IllumiNations New Pyro Changes

It's a good show. I'll watch it when I'm there and I prefer it to Wishes which seems overly "kiddie" to me (I know it's MK and all that but it'd be nice if they'd mix it up a bit - Nightastic a few years back was really good and is a great example of what they could do).

If they swapped out Illuminations for a new show I'd be OK with it. It is getting a bit long in the tooth.

This is one nighttime show that desperately needs updated. It's basically the same thing since 1986. I know they'll be some people chime in with the 'nu-uh, the globe thing is digital and the lay-zers are way better and stuff, you're dumb for thinking it's the same show from 30 years ago'. Think about it though, it's the same idea reworked over and over again. By far, the most unimpressive fireworks show in any American Disney park.

I'm not sure were you are getting this from. The current generation of IllumiNations didn't even open until 1999 in advance of the Millennium. It was a completely different show with almost no reference to the older editions of the show that ran before it.

This, and the prior version to 1999 focused on the pavilions more with each one being highlighted with music, effects, and images in some cases on the pavilions...I really miss that aspect. (except as we all know Norway and Morocco were never included).

What's not to get? How are people so "out of it" that they can't see its a celebration of humanity. The opening is a re-creation of the "big bang", the middle segment showcases the birth of human achievement, and the finale is a call for all of us to "build on all that we have done" and continue towards the future. People like you, who require meaning to be spoon fed to them, are why Disney feels like they can't get away with creating shows like this anymore. Don't want to be inspired? Go watch the sappy Wishes.
Thank you for the explanation of Illuminations. I guess if you would have said " Hey, if you weren't to sure on what Illuminations is all about this is it in a nut shell.... blahhh blaahhh" But instead you say "People like you" meaning " How dare people not agree with me!!!" I am not sure you have noticed but in life not everyone is going to agree with you and when you say "People like you" your kind of being a bigot and you don't want that label do you?

And of many.

RoE consistently score highest in guest satisfaction.

That's good, right? This is my opinion. this is a discussion board. I don't have to go with the flow of everyone else. I can spout a differing opinion than others, right? You guys take this crap so seriously. It's a message board. Let's all go off the deep end because someone thinks something other than what they do. pfft.

Hey, that's awesome that it posts good reviews. That's probably why they won't/don't change it. It speaks to the multiethnic background of customers that come to WDW. It doesn't speak to me, since it's basically the same thing I've seen for-ev-er.

I absolutely love Illuminations, but could see upgrades to the middle section where there's limited pyro. I could see the drone screen tech have value here as well as a larger earth globe. Aside from that, the pyro, music and lasers are still fantastic.

Yup, they still use some of the music and the projections that were used on the pavilions in those earlier editions in the Global Countdown portion of the NYE fireworks show. In that version they play the music from the earlier version of the show that came for each country and then launch fireworks from behind each pavilion for the countdown.

I will accept a new show if it EXCEEDS the quality of the current one. If they replace it with an inferior version, I will never set foot at Disney again. I'm not exaggerating either.

I'm with you. I'd want it to be as good or better, not a retread with IPs in it.

When you say updated, do you want it completed replaced? Sadly, though it's concept is certainly old, it's one of the few things that I don't want Disney messing with as I fear if it were replaced, it won't have the same impact. To me, it's the only show that is a constant success in terms of a dramatic performance. Wishes never did that for me. Fantasmic is a separate sort of thing. Wouldn't call it a pyro show. But Illuminations, especially as it's sans any IP, still does well.

I'm a big fan of the show as well but I think it's probably due for a refresh. The whole earth globe movement sequence has started to feel a bit like an intermission over the years. While I completely understand the whole story they are telling here, most people don't know or care. The phrase often heard around the lagoon during this portion is 'boring'. I don't want it to be replaced but I'd be okay with a refresh for that segment that picks up the pace a little. The whole sequence just takes too long with very little pyro and just the illumination of the globe.

But it HAS, that's the point. New lasers, new lightning sequences on the pavilions during "Celebration", new pyro colors and searchlight colors to match those changes, the post-show was changed last summer too. Maybe these are changes only noticeable to someone who sees the show weekly, like me :geek: But to say it hasn't changed since 1999 is a lie.

Most pyro color changes have to do with the supplier going out of business.

Pretty clear you haven't a clue what you're talking about.

And we do take this seriously as these forums originally started as a fan site for the ROE show.

Maybe to some guest, but as Marni pointed out , the show has highest satisfaction rating out of most of the nighttime entertainment. Somehow the show is still a great experince or it wouldn't rate so high.

Though I can concur that I've heard "boring" said during that segment, I have to say I don't agree with those who feel that way. To me the sum of the parts makes the entire show better. What takes place post all those quieter segments is only made better by those quiet segments being there. Of course this is all opinion, but I like action intertwined with intrigue. Though it may just be a sign of the times, in this age of snapchat and shorter attention spans, people demand non stop action. Illuminations is more like a great novel, but those who find some segments boring would probably only wait for the movie to be made than read the book.

I do think that the one thing they could do that would improve the show is invest in a larger ball that people could see better and does more effects. And maybe has a big Siemens logo on it, just kidding.

And I want my Tapestry parade back. That was the best parade ever. And I want Share a Dream Come True parade back at MK.

1st: ROE?
- don't know what that is. Thanks.

2nd:
I agree that the lull of the ball floating out helps the show. They could redo the ball with finer graphics, though (like more LEDs/ft^2).

It's a good show - it's just be nice to see something new.

Once they got rid of the whistling screamer fireworks my interest in this show faded. It seems to be progressively losing more and more only to be replaced with sub-par fireworks. I won't cry once a new show is announced.
