I wish Disney would buy a space shuttle

When the Space Shuttle program comes to an end this year and the three orbiters are retired, NASA will put two of them (Endeavor and Atlantis) up for sale for about $29 million. Discovery has already been promised to the Smithsonian. If I understand the terms correctly, the other two will be offered for sale to museums and/or educational institutions. However, I would love it if Disney would buy one of them and put it on display somewhere in Epcot! Oh well, a guy can dream I guess. :)

It's not out of the question. Disney did partner with McDonald's to buy a dinosaur skeleton. They donated the original to the Field Museum in Chicago for study, but got authentic replicas to use in and around Dinosaur at AK.

I could see it happening if they got the right corporate partner. It would be an amazing draw, it would fit the EPCOT theme perfectly, and it would lend some serious credibility. It would also be great to see what Disney would do with such a piece. I do think it would have been more likely a few years ago while M:S was being developed, but a revamp for something this special isn't out of the question.

I think it would be a great add-on to Mission: Space. Have a new area set up where guests could enter and tour the Space Shuttle to see how it ran as well as create photo ops. I'm sure there's some kind of empty plot of land next to M:S that would work... (Besides Wonders of Life).

You remember the wand, same idea, and paint SSE with a moon scape. Think of all those Photpopass upsell shots. Cha ching.

Brilliant.

It would anger me if they bought a shuttle. Complete waste of money. They could build a mock up one for much cheaper.
To say nothing of having "tours"... If I recall correctly, a shuttle would be very awkward to tour crowds of people through.
