If you had the money would you stay one YEAR?

No that was walking to the old Yankee Stadium! :) At the new stadium I would get chills thinking that for the cost of taking my family to see a game I could go to Disney World. :(

Off topic but seriously;

I live in metro Boston, and have been to Fenway many times. I saw Ted Williams when he still playing the first time I went. I know what you mean by getting chills, going into the old Boston garden was the same way. There are very few parks anymore that have that effect. Lambeau Field, and Wrigley Field are the only ones that come to mind.

I know, I was just kidding.

Both of the old places had beams fall down. Old Yankee Stadium and Fenway while they were refurbing.

I just calculated for my GF what it would cost to stay at the world for an entire year and it was roughly something about 120.000 $ for one year assuming you stay at the Polynesian (based on prices we have to pay at our local travel agency) with two premium annual passes and always dining at the parks and resorts without dining plan. I left out any shopping costs however. If you had the money would you do it? An entire year at the world? Of course you could change the resort after a few weeks but as the Poly is one of the most expensice resorts with the exception of the GF this doesn't change the costs for accomodation, at least not increase them.

Sorry but I would find that very boring and hate WDW after a short time. Living in an artificial environment for a year would absolutely kill me. Now living at the beach for a year----I think I could do that.

I don't think so. I think its one of those the idea is better than the reality of it all. Because eventually it would get old and as someone previously said, the magic wouldn't be so magical anymore.

My initial thought (of course as i sit here on a Friday trying to get through work :)) was absolutely no doubt about it, yes!!

Then i realized that you know what......The magic would be gone within the first month for sure. I mean, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Besides, after that year was up and i returned home for a while, where would i start planning my next vacation for?? Finally, i would not want to touch these boards for a long, long time, and i could not do that either.

That's interesting because that would kill me. I don't understand people that tell me they could stay their entire life on some tropical island like the Maledives or some islands in the Carribean. I mean all you can do is swimming, diving, walking or lying at the beach and if you are not alone some "adult entertainment" in the evening at your home. What else can you do at the beach? Living at the beach would become boring after a week to me but with all the things I can do at the World I could spend a month there easily, perhaps even two.

I agree. I could easily spend 30-60 days at WDW and keep trying to find new things to do, etc. But after that long it wouldn't be the special getaway vacation that it is now. Ya know, too much of a good thing & all . . .

Not the whole year, but maybe a month or two. And in the winter time. I live in Fl.( two hours away) and I HATE the summer. Way to HOT.

I thought also at first, heck yes, but wouldn't I get bored! Yes, I think it would ruin the magic. I would probably end up going to the staffing office and putting in an application so I could work there. Now, could I vacation for a year? Ah, just under 30 days until our vacation - heck yes! In reality, no, I'm just too much of a control freak for that. Several months of vacation at WDW & the caribbean with no cell phone - oh yes!

That's a good point, I think. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with Disney. I get completely taken in by the parks, but after a while the manufactured perfection (for lack of a better term) just starts to wear on me. I start wishing for someone to talk like a real human and knock off all the "Gee, isn't this the best place ever?!" jazz.

WDW can be particularly stifling in that way just because of the size, particularly if you're staying on property. I think one of the things I enjoyed most about DL was how you can walk a few feet and exit the "Disney bubble"...that, and the CM's seemed on the whole to be a little less "fake perfect" and a little more laid-back than at WDW.

So...bottom line: If I were to win a year at WDW, I think I'd try to redeem all but a few weeks of it in cash.

Interesting thread!

I had the chance to move to Orlando after Hurricane K and I POUNCED on it! It was like having all of my dreams come true! (one difference between moving there and staying in a hotel is the hotel is MUCH more expensive!)

I ended up staying basically for 2 years (although I visited my parents for Christmas, Mardi Gras, and a few other times), and in that time never ONCE got tired of the parks! This is because I am a theme park junkie and even when New Orleans had a Six Flags park, I went over and over again and never got tired of it, and that was just one park!

What makes the Orlando market so AWESOME is that everytime you go to a park, you can go to a different park. I currently hold active passes for WDW (which includes Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom), and also have a Platinum Pass that gets me into Busch Gardens and Sea World. When Cypress Gardens was still open, I had an AP there as well, because they had a wooden roller-coaster and those are my favorite types as far as thrills go.

So at my peak, I had 7 parks to pick from everytime I went to a park, plus their respective water parks. Even as a resident, I've never had a Uni pass and never felt any regrets about not having one! :) But if one wanted to, those 2 parks could be added as well, and then you have NINE parks to pick from plus water parks!

When Theme Parks are your biggest PASSION in life, this NEVER gets old! Especially if you're also a hardcore DISNEY fan and four of the parks are DISNEY parks! :)

So, if I never got tired or bored with the parks, why did I stop living there "full-time"? Eventually, I realized I was hardly going in the parks at all during the summer - it was just too hot as Hades to enjoy it to the fullest! And as New Orleans began to recover, I began to miss it, and miss my family and friends.

I was really torn in two about which city to pick, so I decided to go for the best of both worlds and now spend a half year in each! Naturally, I opted to go with Orlando for the cooler months, which puts me there for my favorite events - Christmas season (although I always vist my parents for Christmas day itself, as well as the lead-up to it), New Year's Eve, the extended hours of Spring Break/Easter season, and the Flower and Garden Festival. I do always take a break and return to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, as well!

I find the 6 months on, then 6 months off works perfectly for me. Everytime I go back to WDW, it feels fresh and new again. And everytime I'm about to leave for the year, I still feel that same bittersweet melancholia I would feel as if it was the last day of a trip. Standing on the upper deck of the ferry watching the Castle, Main Street lights, and Space Mountain slowly fade away in the distance... never 100 percent sure that I'll be back in the same extended capacity (because I take it one year at a time).

Usually in the summer, I don't think much about WDW and focus more on other intesests - like my DVD collection and anything else that can be enjoyed in a perfect 68 degree (20 Celcius) air-conditioned environment!

However, this summer I took a weekend trip to see my beloved Main Street Electrical Parade for the first time in 20 years, and have been on a cloud ever since! I can't stop thinking about WDW, and that's why I read this board more than usual this summer, and started to post a lot more (even though I've been a member since 2007)

I think my maximum stay would be two weeks. I'm afraid I would lose my complete and total excitement I get each time we go if I were to stay there a year. :)

I would if I could. I don't think I would get bored though. Of course I would have an annual pass, but I wouldn't go to the parks everyday. There is so much to do and see down there you could probably do something different everyday without repeating it. Although if it did wear out atleast maybe I would come down off of my disney high, lol.

I would if I could too! I would just make every day different than the others by doing different things and going different places, Tours, Shows etc etc...

I could do it for a year. The tours, the rides, the shows, the restaurants, pools, hot tubs, golfing (which I'd learn) archery, horse back riding, movie theater on property. There are enough restaurants on property that you could eat a different entree every night and not eat the same dish twice. Getting fastpasses- that I presumably don't need- and giving them to people randomly. Buying random people dinner, or snacks. It would be my own personal year of a million dreams

My parents have lived 3 miles from the MK Cast Member parking lot for just a shade under a yr. (Dad is a CM, Mom has AP) They go to Earl of Sandwich every Sunday AM for breakfast. Pop into MK for a Dole Whip or have a Casey's hotdog for dinner. Stop by EPCOT to walk around WS to get some excercise. Point being when you live near The World, you don't see WDW the way you would if you were just on vacation for a limited amount of time. So far they have NOT tired of Disney in any manner!:D

That's a VERY good point, and something I forgot to mention in my lengthy post above. I find the longer I stay, the MORE appreciation I develop for WDW, not less! I appreciate the little design details that many might not notice when on vacation because of the limited amout of time.

For me, it's a bond that grows stronger with the passing of time. I could NEVER grow tired of Paradise! :)
