You guys are all wrong. He's coming on to announce MAJOR expansion for Walt Disney World including but not limited to announcements for Beastly Kingdom (replacing avatar land), a massive expansion of world showcase, and new rides for the magic kingdom and combined with their high quality and standards will cement their status as the industry leader and there dominance over Universal.

At least thats what jt told me

Considering this happened 3 hours ago, your joke is considerably late.

Star Wars a great fit for Disney what? really. They cancelled The Clone Wars (with what I think is the best animation out there)delayed episodes II and III 3D releases put the RPG game 1313 on hold ended Star Wars Detours and as some have said no immediate plans for any new Star Wars themed attractions in Orlando. Well that fits, let me tell you they are not making many friends in the Star Wars fan community but we will get episode 7 O yippie

I was surprised to see he was in NY, I just got back from there... shoulda tried to brush shoulders! haha jk but had I known he was doing the business council work I would have better guessed what that interview would be about. It was mostly about things tied to that with TWDC. They mentioned a few quick tidbits about the company and announced the Mickey shorts. The Mickey shorts is actually IMO good news. I am glad to hear they are trying to reestablish Mickey's original identity.

I believe Clone Wars was cancelled to make way for a new animated series that they had distribution rights to. They want that show on Disney XD, not Cartoon Network. As for rides, I would expect something eventually but not immediately. Remember good things happen to those who wait, so they say. I would expect a better product out of Disney if they took their time planning the right way to introduce Star Wars to the parks. Bottom line... I think fans will be happy when it is all said and done.

Oh and I think 1313 is just on hold because of the new consoles. I believe Sony listed Lucasarts as a third party dev that is working on a PS4 title.

My big observation is that he spoke like a Wall Street guy. Everything was about franchises and leveraging of those franchises across multiple platforms and businesses.

Nothing was mentioned about Walt Disney World other then international tourism and we've seen more Brazilians because of the new visa programs that have been put into place.

He also mentioned how travel and Torys some creates new job growth in America. Citing that 65 international tourists creates one American job. He specifically mentioned that Torys I'm from Brazil, Russia, China, and India.

He is a Wall Street guy and he was speaking to a Wall Street audience. I swear he said the word FRANCHISE so much in the first five minutes that if I had been doing shots, I would have been passed out on the floor before Maria's lips even touched his butt cheeks.

That 65-to-1 point is a very, very, VERY sad statement about what Disney has become. If Disney needs 65 international (i.e. high-spending visitors) guests to hire one person at $7.75 an hour then something has gone terribly wrong with our version of capitalism (which it has!)

So my generic recap on what our fearless leader had spoke of this afternoon on CNBC:

-NEW BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: 19 new Mickey Mouse cartoon animated shorts on Disney Channel.

That was it.

I still think he would've announced the DD/DS plan had it not been for the bad weather earlier on down in O-Town today. Did I miss anything @PhotoDave219?

The Mickey shorts were announced a while back, they were just lost in other news, more or less, plus they're not really all that exciting. Esp on Disney Channel.

I enjoyed he absolutely knew it was the marketing that really propelled Oz. Industry-wise, it was looked at as pretty dismal.

And he did say one thing that's very important, and he mentioned it multiple times. "International, international, international." If you want to look where Disney is focused, look outside the US.

Ya Iger is so boring, but I can't say I blame him for not caring since all he really wants to do is get a seat on capital hill. Having said that show a little enthusiasm man, have some charisma and get the fans excited for once. Every interview with him flat out sucks and is a waste of life watching.

I am starting to seriously wonder if Iger's political 'ambitions' have been a carefully crafted smokescreen by the man at this point. ... He has the charisma of a dead chicken.

The only other bet that was mentioned was cablevision lawsuit.

He said he can't comment specifically. We have great channels, ESPN, Disney channel, abc. Great relationships with providers. They are paying a fair price for these channels. "Great value for cable operators" (those are just my notes)

All in all, parks and resorts seem to be far down on the list of talking points anymore.

Yes, he decides to take a shot at Viacom's recent dispute with Cablevision when his company has had huge issues in the past over rights fees, especially over ESPN. Of course, Wall Street has a shorter memory than most fanbois.

I couldn't help but think he looks like Bobby Valentine and sounds like Andrew Cuomo. The lack of charisma of Iger trumps the babble of some politicians. Maybe it won't be too big of a road block for him.

I hope you're right but the Clone Wars fans are upset because they ended the show with a lot of open ended story lines and it's known that season six and part of seven are finished or in production but all they said was that they will releaae "bonus content" Still I'll hoppe for the best

Yeah I heard him mention International when dealing with fixing the visa policy and the Brazilian, Russian, Indian, and Chinese markets that love all things Disney. I didn't know about the Mickey shorts till now but thanks for telling me that it's old news and got worked up for nothing. At least they're making the effort to platform Mickey in a more effective way. I didn't really care for the Oz promo trailers, but I must say they definitely know how to advertise/market the crap out of their films which given the size of their company/company resources they should easily be able to do so one would think.

Well, I can see the I and C component of BRIC rather travelling to Tokyo Disneyland, Hong Kong Disneyland, Shanghai Disneyland or even Disneyland Paris as all of them would be closer to them than the American parks...

Also, I am pretty sure that the wealthy people in the BRIC countries have their very nice niche that they live in which is not crap. And I would even guess that some rich Brazilians could be rather appalled by what Disney considers a "deluxe" hotel.
As are wealthy people (and even "financially okay" people) the world over...

Disney's hotels survive on...

1. Proximity to the parks
2. Vacationers for customers
3. Advertising

No doubt, it stinks when any show gets cancelled but hopefully the new series fulfills a void. It was one of those casualties of merger/acquisition.

I can always tell when you are about to materialize because you are always proceeded by a band of negative trolls who (oddly enough ) post rarely but as a well coordinated unit.

This new DTD is a good plan. You should never doubt me.

He's going to talk about the areas of growth and new potential for growth. Parks isn't a 20% growth area. It's old faithful supporting the core.

Parks and Resorts not a growth area? Really?

Tell that to the folks building in Shanghai and Hong Kong and Paris ... or the folks in Anaheim that didn't need to offer locals winter/spring discounts for the first time in the 21st century ... or the folks who are quietly looking into building two more cruise ships and sending one older one to Asia and Australia.

It isn't a mature business ... even in O-Town ... as UNI has shown. It's only mature when you present a lesser version of the same old product year after year after bloody year ...

My favorite part was at the end, where he nearly admitted that they were trying to replace Mickey with Stitch. I'm glad to hear (and have noticed a BIT) that they're finally freaking realizing that PEOPLE LIKE MICKEY.

It was annoying me to no end, that whole "down-play Mickey" thing.

They need to go back to Mickey wake-up calls now. And Mickey everywhere - cups, napkins, plates, etc.

I don't know wth they were thinking, trying to replace Mickey. But I frequently don't understand their thinking.

Other than that, it was similar to the vast majority of interviews done on financial programming shows. Not even a particularly interesting one.

That guy is wound pretty tight, isn't he? Just watching/listening to him makes me wonder what his blood pressure is. He should quit working and relax. He has enough money. Life is short. He should go enjoy it.

The Mickey shorts are a result of the fact that Mickey (wait, til you see the hate I get on this one) is slightly more relevant than Oswald these days. Most kids only know him as a foamhead at 'Disney' or a corporate symbol.

And make no mistake, Disney is desperate to make him relevant again ... but they have to do it slowly. If they put out a Mickey feature tomorrow, they know it would bomb as much as a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles feature or even (with all the Bronys) a My Little Pony film and that would harm the company/BRAND in a huge way.

This is step one in trying to make Mickey relevant again ... because hs simply isn't.
