Iger mentions plans for EPCOT

Ivory Tower Squabble EST 2011. WINDMILL SURVIVOR
Nothing to add but that Future World in particular is being heavily looked at.

We’ve been here before. I recognize that tree. ;)

Several years ago the CMs were given new assignments at Imagination right after the Christmas holiday, the powers to be all visited the pavilion multiple times. The date came and went and the CMs new assignments were cancelled. For a year we watched with anticipation rumors of WoL being razed. Still there. Not to say there were not some great concepts brought forward and heavily looked at as were the price tags heavily looked at. We are where we are. :banghead:

Has there been any talk of having a Joe Rhode, not Imagineer of the month, overseeing the park in a manner similar to DAK? The only way I see that park coming back to its original ideas is if someone with creative power is imbedded in the institution like Joe is.
Tom Fitzgerald currently holds that title and he has had to fend off Rhode.

I'm honestly terrified for the future of Epcot. I don't expect the days of Horizons and Wonders of Life to come back for obvious reasons but the future is bleak right now. Don't get me wrong, I expect some money to be pumped into this park in the future but it won't be enough to bring it back to the glory days. I had a nightmare a few weeks back that Disney announced the re-branding of Epcot in which they changed the name. If I ever see that news, I'll be sure to snort cinnamon just to make sure I'm actually awake.

Does Fitzgerald have the skills to actually lead "a major re-Imagineering of Epcot, looking to restore the original intent of the park in both Future World and World Showcase" as @wdwmagic once said? No.

He's a politician attuned to the toxic cesspool on Flower St. likely in his last post at the company, hardly what Epcot needs long term.

At the moment I'm just a bit happy that he is petty and political enough to not want someone else playing in his sandbox.

Trust me, Fitzgerald has that job because he is not popular with WDI Management right now and thus is given a thematically dis-jointed park that needs help as a way to marginalize him until he gets forced out the way his Rival Mr. Baxter did.

Fixing Epcot would cost quite a bit, but fortunately the park is setup in such a way that it could be done piecemeal.

That's the thing. Epcot doesn't need some huge makeover with walls everywhere. The foundations are already present for a full, top notch theme park -- it just needs constant and consistent upgrading. It shouldn't take the kinds of large infrastructure improvements that DHS needs.

They just needs to start with fixing the weak pavilions (Energy, Imagination, Innoventions), adding stuff to underused space (WoL, Odyssey), adding some attractions to existing WS pavilions and maybe adding one or two countries along the way. They could do that easily over the course of 5-10 years with a relatively modest annual investment. It just needs some vision by WDI,persistence by the parks guys and some commitment by the people holding the purse strings.

I'm skeptical we'll see the degree of change we all want, but we'll probably get some modest improvements in upcoming years. Hopefully, it will be for the better.

I fear Ratatouille and Coco in World Showcase and who knows what else. The Frozen floodgates are open for nothing but IP.
Coco a film about dia de los muertos a real Mexican holiday and tradition is FAR better a choice than the 3 caballeros are for hosting a ride. At least in one of these verisons you have to actually learn something about a real holiday instead of just looking for Donald. I agree about ratatouille though.

OMG, are there still no spades in the ground at DHS? I've been afraid to look.
Jeez, it's almost MAY! I remember how many people were like, "just wait til January, then the construction will be blazing!" Yeah, not so much.

Well, Cat Can got demolished so they've been busy over at the Studios...

Plus Dias de los Muertos is already represented in the ride's Small World-esque scene and expanding the ride to get into the holiday as a whole would give it focus.
I still don't mind the Caballeros as much compared to some of the other IP that's been shoved in that even with the chasing Donald plot thread, it's still a travelogue through Mexico and that's leagues better then the Frozen Ever After crap.

If Dia de Los Muertos is an interesting attraction concept then why would one want to dilute that intrigue? Nobody would take seriously the idea that Coco needs Buzz and Woody in it to be interesting, but that same idea gets repeated as a God given truth when it comes to themed entertainment.

I'm visiting the World in about a week and when I told my sister(she's an adult) that the Frozen ride won't be open for our trip she was pretty upset. I, on the other hand, was incredibly thankful that I wouldn't have to find out what the actual wait time would be on opening day. I predict about 2 and a half to 3 hours, being modest of course.

I agree but if we are going to be shoved IP down our throats without say or approval the least one can hope for is that it's a ride that actually works with the country in question to educate on culture and tradition. But how wonderful does a Dia de los muertos attraction sound now that I think about it.. Calavera's, La Catrina, Ofrendas... It could be something truly unique and wonderful if only it were 1980.
