planet. Eventually you will see man at first just his feet barefoot walking to the grass around the planet. And then the globe will show you all the accomplishments of man. First simple accomplishment such as farming and simple modes of transportation that become more and more elaborate as time goes by. The second act concludes with a celebration of mankind as it is today. You will see many familiar faces come across the globe but the last face you will see will not be a face at all. It'll be the reflection of Earth on an astronaut's helmet because the astronaut is truly looking at the planet as it is intended to be, the home to everyone.

Third act is the celebration of a dawning of a new Millenia and thus our future together. The torches come back on and The Earth will blossom within it will rise the 21st touch lighting the way to the new Millenia with a thousand points of light as signified by the finale of flares.

These pyro changes are truly nothing to put too much thought into. All it boils down to is the supplier being out of the "normal" product and them giving Disney a replacement until the original product is ready again.
Wish that was completely true. A few of the best fireworks have been replaced with sub par ones since 2010. I'm not at all against using different pyro from time to time, just wish it was on the same level or better than what they replace it with.
