Iconic Purple Directional Signs Being Replaced

I guess it could be said that I liked the different color road signs but did find them harder to read in a moving vehicle than the blue/yellow/white ones. I suppose it does take away from the magic but they have made enough other changes that defeated the magic that many like myself have made the decision not to return so the color of the signs are no longer relevant. To me it is a minor detail that most people who decide to immerse don't really get to see much anyway. Maybe on the way in and again on the way out, otherwise it doesn't really affect them at all.

I also wonder if Disney maybe might have been told by the State that since those roads are the equivalent of any other highway in the state that they needed to conform to the accepted safer road sign colors. Either way, it really is no longer that important when it comes to image or concern of the guests.
You would think that since they got rid of DME and many will choose to rent a car, that they'd want their signage to still be discernable from the state signage at a glance...the purple accomplished that. They could still accomplish that with something more subtle that would conform to any state requirements if they chose.

I saw the new signage in person yesterday and I don’t mind it! Then again, I was one who wanted them to change the color scheme on the signage after they repainted the entrance signs. If they would have gone with green signs, I probably wouldn’t be a fan but the blue signs work for me. I am curious to see what they are going to do with the smaller signs.

I don't DISLIKE the new color scheme, but... what was wrong with the original purple and red color scheme? Why repaint 'em? Hasn't Disney ever heard of the phrase "leave well enough alone"?

It kind of reminds me of when they redesigned the McDonald's on property. It used to look colorful and fun, and now it's just drab and generic. How is that an improvement?

I agree plus the money spent could have been used to get more call center employees among other things.

The new colors don't bother me, but somehow that new scheme take ways a bit of the magic for me. I guess because no where else that I can think of could you see signage like this and it made me happy. I wonder why they would spend millions of dollars on this when I can think of so many other maintenance items that are more important, i.e. a working Yeti.

I think that's the key. They're just road signs but the on the old ones they took time to make them cool, different, and spent time to make the readable and made it a resort-wide theme all in hopes of making the experience that much better.

The new ones seem like someone told the sign department: We gotta replace the signs... Here's the basic color scheme.

While once pointed out you can see that it kind of matches the 50th color scheme (which seems like a dumb color scheme to match on as, presumably, the 50th color scheme will be gone with the 50th), it doesn't strike me as a particularly good match to the 50th color scheme.

They could have spend more time on it. They could have done something cool. They color scheme of the signs isn't going to change receipts so it really doesn't matter to them.

If someone can enter the property from any entrance while driving and not be aware of where they are I really want them to pull over, get out from behind the wheel and let someone else drive. I have been going to WDW for 39 years. The purple signs were different and definitely screamed Disney but it was sometimes confusing because I think they were more show than instructive. I liked them and still think that the change is a good idea. To me the colors made them confusing and not really taken seriously. Besides the local police actually police the roads and it seems like driving should be taken seriously and not theme parkish.

I have driven across this country coast to coast and I see green signs all over the place. I have never looked up and seen a blue street sign. Maybe they exist somewhere but I have never seen them. To me this is still different and easier to read than the purple background. And as far as I am concerned anything that will make it easier for the goofballs driving in the left lane to realize that they are in the wrong lane BEFORE the exit they need is welcome. I am rather tired of seeing someone yank their wheel across all lanes of traffic to take an exit they just suddenly realized was upon them. God forbid they drive to the next exit and come back to the one they missed.

I swear, answering "what should you do if you miss your exit" should be a part of every license renewal. A few weeks ago I watched someone cut across three lanes of highway traffic (at over 65mph) and then attempt to back up to get to the off-ramp they missed. If I were in charge, that would be an instant license revocation...they're lucky they didn't cause an accident.

You are right it is 42.47 mi² Actually after some recent purchases they are rounding it to 43 sq miles now.

Again, I dont know if people are joking, because map doesn't lie or if they are not counting all the land subtracting out the roads WDW owns or not sure what's going on in their mind. So I guess whatever? As the dates get newer the land amount gets greater, but I assure you WDW is aprox 42 Sq miles and nearly twice as large as Manhattan(22 sq mi) and very near the size of San Francisco(46.9 Sq mi). Disney self imposed at least a 1/3 of that never be built on as Nature land, but its still part of the WDW owned resort.

Some say it is closer to 47 sq miles, so it fluctuates, but 39 sq miles is the minimum I could find for one year :

Well, I learned something today. Guess I can go home now. Welp. I'm already here . WFH stinks sometimes :)

That was happening all over the place this morning on my way into work. I-65 South across the Ohio River in Louisville was at a standstill because someone was WALKING across the HIGHWAY and got killed. I saw what was going on with my GPS that I use every day for traffic concerns on my 40 minute trek to work and I was already in the correct lane going across the Kennedy bridge to take I-64W to work but there were geniuses flying out of the far left lanes (I-65S) and darting across the bridge almost 90 degrees to the lanes to get in the lane I was in. Insanity.

We refer to them as Last Minute A-holes in our family. We're in MA...and I'm glad I drive a full-size and very tall pickup.

I'm only irked.

Irked - no action necessary
Perturbed - perhaps a complaint email
Angered - definitely a complaint email and a call
BEYOND - calling for heads to roll

Thank you for the clarification. I was afraid you were slipping into being Perturbed. I am sure this makes a lot
of people much more relaxed. :D

That looked so dated, like so 90's. Why didn't they repaint that like 20 years ago? Like OMG...

Funny how there was no outcry about the colors on the entry arches being "outdated" when they repainted them. 🤔

For me personally, I assumed the entrance way being painted was just for the 50th anniversary.
The signs feel a more permanent change.

Something looked familiar to me when I saw the new signs. Then, it hit me. It's almost the same color scheme and font that you see on the German Autobahn network, minus the white border:

If we see the word "Ausfahrt" or an Umlaut slip through on any of the new signs, then we'll know Chapek bought them as cheap surplus from Germany.

Or maybe the Germans have succeeded in their secret plot to take over Walt Disney World. Where's John McClane when you need him?

You'll love the maneuver I would sometimes see in the Philadelphia area, then. After turning onto the wrong exit, some idiots actually stop and attempt to back up on the exit lane to get back on the interstate. I even once encountered someone who was honking rather angrily because the those of us behind him wouldn't get out his way as he tried to drive in reverse.
