really? they already have tron theme wise with test track next door so that doesn't make sense! If they did anything more with tron I suspect it would be added into test track,,,not energy.

I could see the tech used for Marvel or Star Wars also.

BTW, I was looking at aerials and there is space next to the China pavilion that could contain a Mulan attraction without having to change or close the pavilion in any major way. Same also for France and Japan.

Future World will become Star Wars Land part 2. Attractions will include Soarin' Over the Galaxy, Death Star ride through, and the Seas with Jar Jar and Friends.

Oh how I wish. Imagine if they removed the panels and detailed it to scale.

Plans have been formulated for at least a year-18 months now. Management have been voicing concerns the park cannot be propped up by festivals for ever. The dire state of Futureworld has also been particularly noted.

Now how much will be assigned, or actually end up being available is anyone's guess. As is the direction it will take. I know what I've been told has been looked at since 2007. If any of that comes to fruition I don't know yet. The worry is it'll finally become IP land.

Nothing to add but that Future World in particular is being heavily looked at.

To preface: I ask this question simply because I'm curious. I was born in 1992, so I really can't say I remember many details from before a lot of the changes started to happen. I'm sure I at one point rode WoM, Horizons, Journey into Imagination, etc., but I really only know what I've seen in pictures and videos.

Was the general public able to "buy in" to EPCOT in the 80s and 90s? Were they able to relate to the new characters that were created for the park, without having IPs present? Did people enjoy the "edutainment" found in the original attractions?

I absolutely believe that there are some incredible advancements happening in technology, science, medicine, transportation, etc. that the park should absolutely be focused on. I know that I personally would love to see representation from the companies in these fields, but that's because I have an interest in STEM (& STEAM), and I would love a Innoventions/Communicore tour/show-type experience.

But how do you present those things to the common, modern audience? Would the modern audience "buy in" to new characters (such as a Buzzy or Figment) that they have no previous connection to? What types of experiences could be created that ultimately would 1) entertain and amaze, 2) get them off their phones/tablets for enough time to appreciate the full experience and be immersed in the story and 3) get people into the park gates?

Is it that (unfortunately) the modern audience has to have IPs and/or have an interactive experience to be entertained? I certainly don't want to see EPCOT become another fantasyland (and I certainly think that Frozen in Norway is questionable at best), but is it the worst thing to use IPs THAT FIT to help tell the story?

What do you think? I hope I'm not sparking a debate, it's just something I'm genuinely interested in. Thanks!

Obviously you need to take the park characters onto movies and television. The Figment comics are the best things to happen to that character in years and it provides an obvious template for a feature film (ideally animated).

But of course, as we all know, Bob doesn't see that park-original content can be valuable IP too.

Fear?

These are perfect adds for WS. I'd add Mulan to that list also. Maybe a India pavilion featuring The Jungle Book. Endless possibilities.
Endless creatively void possibilities. The timeless attractions at Disney World are largely original concepts, not IP based. Those that are based in IP suffer from many things, but one large issue is the Tomorrowland effect. At times the relevance fades.

Attractions that aren't based on a known intellectual property only get dated by the technology presented in those attractions. Seemingly any new build now a days is going to be based on an IP and that's devastatingly short sighted. Quality and theme should be the only contributing factor to attraction decisions.

This is very much the Iger way of thinking. He basically said that he is only doing IP based additions from now on:
As we spend money at the parks on new attractions that are based on known intellectual property and brands, the likelihood of their success is greater. So when we increase Toy Story’s presence or other Pixar presence, when we put Frozen in the parks, when we grow Star Wars presence, which we will do significantly, when we do it with Princess, for instance, you’re going to see, I think, basically better bets being made that pay off, that are more likely to pay off for us than some of the bets that were made in the past. - Bob Iger, Quarter 3, Fiscal Year 2014 Earnings Call

I hope the IP's are done for now and they go back to a edu-tainment/inspirational "best days are ahead" future-focus.

Things have been dumbed down, out-dated, turned into special event space or abandoned pavilion. What was a full day park has become an overpriced drinking/shopping mall with a few rides.
Don't hold your breath.

Unfortunately I don't get to decide. The people will decide when Frozen opens.

Power to the people.
Yep power to the people the people who will flood guest relations because FPs will be booked. Complaining how their special little one did not get to ride because the lines were to long and it ruined there day. The capacity nightmare is something I really hope blows up in there face.

There is not space next to China, thats the waterway backstage. And then two expansion pads before Germany.

Let's be honest: once Soarin opens up and the horrible frozen ride, EPCOT will be back up to par (by disney standards). And with kids of all ages loving soarin I anticipate those usually 2 hour waits immediately. And with the little girls loving frozen, that will easily be a 2 hour wait as well. They want the bottom line which is money - and well, that will occur.

Yes. With one exception. When the Frost goes online I'm betting the demographic in the queue is going to far more vast than the Little Girls/Parents. From the hype I've been reading I'll venture Little Girls will be the minority standing in the queue for 2 hours.
