I think there will be no guidelines issued at all now. I don't think he planned to release any guidelines but had something drafted up a while ago, but it leaked (which despite my initial skepticism last night appears to be true in some form) and now the theme park industry is having a fit about it. so if I am Newsom I would be like "Hey, you have been bugging me for some guidelines, now that there are some you have the audacity to complain about them?! well now I am not gonna release any. so there"
I think they’re coming. And apparently will be so stringent no one will open up anytime soon and he can go back to ignoring them.

Isn't it great? It's passing beyond the surreal into... I don't even know what phase we are in now.

But I do know that it's entertaining to watch! None of us could have ever imagined this. Ever.
We've entered cloud cuckoo land, for sure.

Hey, did we lose more threads to the politics forum? I feel like I just read some posts before dinner and now they are gone.

How would they shut them down? They have no power, there is no agency that can enforce it and there is no law on the books that allows the state to fine them, that would fall on the county and city and even then it could be fought, as nothing was passed through legislation to allow it.

In this case, the only power the state has is revoking their alcohol license and that only applies if they sell alcohol, we learned that when restaurants in various parts of the state opened before they were allowed to.
Sad that a serious issue about public health and dealing with the spread of a disease has degenerated into an unnecessary power show. The supposed Newsom plan is no plan at all. What happened to conducting business and not getting personal? Draconian restrictions have proven to be ineffective in addressing COVID19. Business can be conducted with modified behaviors and protocols but this shut down concept is now as harmful to the citizenry as the illness.

Yes, the other thread got sent to Politics, which is where it honestly belongs if you try and apply a 2019 standard to 2020 discussions about theme parks. But the problem here is that anything that gets announced or discussed in the next 60 days about California theme parks is going to be intrinsically related to politics. Because that's what this is at this point, politics.

And now California is layering on a new set of rules based on Racial Quotas regarding Covid infection rates. Although this virus has no idea what race the person is it just infected, Governor Newsom is going to hold all counties to a new racial standard when it comes to how the virus is behaving in that county.

In short, this is going to get messier and more contentious in the months ahead. And Disneyland likely won't be reopening until sometime later in 2021. Maybe 2022?

You are right. This forum should probably just be termporarily changed to "Disneyland: The Politics of Reopening" or something like that.

And the response from theme parks is we will open on our own terms then in a couple of weeks and just not sell alcohol and there will be NOTHING you can do to stop us since the cities and counties issue business licenses and the Orange county theme parks don't even have to worry about the sheriff.
I urge you to take a deep breath sir or miss? We are only discussing a theme park here it is not life and death.

Tell that to the CMs that still officially work there and will have no income coming in, not even from unemployment. I bet they feel quite a bit differently about if it is life or death when no one will hire them because they officially have a job to go back to.

Or is this Iger acting like a 3 year old and having a tantrum for not getting his way?

That is possible, but with the rumored guidelines and other parks not being too fond of them, I don't think it is just Iger being upset. I'm not much of an Iger fan, but if the guidelines are as strict as they seem from the rumors, I can't really blame him for being upset with them.

Wasn't Iger the only guy on the task force representing theme parks? And Iger was only there because he represented Disney, which is the premiere global entertainment company.

It's not like Newsom was going to ask the CEO of Naughty Unfashionable Sea World to show up to his task force breakfast meetings and risk him wearing a Shamu sweatshirt in front of the cameras. That's about as likely as Newsom asking the manager of the South Sacramento WalMart #2586 to come to his Kool Kids Meeting.

Bob Iger was only there because he was the CEO of The Walt Disney Company the glamorous and politically correct mega-company that controls the culture, and Disney just also happens to run an amusement park in uppity Orange County that Newsom and Lady Newsom have never taken their four young children to because that's not how they are raising their family.

They should definitely still be receiving benefits from their states, if they’re not they’re just not doing it right. I was specifically talking about you tho not CMs

Here's the official statement on the Task Force from back in April. As only a bureaucrat in Sacramento could write....

SACRAMENTO – Bringing together leaders across California’s diverse, innovative economic and social sectors to chart a path forward on recovery in the wake of COVID-19, Governor Gavin Newsom today announced the formation of a state Task Force on Business and Jobs Recovery. The Task Force will be co-chaired by Governor Newsom’s Chief of Staff Ann O’Leary and philanthropist, environmentalist and businessman Tom Steyer, who was also appointed Chief Advisor to the Governor on Business and Jobs Recovery. He will receive no compensation for his service.

Members of the Task Force include Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, Senate Minority Leader Shannon Grove, Assembly Minority Leader Marie Waldron, former Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, Walt Disney Company Executive Chairman Bob Iger, former head of the Small Business Administration Aida Álvarez and dozens of prominent leaders in business, labor, health care, academia and philanthropy.

So, yeah.... It was nothing. Plus Tom Steyer as a bonus to nothing! A useless monthly breakfast meeting for the Kool Kids and pointless bureaucrats that achieved absolutely nothing. First order of business... maybe talking about charting a path forward in our diverse, innovative economic and social sectors. But have you tried the banana muffins, Bob? They're delicious!

It's kind of refreshing to see Bob Iger so publicly step away from such a trivial farce. Tom Steyer! Banana muffins!

It is NOT entertaining to me, the city of Anaheim (well, maybe to a couple of councilmembers), or to those who work and run businesses in the Resort Area.

Add the Cities of Buena Park, San Diego, Carlsbad, Santa Clarita and Universal City.

Another weekend of having a wife ed at me for doing "work", not Honey Do projects!
