I wonder what Beast's castle is going to be like?

I've just finished watching Beauty and the Beast (3rd time since renting it), and I got to wondering what the "Be Our Guest" castle at WDW will look like when finally built. I saw the some of the concept art at D23, (the ballroom was especially stunning)...but I'm wondering if any part of the castle will have the dark and creepy quality it did in the film prior to the Beast's redemption. I hope so. My favorite parts of the film are the ones in the castle, with the gloom and the gargoyles, the flickering candlelight and the Beast prowling about. *sigh* I suppose the finished castle will be all bright and sunny, but I'd rather it have that spooky medieval quality it had in the beginning of the film. At the very least, that would keep it from seeming like just a clone of the Cinderella Castle.

I completely agree with you. Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorite Disney films, I just bought it on Blu-Ray. I wonder to what extent the castle will be built? What parts will we be able to walk through? The idea of a "gloomy and mysterious" castle would most definitely separate it from Cindy's!

I'm just interrested on how they plan to utilize forced perspective in the design and contruction of Beast's castle in relation to Cinderella's. Obviously they have no intention for Beast's to over shadow Cindy's however they can't have it coming off looking puny either. It's a very interresting aestethic and architechtual challenge.

PS...Another Nasvillian here!

It is strictly forced perspective from the outside and will be nothing like Cindy's castle in architectural form. I'm suprised we are this far along and so many people don't realize that. Or trolling perhaps.

BTW, it will be situated so that if you are looking at the BatB pavilion you can't be looking at Cindy's so I think the forced perspective will work fine.

I assume the castle will look similar to this as far as size relative to facility/ This is Cinderella's Castle on the Casey Jr. Circus train. It is forced perspective as well.

I bet it ends up being similar, obviously a larger scale. That building it is going onto is HUGE.

I read somewhere on these boards that the castle form will be actually behind the BntB building to enhance the perspective and allow it to be independently structured.

I have to ask ... what is "trolling" ... I'm very new around here and not at all knowledgeable when it comes to the terminology around here :o

Trolling is the action of intentionally making a viewpoint that is opposing the popular viewpoint or intentionally making stupid or inflammatory remarks to create an inflammatory response from others.

Example would be if I come onto a Disney fan site and say "Disney stinks, now Universal knows how to build a park. I don't know wy anyone wastes their money at Disney."

This is my understanding of the "Be Our Guest" restaurant:

You will enter over a drawbridge structure (like in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland) to the entrance foyer which is built into the side of a mountain. To the left of the drawbridge is Maurice and Belle's cottage where you can meet Belle, and to the left is the village, home of Gaston's Tavern. Above and behind the mountain is Beast's Castle, as if off in the distance, similar to the way the Eiffel Tower is presented in Epcot's France pavilion. As the Eiffel Tower is visible throughout World Showcase, Beast's castle will be in Fantasyland. It will be very difficult to find a sightline where you can compare it with Cinderella Castle without it appearing to be just further off in the distance.

Through the entrance/foyer you'll enter the Ballroom and the main seating area. Smaller dining areas are to the left and right. The kitchen is on the left, bathrooms on the right. The ballroom will look like the one in the film, with a large curved window area in the rear. The trick will be to keep the window area from allowing a view of the backstage area. Right below will be the road used by the buses bring Cast Members from parking to the Utilidor, as well as delivery trucks. This should be below grade level so keeping sightline up could do the trick. Directly behind this is a new pond and some of the old trees that separate this area from the railroad tracks, so it may not be as difficult as I think.

Understandably, the restaurant dining rooms are within the mountain, similar to LeCellier in Epcot. The illusion will be you are dining in the castle in the distance.

Currently (10/13) steel work is rising in the Kitchen section, with excavation and foundation work for the main ballroom progressing. As mentioned, this is going to be a very large building.

Maybe I'm issing something but he's pointing out how it will be challenging to create a magnificent, huge castle but make it so that it isn't more magnificent and huge than Cinderella Castle. What do you do, make t somewhat smaller? How much saller, it is a castle after all Make it less ornate and more plain? How plain? hey are building a new castle and you don't want to make it look cheap. So ho do youe make a magnificent, huge structure that makes people say "Wow, very cool!" but not "Oh, look at Cinderella Castle how charmi...WAIT, what IS THAT?!?!!?! NOW, THAT'S A CASTLE!!!!!!!!!"

I wonder if the window will be an actual window--I always thought it would be a window into a projected image or diorama, so that they could utilize bold fantasy colors and landscapes "outside" of it. I thought the environment would be completely enclosed a la Mexico pavilion.

In any event, thanks--assuming you're correct, and it sounds good to me, that's the best description of the entire area/experience that I've read. Hopefully you've got good info!

More than likely the same. Put it against a sky with no trees in sight and it will look larger.

Sorta like this?

Will the Beauty & the Beast portion of FL be entirely devoted to this new restaurant or will there be other elements as well? Obviously a Belle, Beast, et al meet and greet area is a gimme, but anything more substantial? It's far and away my favorite Disney film and I'm hoping it gets lots of love.
