So, this may be a silly question...but do you have to make reservations for the shows / dining? Is there such a thing as an "ADR" on the boat?

I have a question!
It's just my boyfriend and I this cruise... I know chances are we'll get stuck with another couple at dinner... Is there a way I can request private tables for our dinners?

I actually would like to know this answer too, as it's just me and the kid on the cruise in August and I'd hate to get stuck with someone who doesn't appreciate my hair and mustache!

(ok...not my hair and mustache, but I really don't want to eat with someone else at the table)...

All main dining room dinners you already have your seats assigned. Shows are open seating. They usually open the theater doors half an hour before the show. We try to always arrive as early as possible. The only dining you need reservations for are the upcharge adult-only fine dining meals at Palo and Remy. Even if they look totally booked online before the cruise I hear they hold 1/2 their tables for booking onboard.

Yes. You can have a note put on your reservation that you request a table alone. It's a request, not guaranteed. Also, when you board the ship there will be a note in the Navigator (they'll give it to you in the terminal) as to where to go to do dining changes. Go there and ask if they can tell if you have been assigned alone. If not, request it. They might be able to make that change there. If you're 2nd seating your chances might be better because 1st seating tends to be more popular.

Palo and Remy are adult only?

Should I check the kid into the kids club if I want to try them? She's accustomed to finer dining, and well behaved (she loved Jikos, and Le Cellier is one of the highlights of her trips with me, for example)...

Unfortunately, yes, both are 18+. Not sure how old your kiddo is but if you have to check them in/out then that's up to you. Ya know? Again, not sure of the age but he/she is still welcome to go to dinner in the main dining room even without you. The servers will look after him/her. He/she would need to be okay with it, tho. Our May cruise last year we sat next to a table of like 3 families. One night their collective 6 or 7 children, all appeared to be ages 7 & under, were brought to their table by 1 adult from the group then the adult left. The kids did pretty good for a short time but eventually gave way to running around and climbing on the table. When they finished another of the adults appeared & escorted them out. Presumably the adults were all enjoying an adult meal and were likely checked into their respective kids clubs after dinner. If you opted to do that just explain to your wait staff in the main dining room and at Palo or Remy the situation and they'll work with you. No problem. It does stink that rambunctious kids prevent well-mannered ones from partaking of the fine dining. Especially with Remy which can last over 3 hours its probably for the best. My oldest will be 18 next March and one thing he's really looking forward to is being able to eat at the fine dining restaurants. I suppose it gives the kids something to look forward to. When they turn 18 they can no longer go to the teen club so it helps to have things for them to look towards for the transition.

She's 8, soon to be 9. And she adores finer dining. We play it up when we go to places like that, getting her a wine glass filled with soda so we can toast the meal and pretending (in her terms) that we are "sophisticated"...which, if you knew either of us, we are not.

I'm not sure I would feel comfortable leaving her alone for a meal, even if I really wanted to try the finer dining. Not because I'm concerned about how she would behave, but because I wouldn't want to leave her alone for such a selfish endeavor.

So, if it's 18 plus, then I guess I'll be skipping those meals on the boat. Unless I can book an off time meal and check her in to the kids club (whatever it's called)...I suspect she is going to want to spend lots of time there while on board.

I understand completely. I was quite the sight in Remy last September. Talk about a square peg in a round hole! Yikes!

You could book a brunch! What ship/itinerary are you sailing? I'm sure you told me but its late/early. As long as you aren't on a 3-night there will be a brunch if not more than one. Both Palo & Remy offer a brunch. They aren't the same as dinner but they are very nice and the food is incredible. I can vouch for Palo brunch. Done it twice. I'd rather do brunch every day than main dining room dinners (which are also very good). I think your daughter will love the main dining room dinners. They're pretty involved, multi-course, etc. I can totally see y'all having your fancy glass drinks and toasting there. Perfect setting for it. It's nice and feels very posh but also has a lot of whimsy infused. Dress up or formal night (depending on your itinerary) could also be a fancy-pants opportunity for you to share. It's what you make it, really. ;)

We are sailing on the 7 day cruise on the Fantasy departing from Port Canaveral on the 3rd of August. Same itinerary as the OP of this thread @heatherkatheleen (Cozumel, Costa Maya, Grand Cayman, Castaway)...

Not really sure what to do on it. I've been investigating Port Excursions lately...but it's a first cruise for both of us, so I don't want to plan it all out too strictly.

I'll be on that itinerary so yay!

Take it slow. There will be plenty of time. Maybe pick 1 or 2 things to try out. You can book stuff while on the cruise and, like I said, they'll have availability for the fine dining. Just go to the designated spot for dining adjustments on embarkation day. The brunches are served on at-sea days typically. I had a brunch prior to an afternoon port call last year. Just look after you do your online check-in. If it says not available go on embarkation day to book. The brunch at Palo runs $20 and includes 1 mimosa or similar. It's served more like a combination of a buffet & menu service combined. The food is incredible. Remy brunch is $50. Not sure of how its served. I think its more of a multi-course menu service deal. There are sample menus online for both so maybe that will help you decide if you're interested. I'm sure your daughter will have a ball without you in the club when organized activities are going on. I wish I could hang out in those clubs. They're really mind-blowing!

I know! I've been looking at the club she'll be eligible for, and I suspect she may wish to spend more time there than with me! And, I don't blame her!

I will look into the brunch. Thanks for the suggestion. I really don't care if I eat there or not, but as an amateur foodie, I like trying "finer dining" and seeing what it offers.

Any suggestions for Port Adventures (not trying to hijack the thread, but since I have your attention...<grin>)
