^^I agree with the education stuff but CGI Mickey looks fine. That kinda updating is fine and almost inevitable.Disney hasn't done traditional animation in AGES,save the 1st 3 mins of enchanted.

Oh,and Mickey not being in anything good?Has ANYONE seen Fantasmic?Mickey whoops Milificent BAD.

Like I said before, I hope Disney does make new Mickey cartoons, as long as they're in the spirit of the originals. Remember the "Toon Works" (I think that was the name) show in the late 90s? It flopped because the cartoons simply weren't as good as the originals.

Yes, we can. Disney has announced this. :)

Really?!?When did we get this good news?:sohappy:

And I'm tired of all the things that were good enough for me having to be reworked to apease the spoiled kids of today. So if little Billy dosen't know what a trolley is, should we omit the trolley or should we TEACH him what a trolley is? What's next, change the brooms from Fantasia into Swiffer sweepers?

Good point; I forgot about that ridiculous statement Iger made. Interviews like this prove that even if someone excels at business decisions, he shouldn't try to sound "hip and cool" unless he actually knows what he's talking about.

If a large box is moving down the sidewalk and you can ride inside the box, you just tell the kids, "Hey, it's a trolley!" Then they know what it is.

Disney didn't even do that animation. Also, the CGI argument doesn't hold water anymore. The most popular cartoon characters right now are hand-drawn (Spongebob and Fairly Odd Parents).

Again, most Americans haven't seen Fantasmic.

It was announced when the Goofy cartoon was released.

The CGI cartoons featuring Mickey are just bad. They look bad, are boring, and don't take much talent to create. If mickey goes totally CGI I'm done with him. He hasn't starred an anything good for years anyway.

You know what, let's just get rid of history in schools. It's not very PC anyway. :brick:
This confused me as well. If you think along those lines, half of MK would be irrelevant also. Trolley's were not exactly in use when I was a kid either but I still knew what one was.

Most history textbooks have already rewritten events to make them more PC. :(

Historians throughout the world have been protesting the wrong information in school books since the 1980s.

EDIT: Even in college, my professors often skipped chapters from our books and gave us supplementary reading materials because the book authors had rewritten events from an obvious bias instead of simply stating facts.

Why does animation have to COMPLETELY evolve? Can't Disney just do *some* cartoons and/or characters in the style that made them famous?

CGI Mickey ISN'T Walt's Mickey. Heck, I won't even buy remastered classics because it isn't the artist's original vision. Maybe we should paint over the Mona Lisa. I mean today's kids can't find her all that attractive.

I'd like to add that "Spirited Away"—the number 1 foreign film of all time—was released in the 2000s and is hand-drawn.

CGI-only advocates need to accept that the method of animation doesn't matter; the storytelling and quality of animation do. Kids don't ignore cartoons simply because they aren't CGI (Spongebob, anyone?).

EDIT: To his credit, Iger never said anything about CGI, and Goofy's "How to Hook Up a Home Theater" was hand-drawn. Word on the street (Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, etc.) states that Disney animation will be hand-drawn while Pixar will specialize in CGI.

A Google Image Search for "Hip Mickey" yields:

A gross exaggeration of course, but can you imagine the uproar if Disney debuted this? :lookaroun

In the modern era, all Mickey really is is a spokemodel for the parks. There are, amazingly, no rides at Disney that feature Mickey or any of the original characters except Philharmagic and Fantasmic. But that's not alot considering 4 parks. There are no movies, especially theatrical releases. you see Mickey and Co. everywhere but they don't really DO anything. How long before kids don't even recognize Mickey for anything BUT a themepark mascot?

Today's kids don't refuse to watch anything that isn't CGI.

I would totally agree with that. Let me tell you on Saturday mornings my son's favorite thing is for me to pop in the DVD's that I bough from Wal-Mart that have all the old Superman, Woody Woodpecker, Popeye and old Disney cartoons. Don't get me wrong he does love Mickey Mouse clubhouse but he would rather watch Woody Woodpecker than he would Handy Manny.
